Inconsistency Is Key

@darkfire1177

Jay | 22 | she/her This blogs just a hot mess of my current hyperfixations, cute animals, and occasionally my art. Reblogs and comments are appreciated, ask box is always open love to get questions about my OCs!

hey! seeing that post you rb'd about wanting folks to ask you about your ocs, i wanted to ask if you had an oc world or particular story built up currently! :0 or just tell me anything about them, i'm curious

Oh boy! It's been almost 2 weeks I've been sitting on this, lotta digging through files, editing and re-reading, and silly little crayon head shots. This is going to be really long, lots of words, images, and links. I'm very excited so I can't really apologize. So without further ado let's get into it and hope that I format this half decent. As with Tumblr, please click images for better quality

Adding to the pinned post because! Were live! Side blogs are here finally

@darkfire-draws for general art and headcanons (will mostly be splatoon)

@adl-adayinthelife for my original characters

@my-weird-octarian-roommate for my spaltoon series

A new mode of production arises out of the newly networked masses.

Because shockingly when people enjoy what they do (you make it enjoyable instead of just hammering on them) people WANT to do things!

The gambling motifs in New Vegas relating to the central conflict can be subtle, but sometimes a man called House lives in a giant roulette spinner shaped casino in Vegas and says that he dealt himself a strong hand.

Will you ever make a fuzzy version of the octoling model? I understand if not it’s probably hard to make all that hair lol but it would look awesome I think ^_^

Avatar

Since you asked, here's a quick fuzzy octo using the newer version of the model! Went for a different mood/interpretation compared to the other one.

Not too long ago I was asked if I could make a fuzzy octo with the older model, so here's that one if you're interested!

Hello! I'm going to teach you how to get whatever cursor you want.

First, figure out what you want as a cursor. I'm going to be changing mine to a Skyrim mouse.

So first you get a picture of whatever you want, as clean as possible:

Open your favorite art program and clean it up, then save as a png:

Then go here and convert it to a .cur file. Make sure there's no gap between the corner of the arrow and the corner of the png.

Next you go to Control Panel:

Select Mouse from the list:

Then go to the Pointers tab and pick whichever mouse cursor you want to replace.

Click "Browse..." and find the .cur file you made earlier:

And voila! I now have a Skyrim cursor.

You may have to tinker with the size a bit to get the point to be accurate. If that happens, just resize your png and convert to .cur again.

Happy customization!

yo can you make a guide for custom animated cursors too because stuff like the processing cursor and spinning wheel are important to be animated

Avatar

So, animated cursors are a little trickier because there isn't a reliable .cur to .ani (animated cursor) converter. You'll need to download an old program to get what you want.

But it IS possible! And just as customizable.

Part 1

Let's say I want my mouse to be Furret. First I need a gif with a transparent background.

(If you want to make your own gif instead, you need a series of .png files, then to upload them on this website here and customize what kind of timing you want.)

This gif is definitely WAY too big to become a proper mouse. So we need to shrink it down. Upload or paste the link in here, then figure out what size you want.

When you're ready to test it, go ahead and click "Resize Image!"

You'll want to pay attention to that file size there. At MAX, you never want to go over 60KiB.

So we have our tiny Furret. What now?

You see all those icons underneath the preview?

You want to click this one.

Then hit "Split into frames!" here. Don't worry about the "Split options" box, it won't really impact the end result for what we're going for here.

Ta-da! You now have every frame of your gif ready. Click "Download frames as ZIP," then once you have the Zip file, extract the files into a normal folder.

Part 2

Talking with friends about New Vegas makes me realize how many optional quest solutions (or other bonus opportunities) involve seducing/sleeping with people and maybe that’s a missed opportunity in Fallout 4? For example, take Confidence Man…

Vadim Bobrov: Travis is terrible at his job, and we need to get him more confidence, probably get him laid. Sole Survivor: Ok! No problem! Vadim Bobrov: Wait… what? Sole Survivor

CHEERS TO GUY WALTON FOR “OUTING” THE FOSSIL FUEL COMPANIES

From the article:

Walton has devised his own criteria for named heatwaves in the US, based on duration and extremity, on a one to five scale similar to hurricanes. Heatwave Chevron is classed as a four and is “historic”, Walton said. The meteorologist said he has a list of 20 oil and gas companies – including Exxon and Shell – for upcoming heatwaves and will turn to coal companies if he runs out of names.

OUTSTANDING MOVE

Y'all know what to do. Use Walton's naming system. Make it catch on.

if tumblr is gonna start giving us little achievement badges to wear on our blogs (which for the record i do think is kinda cute sorry) i need there to be more extreme milestones than just ‘make 100 posts’. i want something that tells people my blog is over a decade old. i want achievements for being blocked by xyz number of people. i want a ‘most unfollowed’ badge

it’s funny to me how the logic behind tumblr’s new layout changes are to coddle potential new users, to make them feel more comfortable by giving them a layout that’s more familiar to navigate

…..by making the CURRENT users feel LESS comfortable by giving them a layout that’s LESS familiar to navigate.

they’re prioritizing a hypothetical scenario over their established, existing userbase, some of which (like me) who have been here for 10+ years

THREE NEW SHARK SPECIES THIS WEEK!

The second week of July 2023 something extraordinarily beautiful happened, the findings of 3 new species of sharks for were announced

A new angel sharks species was identified, from the western Indian Ocean on the Mascarene Plateau and off southwestern India in 100–500 m depths, the Lea’s angel shark Squatina leae, was recognized to be different genetically and morphologically distinct from its congeneric species Squatina africanae, following unique morphological features.  This species was first detected in 1988 after finding  three unusual, small sharks, but till today was completely understood. The angel shark is named after one of the author’s fiancee’s late sister, Lea-Marie Cordt.

Squatina leae, adult male, in dorsolateral.

Angel sharks are “flatter sharks”, possesing distinctly broad, dorsoventrally flattened bodies, a short snout with large mouth and nostrils, eyes on top of the head close to the large spiracles, very large pectoral fins, and a lateral caudal keel. They’ve evolved to be ambush predators, they lie in wait for prey to pass closely overhead before attacking.

From North Australia, another species of hornshark is described based on six whole specimens and a single egg case. The painted hornshark Heterodontus marshallae was previously considered to be the same with the zebra bullhead shark another well know bullhead shark from the central Indo-Pacific from Japan  to Australia, but genetic and morphological analyses indicated the sharks were different, but looking alike. The painted hornshark is endemic to northwestern Australia and occurs in deeper waters, at 125–229 m below surface.

The painted hornsharks is named in honour of Dr. Lindsay Marshall www.stickfigurefish.com.au a scientific illustrator and elasmobranch scientist who expertly painted all the sharks and rays of the world for the Chondrichthyan Tree of Life Project.

And from an unidentified shark egg collected from the deep waters of northwestern Australia, in 2011 recently helped researchers identify a new species of deep water cat shark. Called ridged-egg catshark Apristurus ovicorrugatus after its eggs, it was collected in the earlys 90 but remained unknown to date. This sharks presents white eyes, and is small in size, reaching less than a half meter in length. .

Egg cases belonging to this species had been documented as early as the 1980s, but could not be matched to any species of Australian shark until recently scientists examined a shark specimen of previously uncertain identity in the CSIRO collection.
