I lost a close friend, a mentor, and my inspirational big brother today. I’m still in that fog of disbelief and sadness. He was rare. Someone I valued. Deeply. This one hurts a lot.
It reminds me of something I read a while ago about a sad paradox of life. Too many people invest a great deal of value in the things that they can replace and knowingly neglect those things that are irreplaceable.
People value the brand-name clothes, the luxury car, the vacation home. All of these are replaceable.
Their health. Their family and loved ones. Their mental state and inner peace. These are not replaceable.
Its in times, like this, I am reminded to reevaluate and take stock of life in general. Be grateful. Reach out.
I feel that it’s important that we continually ask ourselves what are the things that we truly value and be cognizant of what is irreplaceable on that list. Also, embody ‘Acta Non Verba’. If you say you value, X,Y, and Z, but your time, energy, and attention is not aligned with them, it’s just words. You need to walk your talk and adjust accordingly if you are not. And lastly… especially after today… you need to start right now. Realize, without question, that your list of those beautifully irreplaceable parts of your life may not be there tomorrow.
