For those of you watching the death spiral of Twitter in real time THIS IS WHY us fandom olds always defend AO3 and it’s donation drives.

Twitter is an incalculable loss for artistic expression, news, and so many other facets I can’t even begin to count.

This sort of loss of information is impossible with AO3 and how it’s set-up. Obviously an AO3 style model isn’t sustainable for every site bc the moment images get involved the server costs skyrocket exponentially, but now more than ever the theory applies.

AO3 is an archive of our own, donators have direct say via vote about what happens to the site, you help shape it.

As long as AO3 has donation drives and doesn’t rely on advertisers it will remain around as a foremost place of art and freedom of expression. What happened to Twitter can’t happen to AO3 as it currently exists. And that is why we fight tooth and nail to protect AO3 from corporate interests and out of touch billionaires like Musk.

I hate that Twitter is dying and that anyone has to experience it, but please learn from this experience!

Truth!

The U.S. Supreme Court appears set to deliver on another longstanding conservative policy goal in its first major labor law case this term, with a ruling that could hobble workers’ right to strike, amid a resurgence of worker organizing and a cost-of-living crisis.

Someone get this circulated to Elon Musk.

amid the celebrations about the queen probably dying soon, we need to remember how this will negatively affect the country. there will be millions spent on a funeral and charles’s coronation while we are in the middle of a severe economic crisis and working class families are having to choose between heating and food. it will take attention away from all the important politics and parliament may be suspended. all news and television will be about her death and her reign — it’s been said that comedy programmes will be cancelled for potentially up to a fortnight out of ‘respect’.

yes, celebrate this news. but her death does not erase the fact that the monarchy exists, and it will be a spit in the face for working people when the money we all so desperately need is spent on her and the rest of her family

Sick sick sick of possibility of being fucking recorded every waking second by tiktok obsessed quasi celebs. Video titled something like "Caught him thinking he's the main character" but it was just a kid wearing headphones, looking out the bus window. Of course it was posted without his knowledge. Stop recording strangers and everything you see, nobody gives a shit and not everyone is happy to be on tiktok or youtube because of a moron with no braincells and an account. What could be a forgettable awkward moment is now permanently there for the victim of lackabrainis infested idiot to get anxious about forever.

Okay, this seems like a relevant thing to share today: I've been in this position. Back in college while on that student lifestyle, I somehow ended up with a pretty bad iron deficiency. How bad? I was not only sleeping too much, I was falling asleep everywhere -- in class, in the library, in cafes five minutes after drinking coffee. It was terrible. Anyway, during a class I enjoyed, I was sat at a table with a few classmates, and I started falling asleep while taking notes; nodding off, dropping my pen, startling awake and falling asleep again, until my head was on the table. No one seemed to mind, we were all going through it I guess, and my lecturer was nice enough not to make a big deal out of it.

Cut to the next day and I was in the Students Union, when a friend came up to me and told me how funny that video was of me falling asleep in class was. What? I asked her about it, what did she mean, who made the video, and she realised I literally had no clue about it. Kindly, she told me who to talk to and I thanked her. I was already upset, but I knew it wasn't the messenger's fault. So, I took to Facebook and messaged the girl who made the video -- a girl on my table in the class from before. I asked her about it, and she admitted it right away -- she took the video on her phone during class and posted it to her snapchat. That's how the other girl saw it, not to mention countless others.

Sorting this out was an absolute toil. I felt betrayed and violated that someone would do that while I was obviously not in a position to have any say about it. I lost friendships with the people who took the girl's side, as if it was no big deal or "funny". I had to tell the lecturer about it, because let's face it, that's a shit thing to allow to happen during class itself, the department moved to be more alert and proactive about restricting phone use in class, and all that girl had to do was give a half-hearted apology. The next semester, she was still openly using her phone in another class we had.

For a long time, I couldn't trust anyone who held their phone up around me, as if to take photos or video. It would make me so anxious and put me on edge. I never did speak to the people who cosigned her behaviour, who acted like it wasn't their problem that their bff video-recorded a person in class over their health condition without their consent.

I did eventually grow out of my anxiety around phones, and I resisted the urge to break that girl's phone, but, I will absolutely bring back that energy if I see someone record a stranger in public without their consent. Take it from someone who's been that target -- if you think it's okay, you deserve to get your shit wrecked.

