to be clear it is normal to be sore/have some pain if you’re doing high stress stuff like long runs, exercising, heavy lifting, etc etc. but if you’re in pain because you Walked or Stood Up. that’s not how your body is supposed to work.

And then if that wasn't gay enough it gives Sulu a gun, murders McCoy, has Kirk wrestle with an adversary from the academy (while Spock watches), Kirk and Spock run away from a plane and won't stop grabbing each other, un-murders McCoy, reveals that the planet was manifesting people's deepest desires, and rolls credits

Horrible fact of the day: Chevron just released a new boat fuel that WILL give you cancer.

Not "might", not "could", WILL. It has a cancer ratio of 1:1, as in, in a group of 10 people, ALL 10 would contract CANCER.

The EPA's safety limit is 1:1,000,000 as in 1 in a million people get cancer.

The EPA approved it anyways. I am not joking. The EPA approved a boat fuel that has a near 100% chance of giving someone cancer. It has such a good chance of giving someone cancer that if you DIDN'T get cancer YOU WOULD BE AN OUTLIER.

Fuck the oil industries.

I'm not even remotely kidding when I say the public needs to start killing these people. They're unapologetically doing it to us. It's even worse than it sounds: the ratio is actually such that for every 10 people sampled, 13 people are expected to get cancer. And it's exposure to the fumes of the modified fuel that causes the illness. There is no reliable way to safely be in the same atmosphere as these boats. This is omnicidal — suicidal and murderous both.

The pollutant persists in seawater and bioaccumulates in animals we use as food. Eating anything from contaminated waters is also an extremely high cancer ratio. It is a plastic derivative, and does not get broken down in typical Earth conditions. Chevron is trying to pretend that this is "good for the environment" because it will let them dilute fuel and stretch out the stocks longer. Plastic cancer gas in the wind and in the seafood is good for the environment, claim oil companies that will burn and sell even more petrofuel.

Scientists and researchers are very aware of the risks. That's why we have these numbers. Scientists working for the corporations developed this fuel and handed it over to their masters for their paychecks. Other scientists fact-checked them and raised alarms, which were ignored. Then political careerists and corporate officials made their deals and skipped over some regulations so it can go to market.

There is no system of peaceful regulation that will stop these people from choosing profit and luxury over your life. They won't even choose their own lives and their own futures over today's luxury and the promise that Line Will Go Up. There is no space for long term thinking in the capitalist mindset. There is no room for life.

There is only death.

They should be made to reap what they sow.

the only good news here is that it seems congress members are disturbed by whatever is clearly going on behind closed doors and the blatant falsification of data in the consent document. if you live in the united states, check which committees your congressmen/senator work in. if it's anything even peripherally related to the environment or the EPA, GET THEM ON THE PHONE. spam them with emails. be as annoying as humanly possible. nothing has gone into production yet, but it will, and when it does, be aware that the cancer risk for just eating contaminated fish is 7%. that's fucking insane. and a lot of that fish is caught, frozen, and sold commercially. don't think you're safe if you're inland.

Here's a petition you can sign against it, but absolutely still harass your congressmen over this!

the heat of the fire draws air straight up from the center over the fire. This draws the air in from the sides in a circle around the fire creating an air current, which means air is being blown toward the fire from all sides. When you sit on one side of the fire, it blocks some of the air moving toward the fire from that side. Now there is more air being blown toward the fire from the side opposite you. This pushes the smoke your direction. When you move to the other side, it just makes the same thing happen over there. The smoke actually literally does follow you around no matter where you sit. Because physics.

So Spock may have willingly entered into an engagement with T’Pring, ok. And he may have had his little puppy love with Chapel, sure, sure. But who was the one in his locket? The locket so important, he was still wearing it by the time he flew the Jellyfish to Romulus’ supernova? Who was the one Spock dedicated the book of his life to? Who did he love so deeply, he couldn’t find the words to write about? To whom does Spock profess that he has always and ever shall be theirs? Who gave him that simple feeling?

I mean c’mon now

This is actually a really hopeful way of looking at it.

