my precious little blog

@daour / daour.tumblr.com

marvel, iron man, comic edits, personal woes, and stuff like that.

len kaminski is one of the most underrated iron man writers of all time. he’s better known for co-creating the war machine and the hulkbuster armors, but I cherish his run for being the first to do a proper deep dive into tony stark’s psyche, exploring his childhood years and the way his relationship with howard affected him growing up. kaminski wrote tony as a very nuanced character, a guy who could be stern, opinionated and authoritative, but ultimately and indoubtedly well-intentioned, caring and good.

he also fleshed out maria stark’s role in tony’s upbringing, albeit in a limited capacity, but effectively planting the seeds for the fandom’s interpretation of tony’s relationship with his mother, something that was reflected in the most recent issue of murewa ayodele and dotun akande’s i am iron man, which cemented maria as a positive influence in tony’s early life.

it is also a well-known fun fact that he left iron man specifically due to editorial wanting to do the crossing, so he jumped ship because he refused to be the writer to ruin iron man. so that’s cool.

I feel like it’s a disservice to frame kaminski only with regards to his contributions to the iron man mythos, since he is an actual person beyond his writing portfolio, and one who is struggling right now, but that’s all I really got. still, based on some testimonies I’ve read, kaminski seems to be a genuinely good guy and a delight to work with, so I felt the extra need to spread the word about this campaign.

the stan lee quote of "i wanted to give myself a challenge to make the readers like a weapons manufacturer industrialist character at the height of the cold war" etc gets passed around a whole lot but nobody ever talks about how he actually went about solving this challenge which is to give the weapons manufacturer industrialist severe mental health issues

in addition to the "tragic figure behind the curtains" dichotomy, another element that people love to misconstrue about stan lee's quote is the fact that tony's personality was never meant to be one of the things readers would dislike about him.

lee still wrote tony stark as a conventionally heroic and well-manered protagonist. people love to bring up that stan lee quote as justification for the perception that tony stark was conceived as an "amusing asshole" protagonist, yet lee never even hints at tony's personality being one of the things readers would hate about him, instead always citing superficial traits, namely his profession and social class. and this is because tony's heroic personality is one of the factors that evens out these cons (the other being the "tragic figure behind the curtains" dichotomy)

yet people argue that lee's quote means that tony was cut from the same fabric as all of these "amusing asshole" characters like bbc sherlock or rick sanchez and I hate that.

merry christmas everybody, in the anniversary of the very special day when tony stark found his self worth, tony stark will come to your house and gift you a ridiculously giant bunny plushie, but if you were a naughty kid, the mandarin will blow up your house.

If Norman Osborn and Wilson Fisk had gone head-to-head for the position of American president (with Osborn on the rep side and Fisk on the demo side) by doing everything they can to get the popular vote, what would the heroes and villains think about this turn of events? And what happens if the two groups can't find anything on them that they exploit to bring down both men in a way? Note: The alternate scenario here can happen at any point in the canonicity of the Marvel 616 Universe.

mmh, this is a very specific scenario. for the sake of simplicity i’m going to assume this whole thing is happening in the present, or at least the near future.

i’d say fisk wouldn’t be a surprise. both heroes and villains have already assumed he’s gone ”””legit”””, plus he’s already in the political landscape since he’s currently the mayor of nyc.

as for normie, after dark reign, i’m pretty sure anybody would consider osborn trying to get into the white house a display of insanity, since people already know he’s evil and it would be near impossible for him to regain an ounce of his reputation. whereas fisk has already cleaned his name to the regular citizens, osborn is essentially in the other side of the spectrum. if he had tried to run for president *during* dark reign, that would make it a lot easier. he’s also currently trying to go back to being the green goblin, so i just can’t even see him even trying to become president, unlike kingpin.

considering fisk has already become mayor, and it’s already been adressed people failed to get dirt on him, I feel it’d be hard for anybody to stop him. if you combine the fact that a) there’s already somebody almost as nasty as fisk in office and b) that the citizens of the mu are idiots since they embraced osborn really easily despite the fact it was a known fact he was the green goblin, i’d say it isn’t inconceivable to believe fisk could even win the presidential race.
