Fangirl Land

@darlingimafangirl

| 21 | Virgo | Pan | She/her | I'm sorry mom, I'm definitely not what you wanted in a kid.

Javi (symbolic of innocence) was the first to be killed on purpose. Laura Lee (symbolic of religion) was the first to die outside of the crash. Jackie (symbolic of societal norms) was the first to be cannibalized. The themes are theming and the motifs are motifing tonight girls!

Honestly my one of my favorite things about Yellowjackets is that it’s like the “high-school-stereotype turns out to be more than that” trope, but turned up to such a grotesque and horrifying degree. Like-

“Turns out the popular girl has her own weaknesses/insecurities!” Yeah and she literally freaking dies for them.

“Wow! The rebellious punk girl we were all afraid of is actually really nice!” So let’s turn her into this borderline divine figure, entrust her with our lives and follow her deep into the wilderness as she’s the last one to hold onto a sliver of humanity and not turn into some primal, depraved animal.

“Oh! So the weird childish kid is actually capable of things!” Mm hmm, capable of MURDER. Capable of holding the cards of life and death itself in her little hands and becoming so needed yet so feared.

“That strange quiet kid finally finds her voice!” AND STARTS A CULT.

I could keep going but just- Y’all that retro 90’s energy of exploring the high school trope coupled with the utter gruesome obscenity that is their situation… It so does it for me. Everyone’s become so suffocated in their little boxes that the only way to break out is in a dramatic frenzy where they start killing each other. Glorious.

I really enjoy how the surviving adults have, more or less consciously, surrounded themselves with the Wilderness.

Taissa “I really just want to focus on our collective future” Turner needs to look behind her

Travis basically still lived in the cabin

Shauna has a painting which looks exactly like where they were stranded (in her dining room…)

Van still lives in the attic

Lottie is something else entirely, living in wooden trailers next to mountains and a lake, surrounded by the symbol

+ Misty doesn’t surround herself with reminders of the Wilderness itself, but she has a picture of the team next to her front door, which fits her perfectly

sometimes I just think about Jackie. Jackie, who would be horrified that the girls ate her, horrified that Shauna would say it's what she would've wanted. Jackie, who would hate that her necklace was being used as some sort of symbol, hate that people were murdered and hunted while wearing it, when all she wanted was for it to keep people safe. Jackie, the girl who was unknowingly the biggest thing standing between complete disarray and civility. she died not knowing how important she was, not knowing how much her death would change the lives of these girls. she died in the snow, betrayed and thinking that her friends hated her.

Travis really gonna eat his own brother huh

I will never have anything bad to say about him ever in my life. No wonder he killed himself. Fuck. And he's never not gonna hate himself. Because he told him to go after her. To save the girl he loved. And Javi, non-verbal Javi, knew his brother so much, knew his heart, they didn't even have to speak to communicate that. All it took is a look from Travis and a nod from Javi to decide that they have to save Nat. And now his love for Nat is tainted. Everytime he remembers he loves her, he remembers he sacrificed his brother for her. Of course they were toxic for each other, of course they were on again off again, they both carry the same guilt. Javi died for them to have this, how could they throw it away, how could they keep it

Lot wants to die for them so hard and they said no you don’t get to. Lottie says I belong to all of you let me die. They say yeah you belong to all of us and we say you’re not allowed to. They said get back on your shrine we have more worship to do.

@teabookgremlin GIRL WHO WANTS TO BE A MARTYR THAT THEYRE MAKING A GOD

i think yellowjackets is fun because the two timelines allows the show to recontextualize itself constantly. like how adult misty’s devotion to adult natalie in s1 feels a bit misplaced especially considering adult nat acts like she can’t stand misty. misplaced, until you see teen misty save teen natalie from death in 2x08. until you see misty’s face the moment it became clear it wasn’t going to be nat, but javi. until you see that the wilderness didn’t choose in the middle of that lake. misty did. she always picks the choice that will save natalie in s1 because she chose natalie in 2x08 and paid the price of a life for it. and i just think that’s neat.

“I had the chance to visit [Halle] in London a few times and I can’t wait to see the film tonight and just give her the biggest hug and congratulations because I know that she has done an amazing job of capturing the heart and essence of who Ariel is in such a beautiful way.” - Jodi Benson (aka the original Ariel) on Halle Bailey’s perfomance in the The Little Mermaid live-action

it’s the way every yellowjacket has reacted with the exact same incredulousness to lottie being out of the institution which is making me think abt the intensity of them finding out she’d been institutionalized in the first place . what do you do when you make a prophet of a girl and then return to civilization and find that civilization has deemed her clinically insane. what do you do if you believed her and did everything she did but no one deemed you clinically insane. what do you do if you find out she’s not there anymore. she’s in the wider world again and people trust her and rely on her and you want to trust her again , so badly. what do you do if immediately on returning from the wilderness, it is recontexualized as madness and you lock onto that, and it changes how you look at everything you did, and if she’s back what does that mean about how you understood your own actions, your own belief in her, your own love of her, your own fear of how you love and fear and want to love and want to fear her

furthermore !!!! It’s the way they all know her exact diagnosis too. who told them. Did Lottie’s parents let her friends know she was being sent to the mental hospital. Was Lottie communicating with the other yellowjackets before she was sent away even though she wasn’t physically speaking to anyone else. did Lottie just vanish one day and they went to her house only for her maid to tell them she was gone. did Lottie’s parents tell the yellowjackets about her diagnosis . what was the tone of the conversation. was it anger or grief or disgust or sadness. what do Lottie’s parents think of the girls who made their daughter a prophet. do they know they did that. do they resent that the other girls came back quote unquote normal. what’s it like when they all return to wiskayok. sitting up late at night in their beds at their parents’ houses all alone remembering how they used to sleep in a big pile together on the floor clinging to the warmth of their friends. if you can call them friends. more and less than that all at once. do they hang out before they all start to drift away into the next phase of their lives. do they meet in the woods to sit and talk and drink and dance and scream and cry and fight. does lottie come to meet them until one day she’s just gone. and then one by one they all stop coming too. what’s holding them together if their girl god is gone across the ocean and they’re saying she was mad the whole time. what then!!!! what then!!!!!!!

misty doing chest compressions to crystals unresponsive corpse to the tune of staying alive. misty coming out as a moon landing scepticist. misty outraged at the audacity of cheating at two truths and a lie. "I want to join ur cult please👉👈 🥺" misty being annoyed at her friend that she isnt unwillingly being held captive. which is a v normal and healthy response to that situation. "lottie is just jealous of what nat and I have" misty being accused of being adams murderer and on top of that alluded to being called a serial killer and reacting to it in a way akin to a child having a tantrum. misty i loooove you don't ever change

mari praying to the wilderness that "shauna doesnt die" and travis starting the blood ritual with the animal skull and lottie's "the wilderness recognizes your sacrifice" and everyone was excited for this baby but subconsciously i think they would all choose shauna over the baby. shauna doesnt eat and the baby eats and shauna lives and the baby dies (jackie drinks the cocoa and dies, lottie doesn't eat at the food court and lives) (jackie whispers shauna's name and she lives, shauna welcomed her back into the warm warm cabin and jackie died), shauna "it's you and me kid against the whole world" while feeding her baby and so he never lives at all. a blood sacrifice was made so that one of them can live. in any other show, it would be the damn baby. any other show, shauna would die and the baby would live and shauna would never be remembered as anything other than his dead mother. the baby eats and he dies. they make a blood sacrifice and shauna wakes up. jackie whispers shauna's name and shauna lives.
