after inputting some complex algorithms into my super computer i’ve determined what tumblr will look like in the year 2020

i love how this comes back after every shitty update staff makes

maybe reblog this or something so they can see and its an actual good sample of general opinion?

because i hate it. too much going on. not good for desktop users, and i cant fucking see my dash. i also saw another post that says that this is literally just like Instagram and all other social media sites so if they are trying to be unique then it isn't working.

i at least want a way to go back to regular tumblr.

some blogs i follow for fan content but others i am 100% just there for the person so when theyre like oh sorry for turning into a so-and-so blog im like. i would watch you liveblog the phonebook.

I remember someone saying "mad scientists in fiction aren't scientists because there's never a control group"

I think if you've created an elixir that turns people into goat men you have sort have gone past the need for a control group. The control group is not going to placebo themselves into goat men. You can probably not run the control group, and safely assume that none of them would have turned into goat men. That said, having a control group for that would make the mad scientist seem extra crazy and be really really funny, especially if he was carefully testing them for goat like features from the dyed water they drank instead of the elixir

[ image description: two sets of screenshotted tags in different colours ]

#the real question is why arent any of them running it double blind #what if those guys are just turning into goatmen bc they know the mad scientists reeeeaaaaallly want them to

#it's also a question of sample size #if you turn one person into a goatman you might THINK you have an elixir that turns someone into a goatman #but make that a 75 person trial and suddenly you realize it's an elixir that turns you into your ideal body #and that one person was just a guy with a fursona and a dream

Time to feed unprofessional managers what they’ve been dishing out for far too long.

Couple things here, for when you do this to people:

1. if you get the “answer my call” text, NEVER ANSWER THE CALL

They are calling you because they want to have the conversation verbally, and be able to lie later about what they said or didn’t say. Force them to continue via text or email- force them to continue the conversation in writing or not at all.

2. “Lack of 2 weeks notice is unprofessional!” or the other version, “Not providing notice is illegal!”

No it isn’t. Neither is true.

And in the US, all states except Montana are “at will” employment (though you may hear an employer refer to it as “right to work” to make it sound better, it’s the same thing). Sure, at-will employment means they can fire you without cause, BUT! It also means that you are not legally required to give a reason for quitting, or to give notice of any kind.

Is it polite to give notice when you can? Sure. Do bosses expect it? Absolutely. But that does not make you legally required to provide it.

3. The only thing I would change in the worker’s interaction here was their response when initially asked to come in.

Employee: “Hey Mark. Sorry I’m unable to cover the shift tonight because I’m studying for my exam tomorrow.”

Don’t give a reason for your lack of availability. It may be tempting to. You may feel rude if you don’t.

DON’T DO IT.

You do not owe your boss any information about what you do off the clock, and any reason you give will only ever be used against you.

Boss: “Hey I need you to cover Jasper’s shift tonight.”
Employee: “Sorry, I’m not available.”

And leave it at that.

Do not elaborate.

Do not offer additional information.

When you boss asks you to elaborate, because they will, be polite but firm. “With respect, that’s personal. I’m sorry, but I’m unavailable to cover this shift/work late/come in early/etc.”

Be a broken record- you’re unavailable. That’s the only information they need to know, and it’s the only information they have a LEGAL RIGHT to know.

Please stop giving your bosses information they don’t need to know and don’t get to have, because they’re only going to try and use it to fuck you over later.

Allow me to elucidate, @a-sour-nectarine

When most people "roll their eyes", they flick their eyes directly upward, usually as far as they comfortably go, then resume looking normally.

When someone who learned the phrase before the behavior does it, they usually go in a circular (ish) motion. Since most eye movements are lines, it's usually pretty triangular: the key points are usually a diagonal up one way, then to the far other side, then to a diagonal low the first way. Thus, the eyes basically make a loop, so they "rolled".

I've found that when people who learned the up-down way first try the circular motion, they might risk motion sickness, so experiment carefully.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN MOST PEOPLE JUST LOOK UP

Let's for a moment forget the obvious answer of where the pain would be in like, everywhere but the leg.

Actually, you will most certainly feel the pain IN THE LEG long after it is gone and the stump of your thigh heals. Though I doubt OP knew that phantom pains were a thing or did not at least have them in mind at the time they made this post.

Severed limbs hurt for years after amputation. Or so I've heard.

Can you imagine a pain or an itch that can not be treated because the injury no longer exists?

why the hell are you here

isnt it obvious? she's here to let everyone know some interesting details about amputations. so lets all be respectful and listen to what she has to say ok?

oh yeah you're right, my bad

Reblogging again because I just realized that if I had this advice in high school I would’ve never made a tumblr account.

Also works for most of those news sites like WSJ or NYT that only let you read a little bit, or block adblockers. Also some disable the scroll bar but if you go to the right side of the console after hitting F12 and look for the CSS element “overflow” and change it from “hidden” to “visible” then you can continue scrolling for free. Might have to click around on different parts of the page to find it, but it should work.

There’s also a Firefox/Chrome extension called Behind The Overlay that does all that with one mouse click. Used it for years; what a time saver.

And if you encounter a true paywall, use Archive.Today to bypass it. Just paste the paywalled url into the blue “search archived snapshots” box near the bottom:

"All your tests/labs came back clear! Isn't that great?"

American healtcare is a business, and you are the customer. Here's something you can say:

"It's great that we ruled out X, Y, and Z with these tests. However, I'm still having these symptoms, and they're effecting my daily life in these specific ways. So what's next on your list of differential diagnoses?"

And if that doesn't get you anywhere, you can say something like:

"Okay, we've ruled out all of the common causes for my symptoms. So when do we start exploring more rare explanations?"

And if that still gets you nowhere, you're going to document their refusal to do further testing in your chart, because they don't want to have to put that in writing. Keep going, you're worth it. I love you, mean.
