Seeing the video of the two hong kong women being killed is so frightening and disturbing. I just feel so much pain for these women. I started to feel like i could come out, but now i don't want to. It scares me that there's still so much misogyny and lesbian hatred in this world. I'm 18 and i'm going to a religious college and i just wonder how accepting these people are gonna be. i'm just so nervous and ashamed
i havent seen the video but i’ve read the story. here they are:
rest in peace Fang Xiaotong and Liu Jixi… they faced extreme lesbophobic violence and were stabbed recently for daring to be a visibly lesbian couple at a mall.
the lesbophobe targeted fang xiaotong first, likely because she’s visibly gender non-conforming and liu jixi tried to stop him & protect fang xiaotong.. they both got stabbed repeatedly and were killed in this attack
on top of this, they’re now censoring that they were a couple in the media and are trying to pass them off as just two friends that were killed. not only that, but they’re arguing the murderer is just mentally ill, saying it was just a random attack rather than a lesbophobic one, and otherwise trying to garner sympathy for him.
two women were killed due to lesbophobia and lesbophobic hate crimes are made invisible once again, meanwhile most people will just think it was a random attack on two friends and continue to downplay lesbophobia.
further story for those interested.
i encourage to share the story but i don’t advise to view the video of their killing. in multiple east asian cultures, there is a taboo around dead bodies and the depiction of them. i won’t watch the video out of respect for them, others have already verified that it clearly shows a targeted lesbophobic attack and that’s enough for me.
