All lives matter, and why this is nonsense

A lot of people seem to still be saying “all lives matter,” and some of them seem genuinely perplexed as to why this sometimes offends black people. Here’s a rundown. “All lives matter” is commonly used by people who don’t want to hear about black people’s issues. Black people don’t get upset by the inherent truth of the statement but by the dismissal that it clearly implies. It’s the same thing if I were to try and raise awareness around cancer and you just told me that “all diseases matter.” It’s not some philosophical checkmate argument, it’s just dodging a topic you’re not comfortable with. All lives matter, but not all lives are on the US new all the time as the subject of police brutality and unwarranted fatal shootings. "Black lives matter" became a thing because of that inequality. To bring it back to “all lives matter” now insinuates that there is no inequality, no need for that movement, and that implication is ignorant and offensive.
