@dangerouslilly / dangerouslilly.tumblr.com

Queer sex blogger (see: dangerouslilly.com). Big proponent of Boycott Toxic Toys movement. What you'll find here: Sex education; lots of sex toys; sex toy sales notifications; the occasional giveaway; random awesome shit.

An on-going sex-toy-myth-busting battle I deal with weekly is the myth that silicone toys can never, ever touch in storage or they’ll “melt”.

I created a jar of silicone toys years ago to help combat this, and to contrast with the Melted Jar of Horrors that is PVC and TPR toys. But one mason jar of silicone doesn’t seem to cut it.

Last week in my kitchen a lightbulb went off. I realized how many silicone kitchen utensils exist - the lids for your Rubbermaid containers; ice cube trays; baking pans; hot pads and trivets; spatulas and turners and scrapers oh my; cupcake cups and egg poaching cups; pinch bowls and collapsible bowls. These items touch and mingle in our drawers and on the store shelves with nary a problem.

Yet, somehow, people don’t seem to be putting 2 and 2 together. Many of our sex toys are made from an even better quality silicone than some of the cheaper kitchen tools, yet you don’t see these kitchen tools come with warnings about storage. They don’t tend to be packaged for separation on the shelves, either. At most they have a cardboard sleeve around part of it, for utility’s sake, but that’s about it.

Between my house and a kitchen store, look at all these silicone things, mingling and touching and storing for months and years! No problems!

Of all the materials that people can make sex toys out of, silicone is one of the best. I can teach you how to tell if it’s not actually silicone; it can be had for cheap, despite what some manufacturers have been trying to tell us and still be high quality (unlike metal or glass). It can be sanitized. It can be firm or squishy, black, white, clear or 16 different colors at once.

And yes, it can mingle. You can throw em all in a giant tub and all will be fine. Believe me yet? Check out the links in this post to learn more, and spread the education!

“Elite” Silicone? Um, well, not this one...

Over on Reddit, where I usually don't go anymore, I happened to see a post in r/sextoys that said that Pipedream's "Elite Silicone" products are not actually silicone. You know I hate the company but I was still very slightly wary until I could get a flame test done. I figured there was a chance that there was a printing error on the boxes. So I pinged @SheVibe and they confirmed their boxes of just this model (Anal Fantasy Vibrating Thruster) do indeed say "TPR / ABS" on the bottom of the box despite the front saying silicone. Cue flame test! The flame test results are weird, in that I didn’t expect two different results. The insertable portion is definitely either TPR or PVC (zero odor so I'm leaning towards TPR), but the suction cup is silicone!! That gray ash always means silicone, and silicone won't deform/melt/burn like TPR will. One toy, two textbook examples of results. I don't know why they would glue a silicone suction cup to a TPR vibrator, or think they can get away with such blatant packaging lies in 2018, but here we are. Two packages from two different stores, one of them Canadian, means this isn't a small error. I don't know if the rest of Anal Fantasy silicone line is silicone or TPR without flame testing everything, and I'm not able to do that just yet.

This one also felt weird in hand - the TPR has a weird “squeaky cheese” feel (I’m sorry, I can’t describe it) when you rub a thumb over it and I’ve never experienced that with silicone. The closest other thing I can say it’s like are those “Bandaids for Blisters”? Well, when you run a finger over it. The bandaids are probably more cushy.

Shevibe has pulled this model from their site. So far no response from Pipedream.

I wish I could tell by looking at the pictures of the rest of the Anal Fantasy line if any others are suspect. The Thruster is the only one with a suction cup base that is clearly a separate piece glued on. See more of the line at Shevibe here, and tread carefully.

After a lot of consideration – this weekend and this past year – and careful examination I’m requesting that my affiliate account with Tantus be closed immediately.

Most of my followers will know that Tantus is a company I’ve supported for pretty much my entire blogging career, so I didn’t make this decision lightly. This decision is a result of recent bad behavior on social media, new information coming to light about how they treat employees, and more.

It’s complicated, because for a long time I saw all the good that Tantus did for the community, for sex toys, for me personally. I can’t overlook that but I also cannot overlook everything I know. I’ve Blacklisted other companies for lesser offenses.

I still believe that their products are safe silicone; many of their items are made in America - except for the silky-soft silicone that has the powdery-like finish which you’ll see on the paddles, the cock rings, and some butt plugs. These are all produced in China but as far as I can tell, it’s not information that’s been readily available.

I will still probably recommend Tantus products, but will only be recommending them through SheVibe. There is a quickly growing industry of silicone dildos, many of which are priced less than your typical Tantus dildo.

