I have three more free invitations to the blogging site Pillowfort.

Who wants some?

For those who don’t know: Pillowfort, while much smaller than Tumblr, is much better than Tumblr as a social media in most ways. People can control who gets to see posts by limiting it to everyone, logged-in users, followers, mutuals, or private. People can control whether it’s possible to reblog or comment on a post.

If people delete a post, all reblogged copies of the post are deleted, too. It has very effective tag and post body filtering.

The centerpiece of socialization is designed to be its communities, which can be moderated by community moderators and can be made with specific rules. There’s not a limit on responses to posts: there can be long, thorough, well-organized forum-like conversations in the comment sections of posts.

I have three more invitations now, in addition to the large amounts I already have.

Who wants some invitations?

People used to comment on web comics.

People used to comment on fanfiction.

People used to comment on fanart.

People used to comment on OCs.

I hate "content" culture.

I hate "consuming content" and scrolling immediately to the next thing.

People used to be excited about the art that other people created.

People used to want to share that excitement with creators.

I hate this future.

GET KOSA TRENDING.

STOP SCROLLING NOW!

AS OF FEBRUARY 21ST, 2024, WE GOT FIVE DAYS UNTIL THE DAY OF DECISION OF THE KOSA BILL, WHICH WILL CAUSE MASS CENSORSHIP ROUND THE INTERNET IF PASSED. OR DOOMSDAY. WE NEED EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS AND CONTRIBUTE. I'M NOT GIVING UP ON YOU ALL.

WE'RE DOWN TO THE WIRE BUT WE CAN'T GIVE UP YET. IF WE GIVE UP, EVERYTHING IS OVER. IF WE DON'T, AT LEAST WE HAVE A CHANCE.

I'M THE ONE WHO SOUNDED THE ALARM, AND I'M NOT GOING TO CURL UP AND DIE YET.

Reblog this post in every LEGAL way you can under the Tumblr guidelines with the appropriate tags. TELL AND TAG EVERYONE YOU KNOW, then add the tags to see below... and more if you can think of any complying.

Visit badinternetbills.com if you want to find a way to defeat KOSA. It WILL NOT take much of your time. Reblog with any other information or sources, too-- but make sure to reblog if you can.

Reblog if you support lgbtq+ content.

Reblog if you support questioning queer youth and/or abused youth getting the information they need.

Reblog if you support Ao3 and/or other sites that wholeheartedly preserve talentedly made media.

Reblog if you're going to repost this on other sites than Tumblr and spread the word across Twitter, Tik Tok, Pinterest, or elsewhere, alongside the link to badinternetbills.com.

Reblog if you think KOSA is unfair and shouldn't be anyone's problem -- including the adults ALL OVER THE DAMN EARTH forced to face the mass censorship it causes because "think of the American Children!".

Reblog if you support internet activism and Palestine.

Reblog if you hate fascism or censorship, and don't want actually serious and helpful conversations censored on the internet.

Reblog if you value the internet in any way at all whatsoever.

We won't let this stand any longer. Let's start a riot and get this trending.

The problem with Nightshade with regard to tumblr potentially selling us out to AI is that you can't protect any un-Nightshaded work that has already been reblogged from your OP. That stuff's out there, and you're not going to be able to track it all down and deal with it retroactively.

However.

Nightshade your old stuff anyway and repost it so that any future reblogs are poisoned, but especially Nightshade anything new before posting it. That way all the reblogs of your new work will be poisoned from the start.

This is a survey question that I made out of curiosity. Make sure to reblog for a larger sample size.

For me, it was a pretty hard decision, but in the end I decided to go with Bansheep cause I liked the ghost aesthetic (and I thought it was pretty cute).

I chose Bansheep, probably because I thought the icons were more illustrative of what it looked like, and also because it looked more like a Pokémon.

We talk a lot about the decline of comment culture in fandom spaces these days, and I recently saw a post that reminded me of my prevailing theory about why that started.

I can't speak for everyone, but I know that I personally stopped commenting on people's art and fic on tumblr specifically when I saw the culture shift toward creators berating and publicly shaming the people who reblogged their work for any kind of comments or tags that the creator didn't like.

I stopped commenting art when I saw prominent posts going around ranting about how awful it was to see comments like "I don't usually like x but your work..." and "don't ever ever compare an artist's work to another thing you like" and "don't tag as kin/don't tag as your OC's name."

And then came the era of artists starting to investigate the blogs of people who reblogged their work, and shame/mock/harass/block anyone who reblogged their art who appeared to have a fandom opinion they didn't agree with.

And I am not saying there were even a lot of artists, writers etc DOING this.

But there was enough, and it was visible enough, to make the idea of commenting or leaving a tag on someone's work seem daunting.

Because you never knew if that creator was going to explode on you for some harmless comment wanting to be nice and share your thoughts about it, or even just because you reblogged their art and they decided they didn't like you.

Please do things to strengthen your attention span. It stresses me out so much when people just accept their small attention spans and cater to them without any acknowledgment that they are making it worse by doing that.

There is a reason attention spans are worse now and it didn’t just happen by chance. Media and the internet designed it that way and we went with it because it was easier.

Some of us with ADHD and brain fog need to meet ourselves where we’re at and lengthen our exercise span by watching a two minute video instead of a one minute video. Some of us need to sit down and read a novel with our phones turned off.

Wherever you’re at, just realize that not doing things that feel hard will keep making your attention span worse.
