Idle Minds

@cybra-sensei / cybra-sensei.tumblr.com

Just my idle thoughts and things that catch my eye.

Guys, we've talked about this.

You need to give your domesticated wading ghosts larger death pools. I understand if you can't find a real Well, but you need an enclosure at least 5 times the size of the spirit itself.

Thank you for the PSA, and it’s certainly good advice! I am happy to report that in this particular photoset we’re looking at a temporary holding tank, possibly being used to keep a lab employee safe during a routine water test. There is a strict no-shared-space policy for outside contractors at reputable spirit preserves, both to keep the ghost from becoming frustrated at its inability to approach what it perceives as prey, and to ensure the safety of outside parties. Training sessions focusing heavily on positive reinforcement are used to get the ghost accustomed to the holding tank as well as short trips between the pond and an appropriate secured location. Many health checks and enrichment activities can be conducted directly at the water source, but sometimes a more controlled environment is required. Please be assured that the ghost in the photographs is doing ‘well’. ☆⌒( ^ ▽ ゜)

An Observation on “The Glitch” (Horizon Zero Dawn)

So I’ve been re-watching cutscenes and holo-information scenes from H:ZD along with Random Side Quest’s truly excellent lore series for the stuff that happened in the past like the obsessive nerd that I am because I am a lore whore for my favorite games.  There was one little detail that I missed in all my previous re-watches that suddenly jumped out at me now that I’ve finished the “Frozen Wilds” DLC, a quote by Elisabet Sobek.  The quote comes from the third holo-video in Ted Faro’s office (emphasis mine):

“Now your choice is what I tell them. Sign, and I’ll tell them the wealthiest corporation on Earth has guaranteed the funds necessary to build Zero Dawn, exactly as I’ve designed it. Or don’t sign - and I will make sure they and everyone else on this planet knows the real cause of the glitch.”

I’ve probably listened to this recording fifty-or-so times but I never really thought much about it.  Then after the big reveal of the main antagonist in and completing “Frozen Wilds”, suddenly something clicked in my head:

History repeated itself in how things went off the rails.

Now I’m not going to hazard a guess as to why because I don’t think I’ve got enough info to make a Tinfoil Hat Theory based on it, but maybe other H:ZD nerds can fill in info I might have missed and we can work to come up with some potential theories.

No spoilers but now that I'm playing Horizon: Forbidden West, I'm thinking about this post from four years ago a lot right now. Kind of hope to write an update on it with answers to the questions I had listed there.

alright alright as promised, the soul eater au doodles from yesterday

also, some info:

  • Alastor and Angel have both had partners prior to each other; Alastor’s old meister died in a battle with a witch, while Angel dumped his old weapon (Travis). They didn’t have a choice but to partner up, which leads to several disagreements and fights.
  • Angel’s soul is extremely flexible and he can match wave lengths easily with nearly everyone, which does make Alastor easier to wield. However there are times where they’re still extremely out of sync just because their souls are so different.
  • Alastor is a multiform weapon that can transform into basically every weapon we’ve seen Angel wield thus far.
  • Despite their constant bickering Alastor still has that “I am more than willing to give my life for my meister” mentality (possibly due to the loss of his previous meister?). Angel is, for the most part, very loyal to Alastor and, despite being able to wield most weapons in theory, stays with Alastor.
  • Angel takes the Soul/Black Star soul with his recklessness, stubbornness, and at times, selfish behavior. He rushes in without a plan. Alastor, meanwhile, has more of a Maka/Tsubaki role, where he’s level headed, likes to think ahead, and tries to take the lead to avoid the usual chaos that ensues when Angel (literally) shoots first and asks questions later.
  • Cherri and Angel have a very Soul/Black Star friendship. We’re still working on whether or not Cherri is a weapon.
  • We have agreed that Molly (as far as I’m aware) IS a weapon. She’s a shield, and believes that because she and Angel are opposites (Angel, a meister, and her, a weapon) they were literally made to be partners. This belief only grows stronger as they age and Angel becomes more and more reckless. She believes it’s her job to protect Angel. Despite this, they can’t match soul wavelengths.
  • Vaggie is a spear meister and Charlie is her weapon partner.
  • Charlie and Vaggie are the most exceptional students at the Academy. They get along well, are seemingly always synced, seem to never even disagree, etc. They’re literally the opposite to Angel and Alastor’s constant bickering. I like to imagine Angel respects their team work and partnership, even envies it a little. I also like to imagine Angel and Alastor consider Charlie and Vaggie their rivals.
  • VALENTINO IS NOT STEIN I REPEAT NOT STEIN!!! He was just a place holder for the screen shot.
  • uuuh more to come i’m sure