The details of the catalyst for this decision and all my reasons are here: http://dangerouslilly.com/2018/09/and-when-it-all-goes-to-hell/

[GLORIOUS DILDO REMOVAL POP]

Ok, let’s back up a minute.

A few weeks ago Kenton (Funkit Toys) and I presented a session at Woodhull’s Sexual Freedom Summit called “Platinum Grade Sex Toy Myths: Material Safety Data Between the Sheets”. The session was conceived between Sarah Goodnight, Kenton and myself as a response to last year’s questionable “body-safe” panel that catapulted The Screaming O back on my Blacklist and enraged a whole bunch of bloggers and educators. You can read the transcript of last year’s session here, and read more about how Screaming O landed themselves in hot water here.

Last year, we were told that we were wrong about the definition of “body-safe”, that we were scaring people by using the scientifically-incorrect term “toxic toys”, that silicone is prohibitively expensive but hey, TPR is cheap! We were talked at about a lot of other things and that bred this year’s session.

So check out the blog post for an updated view of the Jar of Horrors, the live stream of our session complete with captioning, and a compendium of links and info to complement the live stream information. You can also read how I compared PVC and TPR to Eggplant Parmesan and Italian Food, if you’re into strange analogies.

So, We-Vibe and Womanizer merged. Yep, that’s a thing now.

What does this mean for the brands and their line-up? That much hasn’t entirely been revealed, yet, but I do know for sure that the Pro40 (my favorite of all the Womanizer models) has been discontinued, as well as the oversized lipstick version, 2GO.

Why the Plus is on sale, I couldn’t say, but if they discontinue THAT one too I’m gonna be mighty pissed. That will leave only the lackluster Starlet and the garish potato, the Deluxe.

I’ve got the Satisfyer Pro Traveler review to finish up and then I’ll update the Womanizer vs Satisfyer Guide one more time. I can’t keep up with all these product comings-and-goings and I’ve lost my desire to try every model. I do know I’ll never try the dual-stim versions - y’all know how much I hate trying and recommending something that is only going to line up with all the bits in only a handful of people out of 100.

We-Vibe was quick to ask for patience when I tweeted my frustration, and they say they are "consolidating and simplifying” the line. If this means ditching all the decent products, I’m not on board, but we’ll see what they have in store.

Look at this trove, treasures untold How many wonders can one giveaway hold? Looking around here you think, "Sure, she's got everything" I've got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty I've got whozits and whatzits galore You want dildos? I've got twenty!

Okay, there’s more than 20 dildos. There’s 46 prizes in total, and the giveaway ends July 23rd.

It’s been 10 interesting (and SALTY) years of blogging for me.

As a thank you for everything you’ve done to help keep me going I’m giving you a chance to win one of 46 prizes - this includes TEN PURE WANDS, one for every year of blogging because I love it that much.

There’s a decent variety of items that I couldn’t begin to list out here, so you’ll have to check it out: http://bit.ly/10SaltyYears

Sex-pos/Queer pin bundles, a beautiful flogger, some fantasy dildos, and plenty of Pride-themed rainbow products - Standard Glass, Blush, Tails n Portholes, Funkit! And so, so much more. Everything in this giveaway is either an item I have personally enjoyed over the years from companies and retailers I respect or comes highly recommended from fellow reviewers I respect. This giveaway is all about the companies and people who’ve impressed me over the years.

Check it out!

Hey hey... Want more entry points? I've added two new questions worth a total of 20 points if you get them right!

So @newyorktoycollective sent me a whole bunch of awesome stuff for the giveaway. Thanks NYTC!! That cool tote bag folds up into itself but that's gonna be the winners job. I can't do it, I'm inept.

15% off my favorite sex toys!

I haven’t yet added the Starlet’s info to the Womanizer vs Satisfyer comparison chart, but I’m not in love with it. For the price and lack of features, I’d say pass. In fact, my review (publishing this weekend) tells you that I’d actually pick the Satisfyer Pro 2 Next Gen instead! Shocker, I know.  But otherwise, pick any Womanizer!

It's awkward but that's her M.O. She's been going back and forth between me and him, laying on us in her best attempt at cuddles, knowing we need a little extra help. And maybe she does, too. She calls out for her old reluctant friend who is never coming home. Life in the house is somber without our other girl.

Over the weekend I'll be sharing more photos (and video!) here on Instagram of @shevibe headquarters - what a magical place it is! So much love to the SV crew for having me, and for shipping out a bunch of raffle prizes. Every time I hang out with Sandra and Thor I am reminded WHY I am so in love with Shevibe and choose to send my readers there to shop over just about any store. They are wonderful people and wonderful business owners. I adore them.

