I cannot BELIEVE you guys actually signing up to netflix just because account sharing was banned. You need to learn about cool websites with many beautiful women who would love you message you and send you downloadable files.
Apparently someone left a lighter in their pocket and all of That is from the gas released when the lighter ruptured
So there's slightly more to it than that, that dryer is a natural gas dryer rather than a purely electric one. So when the lighter went off (the initial small explosion) it damaged the sealed drum enough to get to the gas lines in the heating element of the dryer which then allowed the natural gas and oxygen to mix, hit the fire from the lighter, and result in the second MUCH LARGER blast.
This is one of the many reasons why you always check your pockets, and also why I've never owned a natural gas dryer, even though they're way more energy efficient than an electric one.
Damn O_o Honestly I wasn’t even aware that natural gas dryers existed.
Yeah, I've had a few houses that had hook-ups for them but I've never used them. If natural gas is cheap in your area and/or you live off-grid and don't want to rely on a clothes line they're great. Super energy efficient compared to any of the 240v electric dryers out there. But yeah, when your electric dryer goes wrong you just have damp clothes, when NG dryers go wrong they can go REALLY wrong.

A lot of people love that fake Voltaire quote, "To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize," because it's just vague enough to cover everyone's differing definition of who they are. Obviously the neo-Nazi who made this quote up meant it to imply Jewish people, but there's actually lots of different groups that aren't considered socially acceptable targets of specified critique.
You know who no one ever lets me criticize? Orphans. Anytime I try to point out that orphans are living lavishly at the expense of hardworking taxpayers, people around me always seem to get disgusted. Naturally, this suggests that we live in a world ruled by orphans
as much as i love seeing orcas launching what appears to be intentional coordinated attacks on human ships it also makes me very sad because if it starts to become a genuine problem or even an extremely minor disruption to business people are going to just start killing them and i don't know that the orcas really understand the power differential they're dealing with here. that is why i am starting an organization whose mission will be to establish communication with the orca populace and provide them with equipment and training in order to level the playing field and empower them to take control of the seas, with the potential to open up trade and diplomatic relations on their own terms
"binge-worthy show" man fuck that
i want my shows one episode followed by a whole ass week of going a little insane over it with the people on my phone, writing fics theorizing and going over every single scene through amazing gifs and meta, before the next ep drops and the cicle begins anew

It's also contributing to the overall stagnation of writing. Binging isn't conducive to analysis.
Binging and whole season drops also seem to be a bit hard on fandoms and fan content creation.
Looking at eg. House of the Dragon last year, which spaced out 10 episodes over 10 weeks (that is 2 1/2 months) and the fandom content production and fandom discussions over multiple platforms were so high! It gave fans time to speculate, to produce and to wait for. It held the anticipation high and invigorated the fandom over a long time.
But Netflix (or other streaming services) when they drop a whole season in one go? I feel yes, many fans will watch it. But the vibe is very different. And there will be discussions and fan content, but I feel it is not necessarily good for a fandom in the long run. The built-up does not carry these fandoms as long for "casual" fans and will not bring the same influx of new fans and new content to those fandoms. And that is sad for fan spaces in my opinion.
It's not just fandom. When I teach popular culture, I also mention how binge culture is destroying the social function of shows.
In the traditional broadcasting structure, you have an episode a week at a set time - you sit down and you watch it, maybe make a family thing out of it. The next day you go to work, and your coworkers have seen the episode too, and you talk about it - because a tv show is a safe topic (not political, not too personal), so you have something to bond over/socialize.
But when a whole season drops at the same time... You either force yourself to binge it, turning your schedule upside down, or you watch it in bits, risking to fall behind. Say a popular show drops a season on a Saturday. On Monday at work, there will be people who haven't started it, people who are half-through, people who have finieshed it... Mix with the fear-of-spoilers culture, suddenly this point of bonding becomes restricted, even eradicated.
It’s also destroying show production. These days if a season isn’t binged in the first week — fully, completed, watched all the way through in THE FIRST WEEK — it doesn’t get renewed. There’s no opportunity for shows to grow legs and catch on. Netflix would’ve canceled The X-Files. Netflix would’ve canceled so many classic shows that were allowed to find their audience gradually.

those posts online that are like sometimes it’s ok to be tired and do nothing all day it’s self care were so damaging to me when i was like depressed asf and 20. sometimes you just gotta get up and do shit and you’ll feel less tired afterwards cuz you don’t have 100000 neglected chores and obligations slowly debuffing you and draining all your chakras. like sometimes you (ME) just gotta suck it up. not to sound like my dad but it’s true.
“And family history, after all, is just another kind of ghost story. So ten years ago, on a night just like tonight, when the fog lay heavy on the lowlands, a man drove his sister home. And eleven years on a night just like tonight, their mother died, and it didn’t –mean- anything, but it happened. And the sister stood by and watched it happen and the brother, talked on the radio and didn’t even know that it had happened until afterwards, and there was nothing that they could have done.”

Unfortunately— and literally no one is talking about this— if you buy many many little treats for yourself, cumulatively, this can add up to a larger amount of money, if you add the numbers together. I’m not sure if there’s anything to be done about this but thought I would bring it to the attention of my beloved and far-reaching audience
"The faggots never tire of fucking with the men's minds. Once all the faggots let their hair grow long, wore necklaces made of silver and shells and clothes of colorful, elaborate fabrics. They looked so stunning that the men over-looked their principles and began to look stunning also. When the men all looked like faggots, the faggots cut their hair, put on black leather and looked like the men used to look. The men were annoyed and pretended not to notice. Growing bored with basic black leather, the faggots began to elaborate. They wore black fish-net stockings and high heels with their black leather jackets. They carefully sewed imitation rhinestones all over their black leather pants. They wore feather boas as they rode their motorcycles through the devastated city. They wore flowing gold lamé gowns and work boots with their short hair and dirty fingernails. They drank beer and swore, in velvet ropes and furs. They sipped champagne and talked refined in paint-splattered blue denim. The men did not want to look at any of this. And when they had to, they became confused and petulant and unpleasant, which pleased the faggots."