something possessed me to make this gif last night and i stayed up all night on a work night so yall best appreciate it

rewatching generator rex is like. do you ever think about how white knight and six have been close friends with deep trust for a pretty long time despite the fact that their first meeting was wk attempting to kill six, and they’re both mercenaries, and none of the other numbers ever have semi-permanent teams. one kept six low on the rankings despite his skill and it’s heavily implied it’s because six forms close bonds and can’t kill those people when push comes to shove. wk knows six’s birthday despite him being. yknow. six. wk’s literally in love with six. they were both just a duo of very rowdy mercenaries from the way wk acted in promises, promises and six in six minus six

but things are slowly deteriorating by the time of promises, promises, because six hasn’t told wk that his mentor has gone evo and wk’s unintentionally hurting him by saying that evos are beyond help. that’s probably why they joined providence in the first place, with wk tagging along. and in providence they have their own providence assault vehicle that wk named, and other agents call six “wk’s boy”, which is. yknow.

during promises, promises, six reasons that wk won’t listen to siding with an evo and then wk overhears him talking about ditching him for two people he’s just met. then six brushes off his concerns after. in wk’s pov that’s an incredible act of betrayal since he doesn’t understand why six would be so fixated on an immediate cure. after that, six seems to be reflecting on what he’s done by looking at the tanto wk gifted him, and then unsheathing it and seeing for the first time that the blade has the bushido symbol of loyalty representing their fates being on the same path literally right on it.

and even after the complete breakdown of communications and them fighting to incapacitate, if not kill, the other, wk still is completely and instantly willing to sacrifice his own life so six would live at the end of the day, and six is still trying to save him from the chamber

AND after that and wk is stuck in a figurehead position that he’s completely unprepared for, separated from other people physically and by status (and it seemed like he liked hanging out beforehand), it’s clear from the show that wk STILL looks to six for advice, like when rex makes a suggestion on what to do (in gravity?), wk briefly looks at six’s expression before answering. six still holds the birthday gift he got from wk in high regard, enough to gift a copy to rex and say it still represents deep bonds (although if rex shows it off in front of wk and six never told wk about making another one. wk might think six regifted it. oops!)

So there’s this seal rehabilitation center I like to watch the livestream of from time to time. This morning was pool cleaning day, the day they weigh the rescue seals and photograph them to keep track of their rehabilitation progress as a sudden change in weight is a serious health indicator among other things. The box helps keep them on the scale as, otherwise, you cannot weigh bouncy boys.

Image

This seal was having NONE OF IT. One of the workers was attempting to get the seal to turn so they could get a photo of its side. (They are not hitting the seal, at most she is giving him a little shove in the direction it needs to turn.) HE DID NOT LIKE BEING TOUCHED WITH THE SQUEEGEE.

Image

He did NOT like his photo being taken!

Image

As soon as they took the box to weigh one of the other seals HE STOLE THE FRIGGIN’ SQUEEGEE!!!

It’s a pool-cleaning day at the rehab center, and you are an angery seal.

Potentially unpopular headcanon:

The Azmuth of the original timeline really did try to help Malware but each simulated attempt only uncovered more complications, dragging out the process longer and longer. It didn't help that he had responsibilities to his people as well. Malware thought he didn't care but in reality Azmuth wanted to come up with a solution that wasn't likely to kill him. He'd already made so many mistakes in his life where attempts to do something good backfired spectacularly and he wanted to at least heal Malware properly. Unfortunately, when forced to choose between the genocide of his people and his ailing son, he had to choose his people.