Not to Spirk on main, but I think the dichotomy of Spock trying to mold himself into the perfect Vulcan for T’Pring and forcing himself to be more “human” for Chapel proves that he doesn’t belong with either of them. The point of Spock has never been about cleansing himself of emotions, OR releasing that secret inner human that doesn’t exist. The point has always been for Spock to be comfortable that he doesn’t fit neatly in either box; he’s just Spock. He needs someone who makes him feel okay just being himself. And that has always historically been Kirk.

So my mom has been in the hospital in unbelievable pain all week and I'm like. What if I got people to read her smutty books. And she gets out of the hospital to hit like thousands of reads on Kindle

The problems with this plan;

Hot take: "this piece of fiction offended me, a marginalised person" doesn't mean "this piece of fiction inherently contributes to dehumanisation of marginalised people". Different people experience oppression and marginalisation differently. What's dehumanising for one person can be validating and empowering for other. Tropes one person find offensive could be a reflection of other person's lived experience.

For example, some gay men feel objectified by BL works but some other gay men actually enjoy BL, identify as fudanshi (male fans of BL) and relate to BL characters.

Some women hate "damsel in distress" trope, other women feel validated looking at a fictional woman whose value is not tied to her achievements, who is important and worth risking lives for her regardless of what she can or can't do.

Some abuse survivors believe any fictional depiction of abuse that's not all pain and suffering is romanticising it. Other abuse survivors such as myself experienced pain and suffering mixed with happy moments, genuine romantic feelings and great sex so "romanticised" abuse in fiction is an actual representation of my experience.

Please remember that your mileage may vary and being a marginalised person is not an excuse to advocate for censorship of all fiction you find offensive.

TOS fans, you may want to read this comic series!

Sooo I recently read this series of comics called Star Trek: Year Five, published in 2019-2021 by IDW Publishing; I heard it was good, but I didn't expect it to be that good!

If you haven't read it, I suggest to check it out! (it's also not hard to find it if you get what I mean)

The art overall is great and, more importantly, the characters act like themselves and there are several references to their canon backgrounds, past and future experiences! What I absolutely loved was also seeing a lot of "old faces" from TOS show, as well as mentions of events from the series and the movies.

As the title suggests, the story takes place during the last year of Kirk's five-year mission on the Enterprise. I'd like to tell you more, but I enjoyed the surprise of a lot of things I didn't expect, so first of all I'll post a few pics without major spoilers from the first 11 issues (there are 25, so you still have a lot to discover!):

I especially love how Bones and Sulu are drawn, they really look like them! Scotty and Uhura too, but that depends on the artist. Speaking of them, if you like a little Scotty/Uhura, this series has something good about it!

The joke about Kirk thinking there's something strange with the way the Klingons look now cracked me up. LOL

Also, I'm not sure Chapel would call McCoy "Bones", but she is very right in that panel. :)

The last panel is classical James T. Kirk's ass appreciation lol

Sulu has a love story with an alien who doesn't understand human genders and uses they/them pronouns. As someone who headcanons TOS Sulu as attracted to any gender, that was great to see :D

I'm also posting this "end-of-the-episode" panel because it's just perfection. TOS in a nutshell. Aww, look at Kirk and Spock just looking at each other! <3

I must say, you may be a little disappointed if you expect to see many moments with Kirk and Spock together, BUT the scenes they have together are really good! I won't say anything more, just read until the end and you'll see! :D

By the way, this series has a Valentine's Day extra, which is the only part where Kirk has a love interest (a female original character). Yeah, you heard me: in the main story, Kirk doesn't have new romances with anyone; Sulu is the one who gets all the action! ;)

The Valentine's Day issue is not linked to anything else and I don't think Kirk's female love interest is mentioned outside that story, so you can easily skip it if it's not for you. However, even if I can't say I'm especially happy with that story, I personally found something interesting there, for example this:

I think I saw this out of context once, but I didn't know where it was from, so sorry I'm just going to lose my mind thinking about ladies or GENTLEMEN in Kirk's life and Kirk not correcting her about his sexual preferences. Anyway, I might make a separate post someday about this special from a Kirk/Spock shipper's perspective, because I do have a lot of thoughts about it :)

So, if you haven't read Star Trek: Year Five, I hope I convinced you to check it out! I hadn't been lucky with other Star Trek comics before, so I had almost lost hope to find something good… and then here it was! Something that made me feel like it was really written with a lot of love for The Original Series! I really needed it!
