Design, writing, fandom musings

Wow! Here’s something incredibly personal.

This is Good Bi Gender. A comic I made to express some feelings I have about my gender. I don’t really have that much else to say about it. Here it is.

Y’all. Are you seeing. Are you looking at. LOOKIT!

It’s TKT Ezra! Right there! With his shawl and his lightsaber and his undercut! He looks so good!!

And all the padawans are right there too! Look at their expressive little faces! They have mischief in their hearts, you can tell!

Thank you so much for this, @tobytost! It looks absolutely incredible!

I usually reblog other people’s art, fics, etc. on my side-blog so that it’s easier to navigate the main blog, but this seemed like a great time to make an exception.

"What's for Din-ner??" inspired by food and Star Wars (FOOD WARS!) in children's book style! Don't take too seriously, this was just a fun and silly side project, hahaha-

When I get hungry, my brain starts making all the food puns, so apologies in advance if you feel the need to facepalm. xD Had so much fun with this! I put in a lot of my favorite foods, so the puns are quite biased, haha-- What alternative food puns can y'all think of?

Version 2: Names Labeled!

Hope this helps with identifying them!

I've also listed each clone's primary media. These may not be the *only* things they appear in, but they're what I consider to be their main source material! These include but are not limited to live action films, the Clone Wars, the Bad Batch, and various Legends.

Some additional notes, as well as final voting results beneath cut!

My only two modes while writing are “writing, vibing, not having a single thought about how language works, just finding ways to express myself” and “wait. fuck. how does English work again. where do verbs go. is this a noun”

The adhd modes of food

1. You ate that burger so fast. You ate that burger so fucking fast and now the whole Red Robin is staring at you god what the fuck

2. You started eating like a normal person, but then you started talking or daydreaming and now the waitress is handing you the check but you’ve still got half a plate of cold fettuccine

3. You were going to go out to eat, but then you saw a video in your YouTube recommendation that drew you towards it like moth to a flame, and now it’s 10 pm and you’ve got an empty bag of tortilla chips in your hand and shame in your heart

4. Mac And Cheese

5. You got engrossed in a project, suddenly you feel like you’re going to die, or faint, or both? Oh. you’re hungry.

6. You’re hungry.  But every food you can think of sounds disgusting.  Time for your 15th day of lunchables for breakfast in a row.

7. The food you’ve been obsessively eating for the past 2 weeks and you relied on is now the grossest thing you could put in your mouth

The purpose of child hero stories is not “this universe is abusive toward children and no one has child age labor laws” it is that they are stories written for children so that they can see themselves overcoming challenges and defeating monsters.

Avatar

You’re right and you should say it

stories like these have probably helped countless kids out there

Since it is so likely that (children) will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker.

C.S. Lewis

“Fairy tales, then, are not responsible for producing in children fear, or any of the shapes of fear; fairy tales do not give the child the idea of the evil or the ugly; that is in the child already, because it is in the world already. Fairy tales do not give the child his first idea of bogey. What fairy tales give the child is his first clear idea of the possible defeat of bogey. The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination. What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon.”

I experienced homelessness as a child and spent a lot of time in public libraries with my family, because it was one of the few public indoor spaces that didn’t cost any money and was good for us. I read these types of stories constantly.

Because of these child hero stories, I never lost hope when I was young. I eventually became the first doctor in my family and now spend my career providing free healthcare to disadvantaged people like me.

Writers never doubt that your work is vital and that it saves lives. Authors told me that I could slay dragons and I never questioned it.

This, this, this this, this is so important

There was a blog I used to follow (and recently blocked because I was fed up with them) where they would frequently make points that went like “well this trope would be problematic in real life so this work of fiction in a fictional not realistic world should either depict the trope as problematic or do away with it altogether”

Particularly with stories involving child protagonists

Child heroes are, first and foremost, fighting a battle against malice, indifference and greed. They defeat all of them through compassion, caring, courage, trust and selflessness. These enemies might appear in the story as an evil wizard, a gluttonous cat, a terrible dragon or an ancient god, it doesn’t matter. The message is, no matter what form they take, they can all be defeated through compassion, caring, courage, trust and selflessness. If you erase the child hero, you tell our children, “you need to be big, you need to be strong, so you can punch that thing in the face, there is no other way to deal with stuff.”

And that would be our undoing.

And even for adults, which the challenges faced may not be dragons, sometimes the inner child needs to be fed and reminded that evil can be defeated through compassion, selflessness, etc.

Which some people seriously need a reminder of.

This. ^^^^^

(I.e., all of the above.)

Child heroes are the embodiment of overcoming helplessness, of perseverance in a world so much bigger and stranger and meaner than you. Never let go of that childish need to rectify injustice.

“He’d take Feemor's hand, if he could do it over. He’d reach across the table, wrap his fingers around Feemor's big, warm hand, the hands that cleaned Fox’s armor and carried him back to the Temple and protected him even with Ventress and Cad Bane bearing down on him. He’d just…do that one little thing. And maybe it wouldn’t matter, but—

What if it did?”

If you have read this spectacular Fox/Feemor fic with the most brilliant interpretation of Dooku I have ever read — RUN DON’T WALK TO AO3 AND READ IT!

THERE’S MORE

[Image ID: A digital illustration of The Clone Wars characters Rex, Cody, and Obi-Wan. They're all smiling and roughly facing the viewer, with Cody in the middle, his arms over Rex and Obi-Wan's shoulders. They're visible from just below the waist up, standing in front of green foliage. Rex, on the left, is turned in toward Cody a little, but his new outfit is still visible. From this viewpoint, his canon Phase II chest/back plate, spaulders/shoulder bells, and the armor on his arms are visible. Under his armor he's wearing light tan robes with dark blue tabards and obi, and he has a silver and blue lightsaber clipped to the left side of his belt, partially hidden by his body. Part of a small blue Jaig Eyes design is visible on the saber. The outline of a blue circle is painted on his white spaulder, and inside are Jaig Eyes like those on his helmet in canon. Between the Jaig Eyes are the sword and star from the Jedi Crest, also in blue. Rex is looking at Obi-Wan and/or Cody. Cody is wearing a naval officer's uniform (commonly called 'dress greys' in fanon), minus hat and gloves, with the front unsnapped and hanging open. He has a white shirt underneath and is looking back at Rex. Obi-Wan, on the right, is wearing his canon outfit from the later seasons of TCW. He is looking across at Rex. The scene is lit by warm light above and behind the viewer. End ID.]

As soon as I started reading sheApunk89's series, Wilder Mind, months ago, I was hooked. Rex's characterization, in particular, is nuanced and thoughtful, and so perfect! All the characters are portrayed with such care, and the complexity of his relationship with Obi-Wan is especially interesting. Just. Ugh, so good!

I will never tire of how you draw them. Cody and Rex need to have reason to smile more. This is just LAYERS of perfection stacked atop each other.

And I second the FIC rec because the author NAILS Rex in a way I haven’t read before, and it’s effortless and descriptive. Go read it!
