Man Used His Olive Garden All-You-Can Eat Pass To Feed People In Need

We really hope this kind of carb loading becomes a fad.

Back in September, Matt Tribe purchased Olive Garden’s Never Ending Pasta Pass, which –- for $100 — invited customers to eat as much pasta as they possibly could over the course of seven weeks. But the Ogden, Utah man soon realized he could nourish himself and use the oodles of noodles to help homeless people, friends and strangers, according to his website, Random Acts of Pasta.

The animal hospital called this morning

Apparently Whiskey is still pretty out of it, and wouldn’t eat dry food, but he did take his pills with some peanut butter. 

They took him outside, and his one leg was holding up ok, but he’s in a bit of a sling right now. He managed to pee on his own though which is good. 

I might be hearing from the neurologist at some point to day, but definitely by 8pm (6hrs from now) I will be getting a call with further updates on how he’s doing. 

He might be able to come home tomorrow night, but they could potentially keep him until Tuesday. 

This morning kind of sucked because after the call (which woke me up), I was ready to go back to sleep, and I thought I felt Whiskey against the back of my leg, and I went to apologize for bumping him (out of habit) and it was just a pillow, and I was sad because I remembered that he’s at the doggy hospital an hour away. *pout*

Yesterday’s info: 

Just before 9am, my dog went to jump up on my bed, and mid-jump he yelped, and dropped to the ground. His back left leg was stuck out at an odd angle and not moving, and he was doing a puppy smile, but his eyes were showing signs of bulging (whaling) a little from pain. 

Within mere minutes, his back left leg also stopped working and was pointed back, he was struggling to make himself stand up, which was mostly just him flopping around, and he lost control of his bowels and bladder. 

After being rinsed off and burrito’d in a towel to try and stop him from flopping around, I drove him to the emergency animal hospital he went to when his left leg hurt him last time, but their emergency hours weren’t open yet, so they sent me to another one 20mins away,  and my mom showed up for support. 

They checked him out, and at that point he was semi paralyzed, but could still feel pain in his spine, which as awful as it sounds, is a good sign. His vet bill from there wasn’t horrible, but they told us then that the odds on this costing $4,000-$5,000 to fix was a possibility. 

The neurologist wasn’t in, so they ended up sending us to the University of Guelph’s animal hospital, which is very good, because vet offices from hours away will send patients there for certain procedures.

He was looked at, and it was determined that he likely had a slipped or damaged disk, and while it was possible to attempt to do medical management (pain pills and so on; if he was worse or not better at all by the next day, the price for surgery would jump by another $2,000, and his % of successful results could drop by 50% or more

Some of the deciding factors based on what the vet said, where that this could happen again even with medical management, and could be much worse next time (and since it had already happened once before, and this time was worse, I didn’t doubt that for a second), and that while Whiskey is 12, he’s a mixed breed and small, so he likely has several years ahead of him, and the success rate for this surgery is 90-95%, which for any surgery, but especially one on the spine, is very high!

So of course, as much as I REALLY cannot afford what will be a roughly $5,000 hospital bill, I couldn’t risk him hurting himself more, or getting worse, when he has so much life left to live, and he’s my sweet baby. 

I’m going to have to do some kind of crowd-funding type thing to help pay for this, especially since the down payment alone was $2,500, 

so I am currently looking for options aside from GoFundMe, but in the mean time, if anyone wants to help, there is a donate button on my blog. 

I just want my lil guy back to looking like his happy and healthy self!

Update: He is now home again, and I am so happy. It’s hard to watch him struggle to walk, as he has very minimal right back leg function (it only moves somewhat when I walk him using the sling), and essentially no left back leg function so far. 

He also has a long line of staples down his back, giving him a franken-pup look, as well as a medication patch.  (Caution, photos below the text might be a bit graphic)

I’ve been given instructions on stretching and working his back legs 3 times a day, as well as pills to help with his pain, and he’s currently resting in a large cage filled with blankets and his fav toy.
