My take on Nie Huaisang’s design notes for Wei Yings cultivation outfit from “truth will out (when caught on video)” by @kizukatana

This fic is SO GOOD and i am also a sucker for nhs as a fashion designer in any fic.

I also did an alternate version and designed a logo for NHS because i have no control of my life and got hyper-focused on drawing 😅

I’m always gonna be pissed that amatonormatvity as a term and a model for understanding society was literally mocked into disuse by exclusionists because of its association with aromantic folks.

Amatonormativity, honestly, has approximately fuck-all to do with aros. We did not even coin it, we’re simply the only people who actually take it seriously cause we’re among the ones who are most hurt by it. And it PISSES me the fuck off that it is not a widespread model used in greater queer discussions.

Amatonormativity is what causes romantic relationships to be prioritized above all else. The adults who find themselves slowly losing friends until their only contacts are their coworkers and their own nuclear family? Amatonormativity.

Rebelling against this culture and embracing a non-hierarchical view of relationships is the first step to making genuine connections and improving our collective mental health.

May I also add: Amatonormativity is what causes consensual non-monogamy be treated as inherently abusive, and its the same thing that causes being in an abusive relationship to be seen as better than being single. Amatonormativity is a fundamental part of slut shaming, stigma against sex work and rape culture. Amatonormativity impacts everyone and really should have become a widely discussed and challenged concept but people just hated aspecs so much they were willing to shoot their alleged activism in the foot for it.

The way capitalism pushes everyone to organize into two-adult-some-kids financial units that are much more easily exploitable and kept under control than interconnected multi-generational communities where you don’t need to be having sex with someone to share resources with them? Amatonormativity.

Or even just how hard it is for a lot of single people to survive, because there’s this baseline assumption that stuff is built for two partnered people, with two incomes, and how much more expensive it is to be single.

As an ace person who forms very strong friendships, I am so tired of being pushed out every time one of my friends gets a new SO. I did years of work to be loving and supportive and there through the bad parts, why does someone with nice tits win the field just by saying “you can touch these now”?

Amatonormativity means most of the people in your life are only ever there to go, and it’s exhausting.

"Your community is situated in a popular Canadian drilling region. Has there been more conflict there, apart from yours?

There's been all kinds of stuff that's happened in my area that never hits the papers. Supposedly, someone blew up a pipe just across the border in Tomslake, BC.

And there was one sour gas well that blew right on the same road two or three kilometers from the alleged bombing site. The pipe actually blew out from sand corrosion on an elbow from fracking—they hadn't cleaned it out properly—and that thing blew for eight hours. The people in that area had to self-evacuate. Nobody came.

Even when they called 911 they didn't come. Eight hours of "jet engine" blasting of sour gas into the atmosphere. Cattle lost their fetuses, horses got sick, and one of the women who lives nearby is sick, probably for life."

This is a protest. His refusal is saving lives and land. Imagine the whole community doing this. A whole city. Region. Tribe.

Sick list of symptoms bro. Now try humanizing your behavior instead of pathologizing it.

Pathologizing: Hey sorry I yelled at you. I have this ADHD symptom called RSD that makes me really sensitive.

Humanizing: Hey, I’m sorry that I blew up like that earlier. In the moment I felt really attacked and overwhelmed and I reacted badly, but I know you didn’t mean to offend me with what you said, so that behavior is on me.

Not sure if these guys want to be tagged but everybody in the notes is elaborating much better than I could.

The first behavior (whether you like it or not) can make the other person feel distant from you. (“Oh. Huh. I don’t have that symptom so I guess I could never understand…”)

Whereas describing your thoughts and feelings makes the other person feel connected to you. (“That’s an experience I’ve had before, I’ve definitely made a similar mistake.”)

It's crazy that these strikes are happening given that all the writers and actors are asking for is less than 0.3% of the revenue these studios make.

