sino-korean numbers.

these numbers are used for:

  • counting money.
  • measuring objects, weights, & heights.
  • math.
  • saying phone numbers.
  • counting time (except for hours).
  • counting days, weeks, and months.

1 - 일

2 - 이

3 - 삼

4 - 사

5 - 오

6 - 육 (when counting from 1 to 10, 육 is pronounced as 륙 therefore, 일 이 삼 사 오 륙.)

7 - 칠

8 - 팔

9 - 구

10 - 십

100 - 백

1,000 - 천

10,000 - 만

100,000 -  십만

1,000,000 - 백만

10,000,000 -  천만

combining sino-korean numbers can be tricky if you’re not used to this kind of system.

if you want to say the numbers 11-19:

11 = 10 + 1 = 십 + 이 = 십이

15 = 10 + 5 = 십 + 오 = 십오

19 = 10 + 9 = 십 + 구 = 십구

if you want to say the numbers 20-29:

20 = 2 + 10 = 이 + 십 = 이십

26 = 2 + 10 + 6 = 이 + 십 + 육 = 이십육

the same concept is used when dealing with numbers 30 and so forth.

when going over ten thousands to millions (or higher), they are most likely to be expressed in terms of 만 or ten thousands therefore:

10,000 = 만

334,017 = 33,4017 = 33만 4017 = 삼십삼만 사천십칠

8,542,922 = 854,2922 = 854만 2922 = 팔백오십사만 이천구이십이

31,719,250 = 3171,9250 = 3171만 9250 = 삼천백칠십이만 구천이백오십
