heyyyy welcome, welcome!! I've been expecting you. You don't need to wipe your feet on the mat, mud tracks on the carpet adds some personality to the space!! Hang your coat on the weird fake taxidermy pronghorn. To your left, the dining room, currently occupied by 23 people (and not people) having a heated debate about whether chartreuse is green or yellow (its neither). Oh, and here on our right is a comprehensive list of my Things! Take a peek, I'll be waiting in the corridor with the mosaic floor.

several months ago, I went to a checkup appointment with a specialist doctor for a condition I have and told her that my joints and leg muscles hurt a lot. IMMEDIATELY she was like "yeah you have low bone density, we're switching your meds" and within 10 minutes I was given new meds. I asked to do a scan for bone density and she just. refused???

anyway um! several months later! my new meds have done almost nothing to help, my previous symptoms which are not supposed to happen with meds are back, my joints still hurt a lot, and I'm constantly miserable due to pain. my dad did some research out of curiosity and it turns out that LOW BONE DENSITY DOES NOT CAUSE JOINT PAIN OR MUSCLE PAIN. SHE CHANGED MY MEDS FOR NO FUCKING REASON. I HAVE BEEN IN PAIN FOR MONTHS BECAUSE SHE KEPT SAYING "just wait it out" BUT NOTHING EVER GOT BETTER.

so I'm back on my old meds now and just. man. moral of the story ALWAYS push for tests. make sure your doctors know what they're talking about. you know your body best. I told my parents the entire time that the meds weren't working and they didn't believe me. please please listen to yourself and double check everything you can!!!!!!!

As someone that has grown up surrounded by beaches and done surf life saving, I know how the sea works. Lots of people dont. Every summer multiple tourists die here because they don’t respect the sea, if you’re going to the coast, here’s a thing I saw on Facebook.

wow.

reblogging for all of us that grew up in land locked states, then visit the ocean and are used to just plunging into a lake.

These are not unique to the sea btw. Rip tides are also a danger in other large bodies of water, like the Great Lakes

I had heard of rip tides, but I would never have guessed they were the calm-looking part. If I had been looking for a safe space to wade, I would have avoided all of the white parts (turbulent! terrifying!) and gone straight for the rip.

lake michigan has rip tides and strong currents and also the highest kill count of all of them because people think of superior and huron as The Scary Ones. lake michigan has beautiful beaches along very big cities, and eats tourists like popcorn. do not underestimate lakes, but particularly not the great lakes.

Lake Michigan is also a victim-taker because of the national lifeguard shortage coinciding with poverty and racial disparities in large cities. For example, in Milwaukee, low-income families are disproportionately of color. Low income kids and kids of color are far less likely to learn how to swim as they grow up, and low income housing usually lacks air conditioning. There are also fewer safe recreational spaces in poor areas of the city. This results in flocks of poor folks of color who don’t know how to swim at unguarded public beaches to cool off and play, ending in multiple drownings each year.

Prevention is always the best cure - share information about rip currents widely, but also support ALL kids in learning how to swim - this will improve water safety and physical health too!

transmasc pride flag i made on mspaint 💖

the yellow is because i like yellow the red is because its yellows best friend. the sun is because many trans men are hot and also represents life & hope & light. the moon is for sleepyboys and its the male symbol because we are men inside & out. the stars are because i like stars. the stick figures represent love & friendship and community. the bricks are to throw at transphobes and also to represent solidarity with each other & the wider queer community as well as other marginalized people.

this image is so yellow i thought i had my blue light filter on when i didnt. god bless

Here are some evacuation fundraisers from today:

They need help to get to Rafah and evacuate so Ghydaa can continue her treatment.

Kareem is an ER surgeon with family members who have worsening medical conditions and can no longer stay in Gaza. They need help to evacuate to Egypt.

Moamin is SO CLOSE to their goal and being able to evacuate their huge family out of Gaza!!

Hassan has eight children in his family, and bed-ridden himself- facing the possibility of having his leg amputated. They are seeking to evacuate Gaza for better health and a more sterile environment.

Sara's family is currently in Gaza, while her ill father made it to Egypt, much of her family is still in Gaza and wants nothing more than to get them out.

Alaa and Ola are both mothers of young children and are looking for support in the way of diapers, formula, passports, visas, etc. They're hope is to leave their home, as much as thay hurts to do.

🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

All of these fundraisers are verified through this Linktree called Funds for Gaza.

GoFundMe's minimum required donation is $5.00 (USD). So if you can afford that, please consider sending some help these folks' way!

Or take a look at the Operation Olive Branch spreadsheet for more verified links to fundraisers to help people evacuate Gaza.

It takes less than five minutes (less if you already have a GoFundMe account) and it helps save peoples lives. So please donate if you can and if you can't at least reblog this!

Hey, happy Earth Day! Who wants to talk about climate change?

Yeah, okay, fair, I kinda figured the answer to that would be "ugh do we have to?" What if I told you I have good news though? Good news with caveats, but still good news.

What if I told you that since the Paris Agreement in 2015, we've avoided a whole degree celsius of global warming by 2100, or maybe more?

Current projections are 2.7C, which is way better than the 3-5C (with a median of 3.7C) we were expecting in 2015. It's not where we want to be - 1.5C - but it is big, noticeable progress!

And it's not like we either hit 1.5C and avoid all the big scary consequences or fail to hit 1.5C and get all of them - every tenth of a degree of warming we avoid is going to prevent more severe problems like extreme weather, sea level rise, etc.

This means that climate change mitigation efforts are having a noticeable impact! This means a dramatically better, safer future - and if we keep pushing, we could lower the amount of global warming we end up with even further. This is huge progress, and we need to celebrate it, even though the fight isn't over.

It's working. Keep going.

I always like to remember that we're in the "pit" when it comes to the environment. years and years of shitty global decisions, mostly on the part of big companies, has led us to quite a scary place in terms of climate change, but recently we've started to see HUGE efforts going into solving each and every issue that arises!! turning algae into fuel (especially for planes which are REALLY hard to create sustainable fuel for!!! there are goals to get planes to fly on 100% sustainable fuel by 2030), huge initiatives to replant forests, absolutely monumental efforts by conservationists to protect and save endangered species (I come from aotearoa so I get to see a lot of these projects firsthand and they're going great!!!! kākāpō went from being considered extinct to being so plentiful that all the sanctuaries they live in are now full to capacity). humans care so much about our planet, our people, and our ecosystems. we aren't inherently evil. there is so much good happening because people care. I know being in The Pit absolutely sucks. its very scary. but we get to climb out of it. imagine our future! it's going to be okay.