This is what gets me. The writers and actors aren’t asking for much but these CEOs are digging their heels in

It's because it sets a precedent that the CEOs are terrified to set. That they will acquiesce to worker demands if the workers are resolute enough.

Because in an ideal world for these rich fucks, the workers give up, and the CEOs win, and its reinforced in the collective public mindset that all a strike does is "disrupt the economy, deprive people of valuable products, and waste people's time". The goal is to maintain the assertion that Strikes Don't Work. I don't think they genuinely give a shit about 0.15% of their revenue. What they care about is the OPTICS.

They cannot back down, for the exact same reason that WORKERS cannot back down. Because if the workers win, it shows people just that bit more that The Poors have power and ultimately we can make the rich do what we want if we put our fucking minds to it. And that, to the rich, is bad news bears to the highest degree.

burning man 2023 explained

  • burning man is a festival for rich white people who want to smoke weed and trip acid in the nevada desert and pretend they're one with the earth. it's not a music festival or anything that serves any purpose, it's just vibes
  • a hundred year flash flood just hit nevada, including where burning man is being held this very weekend
  • dry desert ground can't suddenly absorb water, let alone that much water all at once, so now burning man is a giant mud pit with THICK deep mud
  • nobody can get in or out, so they closed all the roads
  • FEMA just told the *73,000 PEOPLE* stranded at burning man to shelter in place, ration food and water, and essentially "you're on your own, good luck"
  • the port-o-potties are overflowing into the mud they're all walking around in
  • the official CDC twitter account tweeted (and then deleted) that there's a confirmed ebola outbreak at burning man, but people are pretty sure it's just trench illnesses. like actual WWI trench illnesses
  • earlier this week, climate activists protested against burning man, and all the attendees drove right past them (and yelled at them, and tried to get them arrested, etc)
  • there's a private jet at burning man where people can join the mile high club. it just takes off and lands all day and lets people fuck in it. no word yet on the fuck plane's current status/location

and lastly: when the ground here gets wet, the sea monkeys hatch

I think one of the consequences of getting older is finding out that your parents were kind of right when they complained about technology? At least you can see they weren’t entirely wrong.

I’ve been hearing from friends that it’s getting harder to find quality refrigerators that don’t connect to the internet. Why exactly does my refrigerator need wifi? Or even a computer, at that? Older fridges can last decades because they have so few failure points. They have one job and they do it well.

I tend not to use my smart TV very often because the damn thing glitches and it’s laggy and too much of a hassle unless I am really committed to watching a movie in my living room. And the worse thing is...can you even buy a non-smart TV these days that isn’t secondhand? Are they even making ordinary...yanno...televisions that don’t need software updates and internet connections, anymore?

Someone in the comments of this post asked how bluetooth earbuds are forced and everyone pointed out that a lot of phones (especially iphones) simply do not have the ports to plug in wired headphones anymore. You must get the apple wireless headphones - and I think that’s the crux of the problem. I am glad I have an android phone because I can use the old wired earbuds I've had for over 12 years. If I wanted to, I could buy wireless earbuds and use them instead, because my model of phone gives me that option.

And that's the kicker: the problem is that as things are "advancing," more and more, options are being taken away. It has nothing to do with consumer demand - obviously there are a lot of people that are not happy with these developments. But as we’re seeing, the products being made don’t reflect customer preference or choice. It’s always about is best for the companies making and selling those products.

Every day we’re hearing about new apps and tech startups and really...does anyone really want this shit? Is the nth attempt to make crypto work, the billions spent on the Metaverse, doorbell cameras; is a fridge with an IP address really allow it to do its job better? Is that actually going to improve the lives of anyone who aren’t the developers of that product? Just the other day I was reading about a tech startup that wants to be able to beam ads into your car's GPS screen. Video ads! On a screen! To tell drivers what's nearby when they can just...continue to look out the window because they're supposed to be driving a goddamn car.

