After MC:

- Mc: Aw, I’m sorry they don’t have it. Why don’t we go see if there’s any other places that got X?

Or Lucifer hits up an antique dealer to pick up a tea set. When he goes home, he finds out that it has a chip in the rim.

Before MC: he either doesn’t give a shit or he goes back and skins the dealer then hangs him from the ceiling a la Predator.

After Mc:

- Mc: This one has a chip in it.

- Lucifer: What? That damn deale-

- Mc: I like it! :D If we throw it out, it might feel unloved and I’d feel awful for not cherishing it the way it is.

Or a restaurant runs out of food and normally Beel would throw a tantrum and eat the staff, but when restaurants run out now, MC just offers to take him home and bake a pie for him and he’s like Ok🥰 and leaves happy as can be (and all the staff are intact)

when you pick what sounds like a good option but then it ends up being the complete opposite tone from what it sounded like it would be

why is explaining a villains sad backstory always taken as an effort toward excusing their actions. why does the conversation need to involve the question of excusing anything rather than just making their present behavior way more interesting by complicating their feelings or their motivations. why is acknowledging complicated feelings or motivations taken as apologism in and of itself. why is everyone so incredibly boring

isekai games are so funny to me cuz like. 90% of the time if i got transported so some random new universe i'd probably be looking like this

Mc: Belphie is like a weird cat.

Mammon: Yeah? Why?

Mc: Well, when he is awake he seems rough and responsive, but wants cuddles and attention at random moments. He also likes you to be with him all the time when he sleeps even if he doesn't say so.

Literally right after I saw this post, I saw another post in a discord chat for BOOK EDITORS in which an outspokenly liberal editor talked about how Nabokov should have never been published because he wrote about p*dophiles and described women's bodies in ways that made her uncomfortable. She described his writing as "objectively terrible" and said she wanted to burn his books. And other editors were bringing up classics they didn't like and talking about how they wanted to throw them in the trash. This wasn't like a light "unpopular opinion!" conversation. This was actual book editors talking about how books should be destroyed and censored.

There is something so scary and toxic in global culture right now. The revival of fascism is influencing everyone's mindset and approach to art, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum.

I see far more books being censored today than when I was a kid. Librarians handed me The Catcher in the Rye, The Sexual Politics of Meat, and Animal Farm when I was literally 8-11. My mom would never have taken a book away from me. I read everything from the Tao Te Ching to the Qur'an to atheist texts under my desk at school. Teachers thought nothing of it or encouraged it. Books seemed universally acknowledged as sacrosanct to me.

Now I can't find any adults who don't hesitate or want to make exceptions when it comes to censorship. Even the most liberal social activist librarians I know go, "well except for book X..."

Functionally conservative. It's so important to have the language to express that.
