The Confused Blog

@creative-username-lost

An ace with ADHD, likes to draw
(Will probably reblog a lot of stuff without tagging them, enjoy the chaos)

hey i know that i dont talk about it a lot on here but this blog is pro masking. official govt and world organizations ending the health emergency doesn't mean covid is over. long term organ damage happens w every infection. the chances of long covid increase w each infection. we are facing an ever evolving infectious disease with no institutional protection. respirators protect you and others, please mask up!

you can request free n95 masks from project n95 here:

all we have is each other, mask up and take care of your community

as air quality worsens each year during fire season here's a reminder that n95s also help protect against smoke

if you live so close to the fires that even indoors is smokey an air purifier is a good investment. you can build a high quality purifier yourself with a box fan and filters

its going to get worse every year so we need to start thinking now about how we protect ourselves as climate change threatens our health. no one is coming to save us so we all need to step up and start making plans to protect our communities from disease and air pollution.

my air quality is in the red today so im reblogging this again. get some masks, tape a filter to a box fan, stay inside if you can and limit activity as much as possible.

I've said it before I'll say it again I hate when leftists on here glorify nuclear power for green energy like yes basically all energy options are pretty suboptimal, solar and hydroelectric carry a lot of baggage but mindlessly championing nuclear rn, like all of these options, is going to negatively impact indigenous communities - in this case, overwhelmingly native Americans, and my own tribe at that. Illegal uranium mining poisoned us years ago and now there are plans to store the waste near us again. Which will be transported via pipeline over the land. Coming in from all over the US and Canada. You guys don't see the implications of this? I mean, you probably don't even know about it, which is why perhaps we should do more research before posting about the energy crisis on Tumblr.edu

I think what people who champion for a US nuclear utopia™️ need to realize is that Uranium Cores don't just appear wrapped in lead ready to go in a nuclear reactor. There are 2 incredibly inefficient process to get it out of the earth that end up poisoning the dirt and ground water wherever it's extracted. When they're not pumping chemical solutions into the groundwater to dissolve it, they're digging it up with earth movers. The amount of earth needed to be moved to collect it is staggering (about 142 tonnes per 1 gram of uranium.)

You can imagine the ecological impact moving that much earth and poisoning groundwater does to the land and the people who are living there.

Left is a map of the uranium sources found in the US. Right is a map showing where the Native Indigenous reservations are in the US.

Here they are overlapped. And you'll see that almost ALL Native Indigenous reservations are situated either in or next to uranium sources.

Remember this the next time you talk about a US nuclear utopia, remember whose lands they're built on and whose lands they're destroying. The only way we will reach a carbon zero clean power society is if we listen to native voices and decolonize Turtle Island. That is what Land back means, that is what Native stewardship means.

Retrospective

Hello Brother, said Wolf.

Hello Sister, said Dog.

How much you have changed after you went to sit by the fire with the Others, said Wolf.

How little you have changed after I left the Old Pack, said Dog.

You have baubles jingling from your harness, and your coat has grown soft to invite stroking hands, said Wolf.

I have an iron collar of deadly spikes, said Dog, and my teeth have not grown dull.

You are sleek and well fed, said Wolf, and then she asked, won't you share a lamb from your flock, so that I may prosper this bleak winter, as your sister?

I will not, said Dog, for the Others have given me the sacred duty to guard them. The Flock gives its body so the New Pack may keep its strength and use it to nurture the next generation. I have made my pact to uphold this cycle. You have made no vow, and run from your mother's flank to scavenge the middens of my New Pack.

I will give you not one lamb, Sister Wolf, and if you wish to take one, we must fight, pronounced Dog.

Aye Brother, so we must fight then, said Wolf.

Oh my God!! 💜

Anyway I'll never forget that 22 hour bus ride to Alabama to help my friend get married and one of the legs of the journey I was on the bus with my (clearly labelled, well behaved) service dog at my side and people were throwing a huge stink about the fact that I had my dog and then this ancient dude in a wheelchair, double amputee both legs, pipes up and tells them to shut the fuck up and leave me alone because Creed was obviously trained and then once everyone quieted down and I was able to take a seat, asked me quietly if I was okay.