The problem of a world run by tech companies is that the tech isn’t being made to accommodate us, we are being forced to accommodate the tech.

i had to use a loaner car for a few days recently while my car was at the dealership for work. i drive a 2012 model, and they gave me a 2023 model to use. i have never been more frustrated while driving a vehicle. a huge touch screen lights up when you start the car, reminding me to NOT LOOK AT IT BECAUSE IT’S DISTRACTING. all the knobs, buttons, levers that I’m used to - you know, the things i need to find by physical touch alone so i don’t have to look away from the road? - they’re all touch screen buttons now. all of them!! even the parking brake. and you KNOW when any of those elements break (and they will) its gonna mean replacing the entire computer and not one physical component. not the mention software updates. I’m so stressed about whenever i will have to buy my next car because all new vehicles are being built this way. disposability as a function.

fuck it, i never ever do those “reblog for X, this one really works!” posts, but this one doesn’t have any of that BS, this is just straight up wishing us good things; and then the comment doesn’t even say any of that either. Zero claims on this post, all positive vibes

Biden still isn't my first choice but he's actually doing stuff. It's kinda nice.

This congress is also doing stuff. Y'all who are US citizens better vote next year because I want congress to keep doing stuff.

Gay marriage is law now. The federal definition of marriage is formally changed, protecting us from any potential decisions from the supreme court. Infrastructure around the country is finally getting the repairs and upgrades that it needs. They're fighting for student loan forgiveness even if the first attempt didn't work. They're actually investing in green energy and creating jobs. We've still got a very very long way to go. But for the first time in a very long time I've got some gentle hope. A general expectation that things could get a bit better. Not the fighting for my life crawling through the mud clawing at the cliff kind of hope. I'm just kinda curious about the future. And I haven't felt like this in so long. Change is slow, folks. But it's happening.

Especially the climate investment. Like seriously, as someone in the industry it's hard to overstate the effect the Inflation Reduction Act had on the industry. My workload increased overnight. Tons of projects got the go-ahead and funding allocated the week after. Recruiters started absolutely blowing up my phone because everyone was trying to bring on more people. It's not a perfect bill, but it had an extraordinary tangible impact.

Biden’s NLRB being significantly more pro-union is also part of why there has been a massive uptick in organizing and strikes.

Like sure there’s still shit that sucks. There will always be shit that sucks. But things have been better that they were lately.

self proclaimed leftists with entire graduate degrees on twitter not understanding that tourism in places like latin america and the caribbean is a form of neocolonialism even in places where the national economy is dependent on it. just because the government is making money off of ur lil excursions and hotel stays doesn’t mean regular citizens are, especially in your fave ‘tropical getaway spots’. the fact that sandals wanted to build an entire resort in tobago where my family lives might sound great for the economy or whatever until you realize that they would’ve closed off several acres of land and made it inaccessible to non-tourists which is fucking insane thing to even propose on such a small island. like i’m sorry but do you really think my family is grateful when you crackers come to visit during the winter?? do you really think your presence adds value to their lives?? when the govt invests money in ports but not paving the fucking roads anywhere that’s not downtown/vacation home territory?? you white losers need to put down ur marx for like half a sec and pick up a small place by jamaica kincaid. like lol if you wanna be a tourist be a tourist but don’t fucking act like anyone who refers to it as a contemporary form of colonialism is doing too much. ESPECIALLY when this sentiment is legit coming directly from the people living in the getaways you love to visit. i genuinely don’t understand how y’all can grasp the “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism” shit but can’t understand this.

tourists visit a place where the livelihoods of the 5% of the population they actually interact with are dependent on how well they’re able to kiss their asses and make them feel like they’re the most important people in the world and somehow they genuinely believe that this translates to all of the locals actually liking, respecting, and needing them.

I was a participant of the now cancelled UBI pilot in Ontario Canada. I was happier, safer, was able to move and work at better jobs.

And oops there it is. Better jobs.

Better jobs

It's a class barrier. They need a poverty class to function
