Fahrenheit lets me pick an outfit based solely on the 10s digit meanwhile you tell a Celsius user its gonna be in the 10s today and they have no clue what length of pants to wear. Is the 20s a pleasant walk or a day you should go swimming? Meanwhile Fahrenheit says its in the 70s and I know exactly what to expect today.

Look guys there’s nothing inherently better about either temperature system it’s literally what you grow up with. It’s all made up. You only think Fahrenheit is easier bc you grew up with it and the only reason you don’t understand Celsius is bc you didn’t. As someone who grew up with Celsius and had to learn Fahrenheit it’s still much more intuitive for me to tell temperature in Celsius.

A toddler with no previous exposure to either temperature system would not give a shit which one you used bc they won’t understand either of them. As you grow up you learn to associate a certain outside feel with this arbitrary number with either a C or F behind it. It’s literally just about familiarity. All of my friends who grew up outside the US prefer Celsius. It’s just about what’s easier for you to use.

I respect what you’re going for here but I don’t make inflammatory posts about inconsequential bullshit to reach some kind of compromise or consensus. Pick up a steel chair and go apeshit on somebody.

Farenheit was the first temperature measurement system invented, so as a result it was a flaming pile of dogshit. Like, 0 degrees farenheit is the freezing point of a salt water solution Mr. Farenheit had mixed up himself with no control samples or verification. That is the level of scientific procedure he was on. But everyone had to use it, beacuse he was the first person to actually do the fiddly work of fucking around to make up a temperature scale.

Then Mr. Celsius, an actual scientist, looked at it and went “hey, this is a flaming pile of dogshit, I’ll make a better one”. And so he did. And then everyone switched over to celsius because it’s literally the improved version of farenheit.

…Everyone except that one backwater shithole that also still uses the imperial measuring system, but they’re not really a developed country, they don’t even have basic things like healthcare or maternity leave like literally every other civilization on the planet. And then they brag online about using farenheit without realizing it’s part of why literally everyone else thinks their country is a backwater shithole.

I want to share some wisdom from my high school art teacher.

In my AP Art class, there was a girl who was just starting to experiment with mixed media. At this point she was still playing around, trying to decide what direction she wanted to go with her portfolio. So one critique day, she brought in an abstract canvas with some rhinestone highlights and painted and real peacock feathers. She loved sparkles and peacock feathers so she thought she’d try introducing them a *little*. And after everyone had given some input, the teacher gave her his advice, VERY roughly paraphrased here:

“So here’s the thing… I do not like this style. These are just elements that do not speak to me personally, but I see that you like them, and you’re doing interesting things with them.

“My biggest critique is, I only merely *dislike* this piece. I want you to make me HATE it. Go crazy with the things that you like. Don’t hold back trying to make it palatable to people like me. Because I am NEVER going to like it. And if the audience does not like it, it should drive them crazy seeing how much YOU love it.”

Her portfolio was chock full of neon colors and glitter and rhinestones and splashes of peacock feathers and it was a delight. Our teacher despised every piece lol, but she got great marks and I think even won some awards. And more importantly, she was happy and proud of the results. Because she didn’t limit herself by trying to appeal to people who were never going to enjoy what she enjoyed.

Takeaway here: be as cringe as you want. Don’t limit yourself based on other ppl’s tastes. They’re not you, and you are incredible 💕
