I'm seeing a behavioral trend from players regarding Astarion that I witnessed with Zevran waaay back when I was in the DA fandom, and it's behavior I don't like.
Characters are always going to have haters one way or another, and that's fine. But the filth that I see on Twitter is often grounded in homophobia. It doesn't matter that the companions are romanceable by any gender, Astarion is the one targeted by comments about how annoying he is and how people can't wait to brutally murder him. And when you look at the posts they're replying to or retweeting...it's because he has effete mannerisms. He's not doing anything in the shit they're replying to that might actually warrant a stake through the heart. He is merely acting a way homophobic shitstains actively despise.
Same shit happened with Zevran, where dudes were like, "He hit on my character so I killed him."
My level of rage towards these people knows no bounds.
It was happening since 2020 as YT can testify. I don't get these people. Astarion's writer said that he is meant to be annoying but they are obscessed with what they despise. They hate Astarion for flirting with their male character but don't care in cases when Gale and Wyll are doing the same? I suppose they also ignore the moments when Astarion is a dork. I can understand killing him for being a vampire but come on, if he's too bi/gay for you, it's so easy to not engage with him at all.

Yeah. Yeah, that's the giveaway. Some men see a man behaving in any way feminine and immediately 1) assume he's gay, 2) perceive him as a threat of some kind, and 3) need to "punish" him for merely existing. And I wouldn't say it's just homophobia. There's some transphobia at play there, too.

I think most women would find this gesture funny - and it's obviously supposed to be funny. These faux dramatic gestures are the reason why we love this charming bitchy gremlin.
