r/rwbycritics is a fuckin mess... It full of the exact kind of people who lack critical thinking and try to substitute critical thinking for just... ignoring things they don't like.
Like this, for example
While simultaneously ignoring that:
- Ironwood enjoyed sending MASSIVE AMOUNTS of military forces to neighboring kingdoms as a show of strength, regardless if it was for an official event or for regular travel.
- He planned on sending a massive raid team to southeast Vale to suppress criminal dealings, which could have ruined their chances of finding out what they're up against if Ozpin hadn't informed him to send scouts first instead of shooting first and asking questions never.
- Introduced the Atleasian Knight 2000s & Paladins to Vale's public. Again, as a show of strength.
- Ironwood literally had his top scientist build a robot girl simply to be a living weapon. His "compassion" for said robot girl was questionable, as he never allowed her to do anything or interact with anyone. When it was discovered Penny was interacting with Ruby, she was told to pretend to not know anything about her. She was treated as an object. Quite literally a weapon "pointed at an enemy so someone else can claim a victory".
- The "encouragement" to continue education at Atlas is literally him asking her to join the Military. As we've seen, he also can choose to draft students, like he did with Flynnt Coal and Neon Katt.
- He threatened Jacques Schnee to "stay on his good side" when atlas is under his control. Regardless of opinion on the abusive asshole that is Jacques, threatening a powerful and rich man with military strength to keep him in line is a sign of a budding dictator.
- He placed an embargo on Atlas & Mantle because he was paranoid that the enemy would attack Atlas next. He spent that year upping his military strength for Atlas and leaving Mantle to die without proper protection or defenses. Literally the only good protection they really had was Penny.
- When Team RWBY arrived in Atlas, they found out he had Mantle in a firm grip. The forces were deployed all around Atlas' borders, and monitors played on loop that citizens must comply or pay the price.
- Kept informing Oscar that he and Ozpin will merge soon. Implying he doesn't care for Oscar, he only sees him as Oz's vessel.
- He groomed Winter's entire career so that he can give her a power that wasn't chosen for her in the first place. When Atlas went to shit, he ordered her to claim the Maiden power, which involved Fria unconsentingly being placed in a pod and have her soul transferred to Winter.
- Shot a child.
Pretty sure there's more I can list. Of course, i don't expect Reddit to understand what critical thinking is. Just because someone has a few good traits doesn't nullify or retcon the bad ones. An apple that is 1/3rd healthy is still bruised the other 2/3rds.
