I don't know if it's the depression speaking but these days I find it incredibly hard to enjoy anything about the Internet.

Literally every website has become a thousand times more inconvenient, bloated with promoted or recommended shit, stupid UI/UX changes pushed by out of touch billionaires.

The tipping point this week was Google changing the regular "Web - Images - Videos - Etc." tabs with fucking stupid ever-changing search suggestions, making the site a thousand times less accessible and so much more annoying to use

I'm tired. I want forums back. I want ugly html pages that give useful information back. I want to connect with other Internet users in a meaningful way again. Fuck modern corporate UI design. Fuck social media. I want out.

i saw a quote that said “i feel like i’m constantly worrying about the next part of my life without realizing that i’m right in the middle of what i used to look forward to.” and i felt that.

County and city governments in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona:

"Yea, totally, we're compassionate and humane. We're the enlightened 'Left Coast' after all, right? So we acknowledge that our homelessness and housing prices are so obscene that even people across the planet, in other nations, are aware of and horrified by the reputation of cities like San Francisco and Seattle, whose names have become notorious. Anyway. In the past two or three years, the situation has significantly worsened, because these cities have aggressively increased legal attacks and intimidation against homeless people, by increasing crackdowns on and criminal sentences for 'loitering' and for sleeping outside. Portland, for example, has aggressively cleared long-standing camps and unofficial traditional places of refuge while outlawing 'camping'. Our cities have been dramatically increasing the frequency of camp sweeps, trashing peoples' only belongings. This year in 2023, for the third consecutive summer in a row, temperatures will again be reaching above 105 degrees Fahrenheit for multiple days, in these cities, like Seattle, where even 70% of rented households have no air conditioning due to the typically mild marine climate of the coast. Meanwhile, already earlier in July 2023, temperatures in Phoenix were above 110 degrees for 19 straight days. In the past year, the state of New Mexico saw a 48% increase in homelessness. The LA Times and LA Homeless Services Authority reported in June 2023 that on any given night there are over 46,000 people experiencing homelessness in the City of Los Angeles, while on any given night L.A. County hosts about 75,000 (seventy-five thousand) people experiencing homelessness. That's a lot of people who will be subject to persistent extreme heat. Therefore, because we are compassionate and humane, we will be declaring an official state of emergency and temporarily halting our police enforcement of camp sweeps ... for the next three days. Until Friday morning or whatever. After that, we're coming back with the bulldozers and heavily armed cops to cleanse you filth and purge our streets."

(Reading about, for example, Portland mayor's office being like: "We had big raids on homeless camps scheduled for this week, but we'll postpone them until Friday! :) You're welcome!")

me as a youtuber making thousands of dollars off of video essays paraphrasing the Wikipedia articles for horrific travesties throughout European and Asian history: uhh okay I’m not even gonna TRY to pronounce that one 😂

i just realised i never seen the Indigenous America map so…this is what I found

The bottom one is spoken languages.

Begging leftists who are active on the internet to be careful of what they're posting, especially if they are posting their opinions on accounts with their irl face. I see SO MANY young (18-21) communists posting on twitter and instagram with a hammer and sickle icon in their bio, talking openly about US imperialism and posting images of their face-- and I don't think people understand that these posts could potentially be used to charge them with a crime.

What you post on the internet or google can be used as evidence in court! There are people on the internet who are undercover officers! EVERYTHING you post, even if your account is private, can be handed over to the authorities.

I understand that visibility of lefist ideas is important, but so is your physical safety. We are in McCarthyism 2.0 (though the original era never truly ended). Please read about cointelpro, about the undercover officers who infiltrated the BLM movement, and about how the FBI used anarchist zines to divide leftist groups.

These are all previous tactics used by the US government that are STILL IN USE to infiltrate leftist movements. Except now, thousands of people have visible social media trails. I am especially concerned about self proclaimed communist groups (not naming names, but there is a prominent Asian diaspora org that does this) posting numerous pictures and videos of its members. Even if the organization itself isn't doing anything illegal, those individuals pictured might, and this content is EASILY used in court to prosecute leftists, regardless of whether or not they've done anything "illegal."

Please, please be careful with what you post. I myself am guilty of this very issue! But as the talons of US empire tighten, heat will be coming down on those who are self declared against it. I encourage people to read about the May 19th movement and the Black Liberation army, both of which were "underground" organizations. Visibility and representation is not going to lead to the revolution, at least not under these conditions.