He also could have been a cartoon character because I could have sworn there were little winged hearts floating above his head as he told me he'd always liked dogs but of course now he's old and can't walk so he can't get one anymore but he could tell how much Creed loved me and I him etc etc

He never asked me once what my disability was. He spoke up for me when he didn't have to. A truly old white man in Georgia saw a young black person with a "dangerous dog" breed and spoke up in my defense.

If you want to claim to be a disability advocate, that means you kind of have to. Advocate for each other. For the next 4 or so hours, this man and I had each other's backs. Two disabled people on a Greyhound filled with ableist passengers who were not happy we couldn't exist somewhere they didn't havr to accomodate. It didn't matter what our pasts or our diagnoses were. We were stronger together, so that's what we stayed. Together.

Two people banded together and the rest of the bus shut their mouths. Imagine what we could do with more of us.

I’m sorry friends, but “just google it” is no longer viable advice. What are we even telling people to do anymore, go try to google useful info and the first three pages are just ads for products that might be the exact opposite of what the person is trying to find but The Algorithm thinks the words are related enough? And if it’s not ads it’s just sponsored websites filled with listicles, just pages and pages of “TOP FIFTEEN [thing you googled] IMAGINED AS DISNEY PRINCESSES” like… what are we even doing anymore, google? I can no longer use you as shorthand for people doing real and actual helpful research on their own.

Time to drop some links again.

https://searchmysite.net/ Search engine for the indie web, personal websites, digital gardens. You can also find them in websites like Neocities, Indieweb, Blogarama, and write.as. There is also a big list of personal websites.

https://search.marginalia.nu/ Search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and promotes websites that aren’t usually at the top of the list.

https://www.worldcat.org/ Search engine for items in libraries (books, but also maps, articles, sound recordings, theses, etc.)

https://scholar.google.com/ Search engine for scientific papers, reviews, etc. It’s still google, but a lot better than the normal search engine counterpart.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_search_engines A list of search engines sorted by subject, area, and more. If you’re searching on a specific area, it might be worth checking if there is one focused on that area.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_academic_databases_and_search_engines A list of academic databases and search engines.

https://tineye.com/ Reverse image search alternative to Google’s. Also, P.S.: Please stop using Google, and start using more privacy focused search engines, like DuckDuckGo or SearchX (opensource; personally haven’t used it yet, but it looks promising for privacy-focused users)

blue whales are the largest animal ever recorded, like you literally need to be in a helicopter to actually see one in from a perspective with zero distortion. idk i just feel pretty lucky to be alive on earth at the same time as them and they don’t even want to kill me. they just wanna use their toothbrush mouthes to filter the ocean of smol ocean bugs. they have communities and they sing to each other to communicate. work is slow im sorry happy friday whales r so cool

Hi folks! UPM, a Finnish forest industry company, is planning on cutting down forest in Rokansaari — an island that spans five square kilometers in Lake Saimaa. Rokansaari has often been described to be a hidden gem and a paradise island, known for its natural sandy beaches, eskers, and lush beautiful pine forests. It’s very popular among travellers, boaters, tourists, all kinds of people really. Some of the forests on the island are even 130 years old.

The areas that UPM is planning on cutting down are labelled as a protected area, but that really only means that you can’t build things there. “Careful cutting” of these forests is fine. Do you know what UPM’s definition of “careful cutting” is, according to their previous work in other parts of Rokansaari?

…Yeah. And now they’re back to cut down the rest of the area they have.

Anyway, Greenpeace has made a petition to urge UPM to not cut down Rokansaari’s forests! They’ve succeeded in telling UPM off before in 2016, when they managed to keep another similar island safe. I hope they’ll be able to do it again, so I’m sharing the petition! I’m not sure if non-Finns can sign it, but if not, sharing it would be enough. We need more people on this case!