Did you buy tickets in the raffle?

If you bought tickets in the SFS18 Fundraising Raffle that closed today, I’ll be picking the winners tomorrow night (4/24) at 7pm EST live on Twitter. Nothin fancy, just announcing the ticket numbers & winners initials. Winners will also be notified later via email!

Once again I'm going to try to organize my sex toy collection. I don't use most of these; but I feel the need to keep them for comparison, projects, etc. I've been doing a really poor job of organizing all these years and would love to find a better method!

I Want You to Want Me

Or, more specifically, the sex toys I’ll be giving away in a few months. It’s time to start planning my 10 YEAR blog anniversary giveaway and I wanna be sure I’m giving you what you want. I’m getting a little insight into this by seeing how many tickets are purchased for each prize bundle in the Woodhull Scholarships raffle, but I need more data. Always need more data!

I’ve picked out a few dozen things I THINK you’d want, and have left a spot for you to tell me what you want if it’s not listed.

Anyone else wanna weigh in on this?

12 Prize Bundles. $3200+ worth of sex toys, books, art and more. Help us help marginalized bloggers get to the educational Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit in 2018!

HELLO! We (Lilly Delvaux of dangerouslilly.com and Sarah Brynn Holliday of formidablefemme.com) are teaming up this year to fundraise to bring marginalized bloggers to Woodhull’s annual Sexual Freedom Summit… and we need YOUR help!

We’ve collected dozens of sex toys, kink stuff, books, and art for a raffle to help marginalized bloggers attend this year’s Woodhull—all donated by fantastic sex toy companies and your favorite sex bloggers, educators, and content creators. Whoever said fundraising wasn’t fun obviously never participated in a sex toy raffle!

We’re aiming to raise a number of $500 scholarships to distribute to marginalized bloggers. Woodhull will be receiving the money from the raffle, and their board members will be looking over the scholarship applications and distributing funds. No money passes through Lilly and Sarah’s hands at all and we don’t have the final say (or even the majority say) about who receives the scholarships. We’re just here to raise money!

This fundraiser wouldn’t be possible without the very generous support of these companies; our gratitude for donating products! Shevibe.com, Doxy, Tantus Inc, Blush Novelties, Split Peaches, Early 2 Bed, Smitten Kitten, Betty’s Toy Box, Vibrant, b-Vibe, Crowned Jewels, Hedonic, Kandles by Kitten and Kink Academy.

Special Thanks to the bloggers and educators who have donated their wares: Sex Ed A Gogo, Cooper S. Beckett, Girl On The Net, Allison Moon, Kat Stark, Shock and Awesome, and Angel.

And more thanks to CrashPadSeries.com who generously provided 12 1-month memberships, 1 for every prize bundle.

Please share and buy tickets if you can! Thank you!!

So many thanks to all who’ve shared this so far, and my apologies to those who repeatedly see this in their timeline. I promise you though, it’s for such a good cause. The education and community support that bloggers can build by attending a conference like the Summit is invaluable.

By now we’ve raised enough funds for 2.5 scholarships! Can we get it to 4 scholarships funded before the weekend is over??? LET’S TRY!

And, for my own readers and followers I’m hoping that all of the donors find a high enough return of value on this to plump up my 10-year blog anniversary giveaway I’ll be launching this summer ;)

Yep, I keep re-blogging and talking about this because it’s just that important to me.

BUT HEY I HAVE BIG NEWS! GOOD NEWS! FREE SHIPPING TO EVERYBODY!

So some companies had already said they’d take care of the shipping Internationally - Vibrant, Betty’s Toy Box, Doxy, Split Peaches, b-Vibe, but not everybody can make that happen. Plus, I had a number of items I’d had waiting around for giveaways and raffles and whatnot. Given the ridiculous cost of the USPS for shipping a 2 pound box overseas I just couldn’t personally afford to front that so, like my giveaways, I stated that International people would need to pay the shipping. Compared to the overall retail value of the bundles y’all were still getting it good but I know it’s not ideal and you’re already spending money on your generous donation.

SheVibe told me yesterday to haul my stash down to their warehouse (which yes means I finally get to be inside a sex toy retailers warehouse YESSSSSS) when the raffle is over and they will handle the shipping for me to reduce my financial strain AND to give International people free shipping. It’s SO generous and VERY EXCITING because some of these items aren’t available for a reasonable amount overseas. Probably most, if I’m honest.

This will increase ticket sales and raise the number of people we can help get to Woodhull. WIN-WIN!
