chief adam was stopped because he had an expired license plate and is now being charged with resisting arrest and unlawful assault. we’re asking that the charges be stayed and the rcmp officers involved be charged. please sign and share.

If you're going to a protest:

You. Need. To. Wear. A. Mask.

You. Need. To. Try. To. Stand. Six. Feet. Apart.

The pandemic is not over just because other things are happening.

Black people are more than twice as likely to die from COVID-19 as white people.

COVID-19 has already killed almost 20x as many black people in 5 months as cops have in 5 years.

I'm not posting these statistics to downplay police brutality against black people at all. It is of course unacceptable. But amidst all of our (rightful) protesting, we can't forget that COVID-19 is still a major threat.

EVERY person protesting needs to wear a mask (make sure it is made of an effective material - bandanas, scarves, and polyester masks are not effective). Masks do very little to protect the wearer. They help prevent the wearer from infecting others.

In crowds like we are seeing, a single person not wearing a mask could infect dozens, perhaps hundreds, of others. This has happened before. Remember, you can be contagious while having extremely mild symptoms, or even no symptoms.

It is also important to maintain a physical distance of at least 6 feet from others. Especially if you are shouting or singing - raising your voice creates more droplets and projects them further. It may seem like a daunting task to organize this, but it's not impossible. 2800 Israelis did it in April.

I know physically distancing won't be possible in all situations, because police are being very aggressive at a lot of the protests, but it's not an excuse to not try when it is possible. Every case prevented is a life potentially saved.

Black lives matter, whether they're being brutalized by cops, or stricken down by a dangerous virus. Do what you can to prevent both.

And while we're here - please sign this petition to bring George Floyd's murderers to justice, if you haven't yet.

and if you are going to protests, especially if you’re attending more than a day in succession, you need to self-isolate for fourteen days afterward.

covid-19 cases are still being confirmed in huge numbers every day, and the last thing we need is to have an outbreak of covid related to the protests. saving black lives is not only an act of active protest: it can also be the seemingly passive act of simply staying home to ensure you don’t infect others.

anonymous leaked bolsonaro’s private info including his credit card number and someone on twitter bought a whole ass macbook pro with it. yes. a person bought an macbook pro with the president’s credit card. this country really isn’t for beginners

SOMWBODY ELSE BOUGHT. A FUCKI NG APARTMENT I-

hey, brazilian person here. it may all sound funny and shit (and damn, he even got affiliated to many left wing parties) but… he’s been trying to insure a dictatorship even since he got elected. there’s been protests against democracy and he’s been attending them all (without a mask, btw. meanwhile, almost 30k have died of coronavirus, we still got no health minister, even if i called it anarchy we still would prefer anarchy cause this is a whole new level). we are now standing in solidarity with USA! our police system is the most deadly in the world, killing 2x more than the american, specially young black kids. if you can, please keep an eye out for us and sign the petition justice for João Pedro

PAY ATTENTION TO BRAZIL. BLACK PEOPLE ARE BEING KILLED EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. AND SEVERAL OF THEM ARE FUCKING KIDS.

the one petition everyone is sharing is for João Pedro, was was killed inside his home, he was shot on his back. 70, and i repeat, 70 shots were fired against the house he was in, and the police claimed it was because they were in a confront. everyone near his house confirmed there wasn’t anything going around.

Young Black boy killed during Protests by White Supremacist!!!

A young black protester was shot dead outside a bar in Omaha as unrest across the nation engulfed the Nebraska city, by white supremacist Jake Gardner.

The victim was identified as 22-year-old James Scurlock, whose father called for justice as the city braced for another night of chaos.

“Last night I lost a son, my wife lost a son, my kids lost a brother,” the grieving dad, who has the same name, told reporters at the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation Visitors Center, “His daughter lost a father. All because he decided to protest against racism.“

Unfortunetly, Prosecutors in Omaha, Nebraska, said Monday that the white bar owner will not face charges because in their minds “video evidence shows he acted in self defense” even though he had aimed the gun to a crowd of unarmed protesters and James only got involved to protect anyone form getting shot, resulting in losing his life, as both videos here show: video1/video2

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Call county Attorney Don Kleine and Mayor Stotgert. Demand justice and demand Jake Gardner be held responsible for the murder!!

