In 2017, he received backlash for proposing the then president of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe as a WHO goodwill ambassador, saying at the time Mugabe helped to make Zimbabwe, "a country that places universal health coverage and health promotion at the centre of its policies."

More recently he's been criticised for delaying action on declaring COVID-19 a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), and his praise of China's measures to deal with the coronavirus.

After his visit to Beijing in late January, Dr Tedros said China set "a new standard for outbreak control." A few days later, he told world leaders at the Munich Security Conference that China "had bought the world time."

The WHO experts who traveled to China covered up the situation on the ground. For example, based on numbers from the South China province of Guangdong, the WHO argued that undetected cases are rare. However, a screening program for COVID-19 only included patients seen at fever clinics. In Germany, most of the people who tested positive did not show a fever. Thry constantly parrot the talking points of the CCP saying Human to Human transmission isn't possible, wearing masks is not essential, quarantine is not necessary, restricting travel is racist ect ect.

Dr Tedros - who has never practiced as a medical doctor - is a career politician who was born in what is now Eritrea, began work under the Communist Derg junta, came to study in the UK, then rose to the top of Ethiopia's government first as Health Minister and then Foreign Minister before being elected to lead the WHO in 2017 due to lobbying from Beijing.

This is not the first time that Dr Tedros has been accused of cozying up to China.

UN records show that Chinese contributions to both Ethiopia's aid budget and the WHO have substantially increased during times when he was in top leadership positions.

Was really getting it until that last line which has me confused again.

Bacteria are living organisms. They’re weird little dudes, but they’re alive, they metabolize things, they are cells, and they can be murdered with poison that kills them (antibiotics) or by shredding them into pieces.

Viruses aren’t alive. They’re bizarre little clumps of genetic material and protein that don’t really… do anything except turn living cells into virus replication factories and then make them explode. They can’t be poisoned, but you can break them apart physically.

Sometimes viruses can be combated with antivirals—unlike antibiotics, antivirals don’t actually kill/destroy viruses themselves, but makes it harder for them to turn cells into exploding replication factories.

Viruses are more like machines than living things. You can either break them, or make their task harder or impossible, but you can’t kill them.

There’s a theory that viruses started as intra-cell messenger systems which ran wild. So you’re sick with the cellular equivalent of a postman knocking on your door, shouting at you in ancient greek until you die of confusion, then using your house to make more postmen.
