I’ve been here for way too long, so I post the most random shit. Don’t even bother following me.

Love love LOVE the focus on Joel’s boots during his rampage in the hospital. Because it’s not in a fit of rage, or desperation. Joel’s face is blank. He’s not thinking about consequences of his actions. He’s thinking “you took away my daughter and now I’m getting her back.” It’s a skill he picked up from Tess. He knows what’s coming. There’s no need to get emotional about it. It’s the simplest thing in the world to him: “You don’t get to take her away from me. Not again.” Hell, he doesn’t even look at the doctor when he shoots him! He’s looking right at Ellie, his entire focus and purpose laying in front of him! Mans is straight up on autopilot!

Joel is a unstoppable force in his grief. And Ellie is the immovable object that keeps him from walking straight over the ledge.

joel noticing that ellie's been acting quiet and trying to make it up to her with chef boyardee and boggle and letting her read her "shitty puns" just to make her smile is easily the most dad thing he's ever done

It’s so gorgeous, and just true. And then the look on Bella’s face, as Ellie, realizing the enormity of what he’s saying, and the fact that it hadn’t even occurred to her. That this whole time, he’s been this person that she looks up to, and this person that saves her, and this person that she wants to save, because she wants that father in her life. She needs this connection.

But never did it occur to her what she meant to him. It was always, “What do you mean to me?” And when a child hears something like that, it is overwhelming to them. And you can see her struggling to process it.

I think we wrote this in the script, like literally, “This is how they say I love you.” They don’t say I love you. How they say I love you is they talk around it. Without saying I love you, she says, “Well I’m glad that didn’t work out.” - Episode 9, "Look For The Light" | The Last of Us Podcast

It’s okay, baby girl. You’re safe. I got you. THE LAST OF US 2023- • 1.01 // 1.09

ignoring how emotionally devastating the episode was I love how once joel accepted he was a Dad again he went from reluctant father figure to full blown dad mode. did not hold back. found ellie’s favorite food and a board game for them to play. took her to the zoo (the giraffe feeding scene). asked her if she was ok in the most gentle way possible. told her stories about sarah. compared her to sarah bc they’re both his daughters. told ellie how proud he was of her / how much he cared for her. opened up. said “we’re going home”. murdered dozens of people for her. brought her on a hike. you know. normal dad stuff

The way that Joel’s done what he could not to kill people and you can feel his hesitation when he has to kill the teenager in Kansas City, and the old man in ks city trying to snipe them, but when it comes to David’s men, when it comes to where the hell his Ellie is, shit breaks loose. They will tell him where Ellie is, they will tell him how to find her, and the motivation isn’t them getting to keep their lives, it’s how quickly they want to die.

I think the show was a bit scary and stuff before. But this episode? No cordyceps, no clickers. Just men. That is what made this episode so incredibly terrifying.

It’s not that it’s scary bc it’s an apocalypse. It’s scary bc David is just a man, and running into someone like him is not a rarity in our world OR the apocalyptic world of the show

it amazes me how ellie's "tough guy" demeanor is totally different when she's not with joel. it's like. having him present and close gives her this extra security so that she can seem more confident in what she's saying. her threats are more consistent and even more creative and sarcastic because she knows joel is there to protect her anyways. but now that she's facing these men alone??? her voice is higher and less steady, much more child-like. her threats are repetitive and not as cocky, she can't mask her fear through this dangerous demeanor as well as before because she's not only afraid that joel's not there, but also that they might find him and attack him in a moment in which he's too vulnerable to protect himself. the LAYERS