Since I haven’t seen any mention of it yet, except on twitter, i’d also like to remind everyone that not only is June LGBT pride month, but it’s also Indigenous History month!

Please take the time to support, uplift and remember your Native, First Nations, Aboriginal and otherwise Indigenous friends and family. We are here, we exist! We have a long and winding history that deserves to be heard and respected! The word ‘Indigenous’ is so wonderful, and so expansive, and includes so many different cultures under its arms. Go out, learn about our histories and our cultures. Talk to the Indigenous people around you! We’re everywhere!

And not only that, but also be sure to give extra support to LGBT indigenous voices in this community. We are a minority that is scarcely acknowledged, and in desperate need of it. Too many times have I gotten strange looks for being so openly Native and so openly a lesbian. It’s as if that combination is impossible for people to understand. Support our content, buy from our stores! Or at least just include us!

I’d like to wish a happy LGBT pride month, and a happy Indigenous History month to everyone, but especially us LGBT Native folks. This really is our month to be open about ourselves, and I sure intend to. 💗🏳️‍🌈

Also, this family was providing space for protesters to escape tear gas and get medical attention in their restaurant before the fire:

...the Islam family opened a room in their spacious restaurant to medics, who set up a makeshift field hospital. Ms. Islam said she saw at least 200 people come in and out on both Tuesday and Wednesday night. Some needed to catch their breath after inhaling tear gas, she said. One woman had been hit in the eye by a rubber bullet, damaging her vision. A rubber bullet tore open the back of another man’s neck. When he fell unconscious, the medics laid him out on a table.

Honestly, though, the best part of teaching Greek mythology is that soft ‘huh’ coming from behind you as you’re finishing up a diagram of the gods and the relationships they have between them. “Is something wrong?” you ask, turning around while you try, and fail, to clean white chalk off your fingers. “It’s just,” the boy says, and then he blushes a bit, because people taking Latin are usually good and shy and the last thing they want is to get into a fight with a teacher. “Those two characters here - aren’t they both men?” And okay, at this point everybody’s paying attention except the resident class child - that one girl who still has to uses four different colours for everything she writes and will get upset if you point out she should only use black or blue when filling in exams. So, yeah, you look at the boy, and then at everybody else, and then you turn back, pretend to check. “Yes, they are,” you say, frowning, as if you never had to answer that question before. “So why is there a double line between them?” “Because they were in a relationship at some point. Double lines are for sex, remember? Single lines are kids and parents, and double lines are lovers.” Someone giggles. The two kids whose parents bring them along to weird art exhibitions - the ones who’ve grown up hearing frank political discussions and the occasional dirty joke - are now looking collected and a bit smug. The others are losing it, and fast - they look at the board, as if only just noticing the thing, and then at you. “So, they were like, gay?” someone else asks, and it’s always a girl asking this question, because ‘gay’ is just something boys aged 14 and a half never use - a Voldemort word, something that’s on your lips today and on everybody else’s tomorrow. And this, of course, is the moment you’ve been waiting for - what the lesson was actually about. You wouldn’t plan a lesson around that, but you will mention the subject if it comes up, and so you start talking, about all of it - about sexual orientation being a cultural construct, about the Greek language not even having a term for ‘gay’ and ‘straight’, about warriors falling in love with each other and neglecting their teenage wives, about the fact our society is still coming to terms with something people have known in their hearts for millennia - that there’s no choosing and no free will, not about this. About how the most important thing is to respect yourself and each other, and the rest doesn’t matter all that much. Statistically, in every class there’s a kid who’s struggling with this. Maybe two. Here things are not as bad as they could be, but it’s still hard, especially when you’re fourteen and you think you may be the only one and you don’t want to be different and how the hell can you even have a conversation about these things, with anyone? And sometimes when you talk about these things - and dedicated teachers will find a way to include this speech somehow, because you never know who might need an ally, and who might need to hear it said out loud - teachers who loves their kids will mention the issue when discussing Michelangelo and Leonardo and Shakespeare and the Iliad - sometimes you see exactly who these kids are. Sometimes you see them looking at you, wide-eyed and fearful and yet full to the brim with that Go on look that’s so endearing on any kind of student. And sometimes all you see is their floppy hair, because they will keep scribbling in their notebooks and pretending like this is uninteresting and embarrassing and Oh my God, but the tips of their ears are getting red, and you find yourself hoping they’ll get a hug today, because they really need it.
