Alex, Patron Saint of Hairdressers.

[ID: A series of four sketchy illustrations, recounting tumblr user @cryptidfuckery's trip to the ER, as per quotes provided in this poll (link), in black and white with canary yellow, hospital blue and blood red accents

The first illustration shows Alex in a saint-like posture, facing up and arms crossed in front on them, showing the back of their hands to the viewer. Their right hand is holding a pair of hairdressing shears and on their left hand, a bit of their knuckle has been snipped off and bleeds. Their head is circled by a yellow halo: the background inside it is red, and the outside, black. Along the halo's curve are two mirrored combs. They are wearing a black single-use mask where one can read "Hazzards of the job" in yellow letters.

The second illustration shows them sitting in front of the ER doctor, who is taking their blood pressure. It is divided in two sketches: in the first one, both the characters are looking at the reading, indicating "140". There are two ellipsis over the drawing, indicating the shared silence. In the second one, they look at each other as Alex says "I've been a little stressed." with a toothy grin visible through their mask. Through her mask, the doctor too smiles sheepishly.

The third illustration, also divided in two drawings, shows the same doctor wiping blood off Alex's hand with sterile gauze and physiologic serum. The first drawing is a close-up of the hands, Alex's being gently held up by working gloved hands. Surgical scissors and other first aid tools are present. The second drawing shows a larger picture, with both characters sitting across from each other at a table, the doctor looking down in concentration and Alex smiling still, posture relaxed and commenting "It's like a manicure." The text is accompanied with sparkles and blood drops.

The fourth and last illustration is composed of two close-ups on the wounded hand, while being stitched. We first see the snipped finger's profile as the second stitch is secured and the black medical thread is cut. "It looks like a fucked up present", Alex says "or rather..." taking the viewer to a drawing of their hand, all five stitches now done. Black threads stick up from the closed wound, "yeah," we read "It's like a little spider." Along the spider-like stitching job, three little spiders walk on the finger, not bigger than a nail.

Two things I haven't yet seen anyone discuss about Nimona:

  1. For a thousand years, the kingdom was protecting against something that not only wasn't a threat, but that lived within their city that whole time. They didn't know she was there, of course, but she was. They built a wall to keep the monsters out, but the one who was there at the beginning was inside the wall the whole time. Kind of like how queer people have been here the whole time, just living their lives and quietly existing.
  2. The kingdom is terrified of what's beyond the wall. All of them are. The director talks about how she has a recurring dream about the wall failing and the monsters flooding in. And then the wall gets broken down, and..... there's no monsters beyond the wall. There's just lush rolling hills and a winding river. They cut themselves off from the rest of the world for a millennia, but the monsters they feared so terribly weren't even out there.

the catholic old white guy asked me to explain lgbtq+ to him and it was honestly kind of funny

“okay! you have 15 seconds to explain non-binary to me if there are only male and female genders”

me: if you lost your genitals would you still feel like a man?

“no”

would you feel like a woman?

“no?”

so you wouldn’t feel male or female

“yeah what’s your point?”

So, you wouldn’t fit into the gender binary of male or female? :)

him:

“so non-binary just means not feeling male or female?”

Yeah basically

“so why do they use “they” so much”?

if you were a woman would you want to be called a man?

“no…”

And the opposite?

“no…”

Why why would you want someone to call you male or female if you’re not male or female then?”

it’s not a perfect way of thinking but i had 15 seconds and i think it got the point across

Researcher and doctorate @NoraEpstein on Twitter just posted a video of the new tattoo she got commemorating her PhD.

And… she footnoted the artwork, with a literal footnote 😂 I love this so much

One time I was at the mall with my grandfather and we met an employee who was a 6'2 woman. He later told me "Boy! 6'2! She must have to fight wannabe suitors off with a sword." and I realized with a start that my thing for tall women was genetic

Lin Manuel Miranda at the doctor's office:

Please sir is there anything you can do for me

I have this terrible stomach ache and it's fucking killing me

I ate a weird bug I thought it was candy

But now I'll go to heaven and not even say goodbye to my family

The doctor: dude shut up already

WHAT!!!!

No

They can leap 36 feet

As in leap forward 36 feet

They don’t jump 36 feet into the fucking sky do you know how terrifying that would be the human race wouldn’t have survived because we’d have all had heart attacks while still in Africa

This is one of those legendary posts that’s been around since I first made a Tumblr. When I didn’t have access to my Tumblr for a few years I would sometimes reference this post. Iconic lol

99.99% of rap haters have never even listened to rap. or if they have it's like one gangsta rap song & they treat the genre as a monolith and act like it's representative of every rap song ever. and well of course they are also just racist

first & last line still stand even if rap was a monolith and all rap was gangsta rap. btw

Rap is great! Everyone knows the worst genre of music is country

99.99% of country haters have never even listened to country. or if they have it's like one post-9/11 pop country song by a rich poser & they treat the genre as a monolith and act like it's representative of every country song ever. and well of course they are also just classist