Avatar

I just want to add, in case anyone reads this and isn't sure -- yes, it is absolutely fine to reblog this, and in fact I encourage you to. If testimony from a former target of this behaviour is the one thing that makes it click for anyone thinking of doing it, if it makes them reconsider before potentially ruining a stranger's life, then my experience will be worth it for me.

Don't record strangers and put that shit on the Internet or social media without their consent.

PSA for the day

Benedict found himself giving voice to feelings he’d never shared with any other living soul, not even—no, especially not his family. “To most of the world,” he said, “I’m merely a Bridgerton. I’m not Benedict or Ben or even a gentleman of means and hopefully a bit of intelligence. I’m merely"—he smiled ruefully—"a Bridgerton. Specifically, Number Two.” -An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn

“was that really necessary?”😠

“……yes”😏

DRACO IN GLASSES

Firstly, the song rec is amazing and I now need the sheet music so I can replicate.

Second, what the heck? I wake up from a catnap and I’m greeted with boss lady Hermione in a suit AND sexy glasses man Draco wearing a COAT? Sign me up. I wanna live in this artwork.

Thirdly, spy AU added to my WIP list of one-shots to write.

@lyrium-mysterium I wrote you something 😘:

TW: past mention of violence & murder.

1950s London - an alleyway, somewhere…

“You were supposed to talk to him, Draco, not interrogate him! He had every right to ask for a lawyer!”

“Hey, it’s not my fault he folded like a bloody two-bit newspaper, is it?”

Hermione glared at her partner and turned off the ignition. They sat in silence for two minutes before she sneaked another look, only to find him smiling at her with that damned movie-star smirk.

She crossed her arms. “I really hate you sometimes.”

“Granger,” he laughed, “we got the fellow to comply and we’re on to suspect two before lunchtime. By my calculations, that means this case is going to be wrapped up by the end of the week. Now, I call that a win.”

Hermione got out of the car and slammed the door. Hard.

Draco followed her, wincing. “Easy, darling, this car deserves a little bit of respect.”

He ran a hand along the bonnet of the ’45 Alfa Romeo with the soft caress of a lover and Hermione rolled her eyes.

“Don’t worry,” she dropped her gaze to adjust the gun holster strapped to her thigh, unaware that her partner was staring—captivated—with his mouth open, “if anything happens to it, I’m sure there’s enough money in the vault to fix it.”

She knew, as soon as the words has left her mouth, that it was a mistake. An old, stupid habit from years ago, when they were trainees at the Academy. Ribbing him then was easy, because he gave as good as he got. But now…

Fuck.

When Draco spoke, his voice was tight; trembling.

“You know I have nothing to do with that money anymore. His money. Not after—”

Her heart plummeted.

She looked up, grimacing at his expression.

“I’m sorry, of course not. I didn’t mean it, Draco.” One hand came to rest against his heart, the other found his jaw; her thumb brushing against his cheekbone. “I’m so sorry.”

It was difficult for Draco to be accepted by his colleagues at MI6 after they found out his father was a notorious crime boss.

It was even more difficult for Draco to do his job after the incident that had left both him and Hermione bloody and broken…all because they dared to pick up one of Lucius Malfoy’s thugs for questioning after a skirmish in Camden that left three men face-down in the street.

Hermione watched the memory of Draco’s last encounter with his father fade from his eyes. When his heartbeat stabilised, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his waist. He brought one hand up to tangle in her hair, tilting her head back so he could look at her.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “What he did to you…”

She shook her head.

“He did it to both of us, Draco. But we got through it, didn’t we?”

While they looked at each other, Hermione felt her cheeks redden. Draco’s gaze momentarily dropped to her lips before flitting back to her eyes.

They’d danced around each other for over two years now.

There were so many late nights on the job and she had seen every side of him, even the vulnerable parts he preferred to keep hidden away. She knew him to be kind, funny and brave, and he often put himself in danger to keep her safe. That he was the most handsome man she’d ever laid eyes on didn’t help, either.

It wasn’t hard to fall in love with Draco Malfoy.

And the way he looked at her, sometimes…well, she wondered if he might return her feelings.

But that was a question for another day.

