Bruce wholeheartedly believing Dick as Nightwing is a better version of Batman and Dick believing no one will ever make a better Batman than Bruce and fearing not living up to it is something that can be so personal actually <3
that's it! you get it!
and it's wild because Bruce genuinely admires the way Dick can open himself up to other people, he loves Dick's optimism and compassion. The way he's made himself into a hero who doesn't have to use fear to be effective.
and Dick is frustrated with his own passion, his inability to completely regulate his rage. He admires Bruce's detachment and how Bruce manages to snatch victory from defeat "effortlessly" (it's not effortless obviously it only looks like that to Dick)
they admire something in the other that they don't see in themselves and never stop to think about the parts of themselves that are being admired, that are worth admiration.
New Teen Titans #65 (April 1990) | Dick Grayson training Tim Drake to be Robin - part 2
One of my favourite things about Tim’s tenure as Robin is the little training arcs he goes through in order to build up his skills. DC really took their time with Tim, easing him slowly into various events and having him prove himself with every challenge.
Here we have him learning observational and deductive skill from none other than the former Boy Wonder himself, Dick Grayson. Later on he also manages to witness Dick’s leadership abilities with the Teen Titans, which in my opinion, taught him a lot about how the Robin legacy is more than just being Batman’s sidekick (which he will experience when he joins his own superhero group, Young Justice, years later).
equal but opposite energies
[outsiders 2003 #4, gl/ga #2 or green lantern 1960 #79]
Hurt/comfort writers see a character and be like “I want to see them fall so far but I also want them to land on something soft”
that’s the feeling
Just like jumping off the staircase onto a 4 ft wide beanbag
Like we’re kids again and all risk has padding before the pain
batgirl (2000) #73
- …why does everyone i care about die?
- because… you care about everybody. and everybody dies.
a piece of media that is bad: mundane. effectless
a piece of media that is bad but had the potential to be so so good: unbearable. agonizing. soul crushing even
I ❤️ self-loathing characters, characters who struggle with monstrosity (either fearing or embracing it), characters who are so lonely, who have a gaping hole in their chest, who bottle up & repress their feelings, who claw their way up & have ambitions, who fall down & lose everything, who search for identity & purpose yet can’t see themselves outside of what others want from or expect of them, who are hurt & hurt others, who long & grieve, who lie & pretend. characters who are messy & flawed & human
character who is sun-coded but not in the traditional ray-of-sunshine way. character who is sun-coded in the sense that they burn hot and bright and powerful, that they're a raging fury of fire and passion, and that maybe, just maybe, they are destroying themselves as they do so.
yes those are indeed incorrect quotes. one might even say they are the opposite of the character meant to be saying it. wonderful name, good job! i sure hope no one misconstrues the incorrectness as correctness in characterization
i draw the batkids a lot but my faves are clark and bruce. unfortunately, they are really hard for me to draw but at least i can draw the kid versions of them
i think…the kents and alfred did their best to raise clark and bruce. no one knew the grand destinies ahead of them... they were just two very scared and lonely kids.
Tim Drake clearly loves all of the bat-heroes, but I think my favorite dynamic is just Tim being like “OMG OH MY GOSH ITS NIGHTWING, LIKE GUYS ITS NIGHTWING!”
And honestly, same. That would also be my reaction to meeting Dick Grayson.
THIS IS THE FUNNIEST FUCKING RESPONSE IVE EVER GOTTEN ON ANY OF MY POSTS EVER
yj should have a confessional room with a camera like on reality tv shows but mari is the only one who has access to it and at the end of every episode she gives us her hot takes on what just happened
archetypes of a knight as seen commonly in fantasy, and their representations in a song of ice and fire by george r.r. martin.
The stupidest ASoIaF AU ever, in which the houses all turn into their sigils for one week of the year. Yes, this does have horrifying implications for the Boltons and plot altering implications for Jon that I will be ignoring for the sake of Ned’s blood pressure (uhhhh umm let's just say that because Lyanna was a Stark he does Wolf Week instead of Dragon Week shut up)
Part 1: Winterfell
[Pt. 2]
big fan of characters with abandonment + attachment issues so profound that they leave claw marks in everything they touch but would sooner gnaw off their own leg than admit they just want someone to stay for once. in a totally normal well adjusted and not at all projecting way of course.
big fan of characters who are always leaving. who constantly have a suitcase in their hand. characters who start planning their exit the moment they arrive and get nervous when the people in their lives start to Know them. in a totally normal well adjusted and not at all projecting way of course
