So just how many LGBTQIA+ people are in The Magnus Archives?
After listening to The Magnus Archives I had a thought to go through and make note of how many times LGBTQIA+ identities are brought up. And it turns out, a lot more than I first remembered! First things first, this list isn’t every single episode with LGBTQIA+ characters (though I will make note of that at the end.) This list is a note of when each character’s identity becomes obvious, which isn’t always when the character is first introduced. With that, here’s a breakdown of what I found. First off are the characters that are obvious. The people where gendered words are used for their partners, or they have their identities laid out in a clear, exact way: ep 3 Graham ep 7 Wilfred Owen (not stated in canon, but he’s a historical figure with a known sexuality) ep 11 Antonio (fake name) + ex if it's a different Graham from ep 3 ep 38 Andre and husband David. ep 49 Tim and his guy who works with the police. ep 63 Erin and her wife ep 89 Jude Perry and Gretchen ep 106 Martin and Jon. (sexuality of both discussed second hand but Martin was alluded to earlier) ep 110 Alexia ep 126 Debra and Rosa (Debra doesn’t use the words wife or partner, but they share a house, finances, and a son) ep 150 Herman and Alberto ep 157 Georgie and Melanie Next off are the statement givers that have the pronouns they/them used for them at some point in the episode description or statement. This is a separate category because more often than not, the pronouns switch to he/him or she/her by the end. And while many non-binary people use multiple pronoun sets, there’s enough wiggle room in the interpretation that the representation isn’t as strong as it could be: ep 57 Carter. they/them in the description, he/him in the episode ep 148 Sunil. they/them in the episode description and beginning of episode. he/him at the end. ep 149 Judith. they/them in the episode description, none in the episode at all ep 155 Tova. they/them in the episode description and beginning of episode. she/her at the end. Then we have the most nebulous list, which is where I’m most likely to have missed some. These people have stated romantic partners, but give no gender indication at all. Or a gender is given, but the particular language or circumstance makes it unclear if the relationship was romantic or not: ep 8 Ivo has a fiance named Sam, no gender given ep 78 no gender or name given for Adam's spouse, or Lawrence's ex. ep 90 Matt had an unnamed male partner but it's unclear if it was romantic or business. ep 95 Antonio holds Luca's hand and kisses him on the forehead. But they're Italians in the 1940s ep 114 no gender or name given for Anya's ex. ep 136 Neil had a partner named Gabe. No indication on if it was romantic or business/creative ep 146 no gender or name given for Marcus's ex ep 153 no genders or names given for any of Barbara's exes And finally, Daisy and Basira just Vibe Queer the entire time they’re speaking. There’s not really any specific evidence I could point to, but I can hear it. I said at the top I would make a note about what this means for how many episodes have LGBTQIA+ characters. And the answer is all of them! In 160 episodes, only episode 112 doesn’t have anybody from the obvious evidence list in a speaking role. But the two people who do speak are Basira and Daisy, and Jon, Martin, Tim, and Melanie are the subject of conversation in a significant way. So there’s my complete breakdown of every LGBTQIA+ character in seasons 1-4 of The Magnus Archives. Statement ends.

The sooner you realise that you can do literally whatever you want as regards to your gender presentation (or lack thereof) and just take whatever bits and pieces you like from wherever, the sooner you can start enjoying life.
In season 5 Martin becomes an avatar of the web, only instead of getting cool powers he just turns into a spider. The "tragedy" part is that every time Jon goes to a social event, he has to take a tarantula wearing little glasses & a bowtie out of his pocket and introduce it as his husband

Yes! I think the first Harry Potter film had a strong aesthetic and sense of how Wizards and their world looked and felt. The fashion we saw in Diagon Alley and at the first sorting was good weird shit but by the end of the series everyone basically wore jeans and a pullover at all times. Even Luna looked like she shopped at American Eagle. Where were the weird robes? Their pointy hats? The absolutely wild hair accessories and jewelry and charms people would have, especially twelve year old girls. Adult wizard fashion disasters? The weird stuff that would immediately separate kids raised by muggles because the wizarding world dresses so old fashioned and strange. I think the movies really just lost any strong aesthetic. The first movie feels so magical and strange in such a good way and the rest just dont.
I’m working on a project about how Tumblr is being affected by the porn ban and the recent staff decisions regarding what they define as “sexually explicit content”. I also am looking for voices surrounding how we as a community feel about Tumblr as a platform.