“We have to go in,” she mumbled, stepping away from the overly-intimate embrace. “We’ll miss him if we leave it too late.”

Draco adjusted his glasses—his sexy goddamned glasses—and cleared his throat.

“Yes. I—yes. That’s a good idea.”

They nodded in unison.

“Okay.” Hermione looked over her shoulder. “Let’s go.”

As she turned to walk towards the pavement, she heard his following footsteps falter.

“Granger—”

“What?”

“Maybe we can get dinner tonight.”

She spun, eyebrows raised. “What are you on about? We are getting dinner.”

Fish and chips eaten in the window of the greasy spoon near Hermione’s flat were a tradition on Fridays. MI6 didn’t pay them enough for tablecloths and fine linen napkins.

She watched Draco falter, his mouth clamping shut for half a moment before he spoke again.

“There’s that Italian place that opened by the office.” He looked nervous. “We could go there.”

“Draco, what—”

I’maskingyouout,” he said, his words blurring together at the speed he spoke. “On—on a date.”

“Oh.” Hermione wondered if he could hear her heart thumping.

Draco shook his head. “But that’s only, ahem, if you’re interested in—”

“Yes!” Hermione nearly shouted. “Yes. I’m interested.” Very very very interested.

“I suppose we have to talk to this chap before we—”

“Right. Right. Good idea.”

Hermione watched him speed past her, and she followed, wondering if she had hallucinated the whole thing.

— — —

Later that night, after a lovely dinner, when Draco pushed her up against the door of her bedroom and kissed her senseless, she knew it wasn’t a dream.

Just a very, very interesting day.

Spies, you know? Crazy whirlwind lives and all that jazz.

Listen, I know it’s not much, but here is a small offering in thanks for all the wonderful art you make. ❤️💋

Do you ever think you'll stop drawing fanart? No offense it just seems like the kind of thing you're supposed to grow out of. I'm just curious what your plans/goals are since it isn't exactly an art form that people take seriously.

Ah, fanart. Also known as the art that girls make.

Sad, immature girls no one takes seriously. Girls who are taught that it’s shameful to be excited or passionate about anything, that it’s pathetic to gush about what attracts them, that it’s wrong to be a geek, that they should feel embarrassed about having a crush, that they’re not allowed to gaze or stare or wish or desire. Girls who need to grow out of it.

That’s the art you mean, right?

Because in my experience, when grown men make it, nobody calls it fanart. They just call it art. And everyone takes it very seriously.

It’s interesting though — the culture of shame surrounding adult women and fandom. Even within fandom it’s heavily internalized: unsurprisingly, mind, given that fandom is largely comprised by young girls and, unfortunately, our culture runs on ensuring young girls internalize *all* messages no matter how toxic. But here’s another way of thinking about it.

Sports is a fandom. It requires zealous attention to “seasons,” knowledge of details considered obscure to those not involved in that fandom, unbelievable amounts of merchandise, and even “fanfic” in the form of fantasy teams. But this is a masculine-coded fandom. And as such, it’s encouraged - built into our economy! Have you *seen* Dish network’s “ultimate fan” advertisements, which literally base selling of a product around the normalization of all consuming (male) obsession? Or the very existence of sports bars, built around the link between fans and community enjoyment and analysis. Sport fandom is so ingrained in our culture that major events are treated like holidays (my gym closes for the Super Bowl) — and can you imagine being laughed at for admitting you didn’t know the difference between Supernatural and The X Files the way you might if you admit you don’t know the rules of football vs baseball, or basketball?

“Fandom” is not childish but we live in a culture that commodified women’s time in such away that their hobbies have to be “frivolous,” because “mature” women’s interests are supposed to be marriage, family, and overall care taking: things that allow others to continue their own special interests, while leaving women without a space of their own.

So think about what you’re actually saying when you call someone “too old” for fandom. Because you’re suggesting they are “too old” for a consuming hobby, and I challenge you to answer — what do you think they should be doing instead?

She fixed the collar of his shirt and brushed his hair back into place.

"Your dad wants to see you smile, too."

His face transformed from pleased to thoughtful to nervous, the corners of his mouth forming a frown so quickly that Hermione pressed her finger to his nose to stop whatever was going through his head from taking root.

"Boop."

He grinned so hard his eyes closed.
