Yet another bloody poet

@cubicdoor

Too lazy to clean my blog up, moving my actual poetry to @yetanotherbloodypoet

My goal on Tumblr is to get all the Balkanites as my mutuals one by one, but if this one very specific person follows me, I'm legally obligated to delete my account as per a bet with my friend. Let the games begin!

I think people would armchair diagnose bad people with cluster B disorders much less if psychiatric disorders hadn't all been given names by ableists who of course picked the traits most unberarable to "sane" people to name them rather than, you know, the ways it affects the people that have them. It's like, when doctors are all "this disorder gives you extremely low self esteem. and it's called the Selfish Fucking Asshole Disorder" or "this disorder makes you want to die so bad. and it's called the Hysteric Bitch Disorder" or "this disorder disconnects you from your peers. and it's called the Insane Evil Cunt Disorder" and so on and so forth, so of course you have people going "oh, this person is a selfish fucking asshole, they MUST have Selfish Fucking Asshole Disorder! this further proves that all people with this disorder are like that in the first place!" Do You See It

Influencers sell products. They are commercials. Not your friends. They sell themselves, they sell an image, they lie about themselves to sell more. They pretend to live a certain way to sell more. They are not your friends. And they certainly do not sell you the products they believe are good for you, just the ones they get paid for the most.

Individuality that influencers have is the part of the commercial. It's why the "hippie" van life influencers sell different products then the LA girlboss ones.

Individuality is a product. It's what they use to sell you stuff and it's everything from jewellery to skincare, to soap to shoes, to home decor, baby clothes, pet care products, everything.

Be aware of it, be aware that these people are just selling you shit and don't interact with them. Let them die out.

Fuck it my blog is pro-psych, just pro-reform.

Psych Critical if you will.

I am quite literally fucking exhausted by the amounts of (typically low support needs) NDs who go around talking about how there should be "no more psychiatry" and "no more psychology" and we should "abolish the DSM" and "abolish psychiatric/psychological care". How about actually- fuck you? How about that because you want me to fucking die- you want to kill off NDs with higher support needs who rely on doctors to be able to stay alive and not be in danger.

No I don't want to abolish psychiatry because not only do I need my medications but I am logistically opposed to people just randomly being able to get whatever medication they want because they self diagnosed themselves with something. If you haven't taken a psychiatric med you had a horrible reaction to- you're lucky, If you have the wrong combination or take one your personal body doesn't like you can experience psychosis, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, hallucination based psychosis, etc. No the public should not get to dictate what medication they get because people are not educated enough to know if they will cause adverse effects when mixed.

No I don't want to abolish psychology just because one of our past therapists abused us and groomed us as a kid. Sometimes bad people are in places of power. Our good therapists have helped us immensely. Our life has improved drastically since we've been seeing a specific therapist for our DID. We've been able to function better we've been able to feel some happiness in the midst of the horrific memories we have uncovered.

I think all this healthcare should continue. I think however it should be free- and it should be possible and easy for even minors to refuse certain types of treatment if they personally want. However anti-psych seeks not to reform the issues- but to destroy the support networks so many rely on. It is not about people's freedom to choose- it is about forcing others out of a system that may very well be the only thing keeping them going.

Instead of "live laugh love" or "home is where the heart is" my (wonderful, progressive, very accepting) dad put up the racism sign in the foyer

whats the racism sign?

The racism sign, as I like to call it, is from an art piece I made halfway through my first semester of art school:

It reads "any attempted theft will be reported to the police" in the 15 most commonly spoken languages by immigrants here other than English or other western european languages (in descending order).

This sign was only half of the art piece, the other half was the most stereotypically Icelandic painting I could think of:

When the piece was shown the painting and the sign were hung on opposite sides of the room, making the sign more of an afterthought for those who don't speak any of the languages written on the sign. Standing out just enough for them to notice it and maybe wonder what it said, but ultimately not giving it a second thought for the most part.

I wanted to highlight one of the most common ways racism and xenophobia present themselves here as well as the comfort of ignorance. The sign doesn't cater to you, you ignore it it, and you don't care what it might say. You don't have to think about it because it doesn't affect you.

For those who can read the sign though, or bother to translate it, this is just yet another reminder of people's ignorance and double standards. My inspiration for this piece came from my old workplace, where they had this sign hanging on one of the doors:

The main things that stood out about this to me were that

  1. It was the only sign on the premises written in anything other than Icelandic and/or English
  2. All of the additional languages (Vietnamese, Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian) specifically targeted minority groups that already face discrimination here
  3. The location of the sign. We only had 1 of these, and they chose to put it up somewhere where only staff would see it rather than the customers. In fact, it was right next to the break room so you had to walk past it every time you went on break. And it was a sign reminding people not to steal. Big win for inclusivity here

People love saying that we're not racist/xenophobic here even though we very much are. The problem is just that so many people don't take the time to look when it doesn't directly affect them. I was very happy with my piece because people actually came up to me and asked what the sign said because they wanted to know, it started a conversation and made those previously unaware of this issue more aware. I wonder if these sorts of signs would be anywhere near as commonplace as they are if more people looked at them critically and asked "why is this the thing we bother translating?"

Anyway, all that aside I love my dad and I like the way this art piece turned out but also I am slightly worried about giving people the wrong idea when this is the first thing they see when they enter our home 💀

with great regret i must inform you that there is a typo in the Latvian translation, so it actually says “any attempted theft will be reported to poland”

I found out while working on this that it is extremely difficult to get 15 fully accurate translations into languages you don't speak in the span of a week but this is killing me 💀
