Every cover/rewrite/parody of We didnt start the fire just sees the song as a reason to list of a bunch of verbs that rhyme. They always miss the feeling that you're being dragged through an unstoppable march of events in chronological order fast enough to be a little overwhelming. Fallout boy's one having "LeBron James" Followed Immediately by "Shinzo abe blown away" got a gut laugh out of me the first time and I will at the very least give them that and ending it on 9/11 for funny value. But overall it is a shame the structure of the song is just "say keywords that rhyme before the chorus melody comes back"
Maybe it’s just because I’m Jewish but I do truly believe that life gets ten times better when you learn to complain cheerfully
I think a part of it is that it lets you acknowledge that something sucks, which is actually really good in a culture that wants us to pretend that everything is fine and we’re soldiering through all the time. Like, no, my grocery bag breaking and spilling all over the floor is not fine. I’ve had a long day and I’m really upset and on the verge of tears because I can’t handle one more thing and pretending like it’s fine only means breaking down later.
But if you let yourself complain, if you let yourself swear terribly and creatively, and you stare down at the bruised vegetables like they’ve personally disappointed you, and you make yourself smile because this is really just so, so stupid, you feel a little better. There’s a power to acknowledging that something sucks and making yourself feel better anyways. There’s a power to going “and THEN my bag broke, and it’s like—seriously? my day was bad enough” and doing it with a smile.
You shouldn’t have to pretend things are fine when they aren’t. You shouldn’t have to force yourself to smile through things that make you feel terrible. But if you can make yourself laugh by staring down at some strawberries that have decided to revolt, and give them a lecture on why they’re just terrible, really, and that makes you smile—then maybe that’s a good thing.

Why aren’t there more people constantly talking about flatfishes. This is an animal that lives its whole adult life on its side so it has to move one of its eyeballs around to the other side. Are there people who don’t even know this or is it one of those things everybody just takes for granted so they never stop and think about how completely nuts that is.

My friend who has a gyno dad tells the best story about a couple (cis woman-trans man) who both tried in vitro fertilization and the guy got pregnant, and they were talking about it in the lobby when a cishet couple started getting weird abt it and said sth about it being "unnatural". Her dad heard and was like, "UNNATURAL? EVERYTHING WE DO HERE IS UNNATURAL, God didn't wanna give you guys a kid as much as he didn't want to give one to this couple! And you all came to me for the same thing! WE ONLY DO UNNATURAL!!! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU CAN LEAVE!" and to this day I've never respected a doctor more.

Something I love about Brennan Lee Mulligan as a GM is how he tailors the D&D experience for each of his players! As someone who is fairly new to the D&D/actual play world, it is so nice to have a GM who can walk you through all the nuances of playing while also never sacrificing the quality of play and Brennan does just that. He is so gentle and kind when explaining the rules and the world to all of the queens in Dungeons and Drag Queens, which makes their first experiences playing D&D the best it could possibly be! Even though this season is admittedly a lot slower feeling than the other seasons with much more experienced players, I am so sure that Brennan’s gonna hit it out of the ballpark with the drama and storyline and emotional punch through these four episodes and I personally cannot wait to see it all happen.