Azmuth might be a leader of his people, but he feels like he belongs in the Null Void or back in solitary confinement on Xenon. In some ways, being in charge is a far worse prison than either.

Ben and Azmuth headcanons

It’s my city now and I say, strong but still sassy bond between Ben and Azmuth

- Azmuth initially hadn’t cared who got the Omnitrix. He was angry and afraid of repercussions by the time he finished it. He handed it off and hoped to never see it again, until an angry 10 year busted down his door on his hidden planet. He was willing to let the universe be destroyed out of bitterness and shame for what he had created. Until Ben shouted at him words that changed his perspective, his life and he realized hope did still exist. He saved the universe that day bc a child made him see there was still good.

- He did actually try and remove the watch, early requests for Ben to visit for supposed tuning and upgrades were actually attempts to separate the boy from the Omnitrix. It wasn’t out of malice, he fully intended to give it back but he wanted Ben trained first, give him breathing room without constant attack. It frightened him that all his overrides could not remove the watch. He swore never to tell anyone out of fear of what Ben might become. (He later dropped these fears but still didn’t tell him bc threatening to remove the Omnitrix was always an effective threat when Ben was being particularly stupid)

- Ben is actually very respectful to Azmuth, in his own way. He unconsciously talks quieter around him and avoids towering over the tiny Galvan. But Ben very much does not let Azmuth’s genius or reputation allow him to get away with being dismissive or a jerk. Azmuth too does not let being The Ben 10 get to Ben’s head. They both had to earn each other trust and respect. Both he and Ben do not like being fawned over.

- Ben is both a distraction and a source of inspiration when he visits. He asks annoying questions and fiddles with things he shouldn’t. But he brings in a perspective Azmuth would never think of and, by explaining and answering questions, Azmuth often comes to a solution. Ben is not blindingly intelligent but he’s good at seeing patterns and the big picture where Azmuth can be narrowminded.

- The amount of safety features Azmuth has added to Omnitrix over the years is downright ridiculous. His assistants, Myaxx in particular, like to tease him about it. Ben is functionally immortal at this point bc of all the back ups and fail safes Azmuth has put into the watch to keep him safe. Still knowing this, he has a small screen of Ben’s vitals running at all times in the background.

- If asked who Ben trusts most he would say Max or Gwen but a lot of times he thinks it’s Azmuth. He feels his family are too close to view his actions objectively and has called up the Galvan at all sorts of hours for an honest opinion. His mentor will respond back bluntly, sometimes harshly but usually, in the end, assure Ben and say that his worry over the situation means he is still worthy.

-Azmuth hates being carried by larger species, it’s demeaning not to mention uncomfortable. It took a long while for Ben to learn how to properly pick up a Galvan but now Azmuth will not allow anyone but the Omnitrix wielder to pick him up. “I trained him how to do it” “I need to be close at hand in case he messes with the device” he says as he stands perfectly at ease in Ben’s hands. Holding Azmuth is a guaranteed way to make Ben stand still.

- Has acquired more and more human sized objects over the years. Folding chairs became couches, tiny cups became Earth imported foods and drinks. Azmuth has some old clothes of Ben’s stuffed away somewhere, in case he needs it not really realizing Ben has outgrown most of them. Despite the couch, Ben still spends most of his time on the floor near Azmuth.

- Azmuth was initially perturbed by the idea of Ben growing up. While he moaned and complained about having a child have his creation, actually watching Ben grow was bittersweet in a way. He grew taller, his style changed, his voice deepened and Azmuth watched more shadows grow in his eyes as his responsibilities grew. He’s relieved Ben kept his humor and good heart through a tumultuous childhood.

- They are hidden away in secret but Azmuth actually has lots of pictures of ben saved on his computers. He looks at them sometimes, when he’s lonely, when he’s stumped on a project, when he’s losing faith in the universe. He sees pictures of Ben grinning, new and old and realizes hope will always be alive so long as Ben Tennyson is.
