the moon vision that is troubling paul in this latest chapter had me immediately thinking of 'They have tried to take the life of my son!' because of its repetition along with the introspection of the chapter.
but it has deeper significance. i couldnt remember if the moon was used as a symbol of any part of the atreides infrastructure so i was thinking about what it represented until he saw alia's banner with the green and black banners with the moon, the symbol of the atreides.
it twisted and morphed and hissed, before being extinguished in an 'infinite sea' and leaving nothing but darkness? the twisting and morphing is self-explanatory, as you can plainly see that house atreides is in a different position than it was in the previous book.
as he looked out onto the city and into homes, he saw plentiful green, and noted that green represented the water wealth that the emperorship would bring to arrakis. but the other half of the atreides banner is black, and the other half of paul's vision is the pitch blackness of the world without the moon.
my thinking is that the water drowning out the moon is a representation of the weight of godhood and emperorship that will destroy house atreides, which itself has already changed form and twisted in the sky (the sky being the emperor's throne).