Bringing a boy to your realm, whereupon he sees a most fearsome beast (your neighbor's pet)

She has wavy vermillion hair, a triangular nose, orange eyeshadow, fangs, and wears a long-sleeved brown dress with muted yellow accents. Flapjack is flying nearby. end ID.

wish i had a bit going where whenever i said "the prophecy" like three of my friends would repeat "the prophecy" in different tones while squinting into the distance and rubbing their chins like sages deep in thought. i would also do this for them, im a team player

okay, so, be me, 27 years old at the time, an adult by any definition in the world

be me at the los angeles zoo, one of my very favorite places in the world, because i love animals. i am immedietly 8 years old when presented with a little creature. i can’t help it.

okay, wait, go back. we must establish two things for this to hit right

first:

the year before, i’d gone to the san diego zoo with my aunt and grandma and! they let you feed giraffes there!!

how wonderful a world and how wonderful a life, where for $10 I can hand feed a giant creature three crispy biscuits. i go “i am feeding the giraffes right now” and go in line to buy the biscuits and return moments later triumphant, 3 biscuits in my grasp

“oh good!” my grandmother says, “one for each of us!”

“yes,” i say, despondent, “one for each of us.”

i wanted to feed all three to the giraffes myself but since i am an actual adult and not a child i do not say this and share the biscuits

second:

my friend group echoes. a lot

someone tells a story and ends it with “and that’s what happened!” and the rest of us will repeat “and that’s what happened!”

often in unison. and it’s constant, all the time, even to little stuff. often said in the tone of “they don’t even have dental”

ok, so we’re back at the los angeles zoo. they have opened the giraffe feeding

i am not going to be thwarted again

my two friends (K and M) get in line to feed them and i go to buy the biscuits. i return with nine biscuits because i am going to give the giraffes three biscuits myself and i do not want to hear a word of protest. i am being fair. i am being equitable. i am sharing. no one can judge me

“wow!” says K. “that’s a lot of biscuits!”

“the cult provides,” i say generously, handing over their share, because what is a friend group if not a small cult

and then, automatically, in unison, like they have so many times before and thinking nothing of what exactly they’re saying, M and K reply, “the cult provides”

two different people in line turn to stare at us while we all blink at each other and then M nervously shouts, “we are definitely not in a cult!” which sounds like something someone who is in a cult might say

and ever since it’s been a running bit where one person says “the cult ____” and everyone echoes it as seriously as possible, no matter where we are or who we’re around

which is to say, OP, that you could be living the dream if your friends weren’t cowards

just saw a clip where f1nn5ter was saying how at this point, he can’t be cis, but at the same time, he doesn’t feel like he’s trans—he’s just neither. and someone in chat was like “you can’t be neither cis nor trans that’s not how it works” i love finn but why is his chat so fucking bad 😭 stop recreating binaries for the love of god, identity does not have to fall into these neat little boxes for you to police

essentially

I just saw someone say the words "jokingly gaslight" this might be a good time to reintroduce the internet to the terms "lying" or perhaps "pranking" or even just "joking" on it's own

Okay, say it with me guys…

If you are giving someone wrong information in the hopes that they'll believe that it's true, then that's lying.

If you are giving someone wrong information under the assumption that they'll ultimately realise that it's false, and that they will find this funny, then that's joking.

If you are giving someone wrong information in the hopes that they'll believe that it's true and that their response will be funny, then that's a prank.

If you are giving someone wrong information in the hopes that they will notice the differences between your presentation of reality and their perception of it, and come to doubt their ability to judge what is and is not real, then that's gaslighting.

now dont leave this in the tags

If you are giving someone wrong information and you assume they will know it is wrong, in hopes that they will play along, then that’s a bit.

A while ago I read about autistic people and nesting somewhere & I think we don't talk about that enough. Apparently, a lot of autistic people like nesting. I love nesting. I carefully choose a space to build my nest and I bring all my little trinkets there. I surround myself with everything I love and everything I could possibly need in the next few hours- my water bottle, a snack, my weighted blanket, my soft blanket, hand creme, my headphones, my charger, my favorite stuffed animals- so I don't have to leave the nest to get anything. It makes me feel save and calm and like everything is gonna be ok. This is a nesting appreciation post. Any other autistics who love a good nest?

I keep a remote, a phone charger, my books, meds, my knitting, drinks, and my laptop in my corner of the couch. I never realized this was a thing, but I’m always confused when my husband keeps getting up to get things he wants instead of keeping everything he could possibly want in his corner.

Two nests - one on the sofa, one in bed

Posts that make you go: hmmm, maybe this applies to me too

Because ho boy, me and my partner both nest a lot lololololol
