Doodles of Fun

@colpfiction / colpfiction.tumblr.com

An art blog dedicated to showing off my messier, more NSFW fanart and other strange pieces. SYKE! I LIED! I HAVE NO SENSE OF CONSISTENCY AND MOSTLY JUST DRAW MEMES. LONG LIVE VAPORWAVE. Also, FUCK dolphins.

The way I've already seen uncountable "Netflix is hiring!" Ads. They're really just gonna hire scabs and pretend the WGA strike isn't happening....

This is a reminder to anyone who wants to go into screenwriting. This is not an opportunity to get your foot in the door. Do not take any writing jobs during the strike. This includes freelance or “script editing” jobs.

You will be a scab. Scabs are barred from union membership. By crossing the picket line to get your foot in the door you’ll be burning one of the most important bridges in your life. You will actively be harming your future job prospects.

This strike will end one day. Those writers who are out picketing will reenter the writers room and start producing work with the legal and financial protections and guarantees they’re fighting for, and you will not be among their ranks. You will be a scab. A traitor.

A lack of union membership will harm your prospects job wise. Do not scab. Knowledge of your scabbing, traitorous ways will cost you your ability to make friends in the industry. Do not scab. Support the WGA as they fight for your rights. Do. Not. Scab.

And a (nation approved) gofund me has been set up:

i feel like fandom would really benefit from adopting the idea of readings, as in interpretations. anyone can interpret canon as saying anything on even the most tenuous of justifications. if you interpret a detail or moment in a particular way, great! but if someone interprets that thing in another way, even in a way which directly contradicts your interpretation, that’s also okay. multiple readings can exist at once without invalidating any of them

a lot of fandom drama seems to arise from people acting as if their interpretations are True or Factual in some way, when really all anyone can do is speak to their own interpretations & experiences. which is natural! and good! many voices with many interpretations and approaches is healthy and good. the trouble is depicting a reading, which is a very personal thing, as universally true, and then getting frustrated that others don’t interpret events the same way. & i get it, that can be annoying, especially if you think those other interpretations are misunderstanding the canon. but so much of the time it’s just a different reading, taking into account details you might not have noticed or maybe just viewing them in a different light, informed by different life experiences & values & everything else that goes into a personal interpretation of a creative work

by trying to depict One Single Reading of a text as Correct, fandom loses all the nuance of interpretation & also just turns everyone into a bunch of rabid raccoons fighting over different ways to look through the same kaleidoscope

life actually gets better when you leave the house consistently btw like im serious

if you don't know where to go, just wander! go to the store and don't buy anything, go to the library just to sit and do whatever you were going to do at home, go to a park and just walk around/sit outside for a bit (weather permitting, of course)

just put some headphones in and walk around the block a couple times if you really have nothing else to do, just getting a bit of air and change of scenery is so good for you

me the first few weeks of forcing myself to go on daily walks (it gets better tho)

i really need tumblr to learn the concept of “if you physically cannot do this then this post is not talking about you” because jesus christ.

hope it’s ok for me to pull these tags out bc this is so fucking real. sometimes i am in too much pain to do anything besides go to work and go home. sometimes i feel well enough to take the elevator down to the lobby of my apartment building and sit there or outside a while. sometimes i have the strength to go on a walk in the park with my friends. i know myself and my limits and i’m getting better at respecting them. but seeing posts like this doesn’t mean “U HAVE TO GO WALK AROUND RIGHT NOW OR UR A BAD PERSON AND IF UR DISABLED THEN TOUGH SHIT U SUCK” it’s literally just “this is a thing that can help you feel better because being cooped up in the same space day in and day out can fuck with your mental health.” also if you have a caregiver they should be taking this into consideration!! disabled people who can’t get around by themselves deserve this too.

as much as i love seeing orcas launching what appears to be intentional coordinated attacks on human ships it also makes me very sad because if it starts to become a genuine problem or even an extremely minor disruption to business people are going to just start killing them and i don't know that the orcas really understand the power differential they're dealing with here. that is why i am starting an organization whose mission will be to establish communication with the orca populace and provide them with equipment and training in order to level the playing field and empower them to take control of the seas, with the potential to open up trade and diplomatic relations on their own terms

NYC Data Stories: Allyship

For when people say they’re sick of seeing gay stuff everywhere. Suck it up. 4 years. 4 years. And that’s just on the books, it’s legal. It doesn’t stop shitty attitudes, actions, or straight up violence.

don’t let birding become a wealthy people thing. you don’t need to complete a list of 500+ birds, you don’t need to travel around the world, you don’t need to have seen a species only seen by a handful of people in the wild. it’s OK to just watch the birds in your area, with or without binoculars; gatekeeping birdwatching is ridiculous and i hate to see it

there’s a huge difference between finding an occasional niche item at a thrift store that you recognize as valuable and either keep/resell and constantly combing through your local thrift stores in order to buy and resell any remotely valuable clothing. like if you recognize that a 1980s hello kitty mug or some shit is going to resell for $40 and nobody else in the whole world will know that, whatever. get that bag. you’re not depriving other people of mugs (or insert item here). but don’t try to take that mentality with you when you essentially raid the only stores in your area where poor people have a shot at nice clothes. there is a huge difference between shopping at thrift stores for yourself and coincidentally finding an item for resale and purposely wringing every bit of money you can out of someone else’s resources

"Shooting estates are good for wildlife"

"Gamebird shooting is conservation"

"Gamekeepers are conservationists and guardians of the countryside"

This is just a small selection of some of the extreme cruelty, illegal activity and harmful practices common across gamebird shooting estates. This isn't just a few bad apples, it's a systematic problem with the industry. There is no justification for any of this.

This isn't even touching on the huge numbers of foxes, stoats, weasels, crows and other predators killed legally to protect gamebirds, often using cruel methods such as snares and larsen traps. Or the fact that shooting estates are one of the biggest barriers to rewilding and restoring ecosystems in the UK.

50 million pheasants and 10 million partridges are released into the UK countryside every year. All this so that rich people can have a fun day out shooting live birds. Most of the birds shot aren't even eaten but dumped in their thousands and left to rot. It's an extremely corrupt and outdated industry.

I feel the need to emphasize that this is not a reflection of most hunting. The British in particular have a messy streak of cruel practices in the form of baggies (foxes especially) and the game bird fiasco as listed above. They’re also fond of hounding wildlife for hours, literally.

A well-regulated hunt during a given season targeting an animal which is plentiful is fine and dandy. What’s going on in Great Britain is just based off the tradition of old style British hunts. Not so coincidentally there were a good amount of extinctions anywhere the British colonized. This isn’t to say other countries didn’t do their fair share, R.I.P. passenger pigeons, but a lot of the mentality of “shoot the most of this animal to win” was passed down from British imperialism.

I would like to say the majority of people made aware of these acts of animal cruelty are against them, but it’s a rich white mans “sport” and they tend to get their way.

Absolutely this. I wouldn't even class gamebird shooting as hunting.

With pheasants, the birds are captive bred and so tame it's basically like shooting fish in a barrel. With grouse, they're left wild but encouraged to breed into artificially high numbers. Predators are killed in huge numbers to allow this, as well as any other animal that may compete for food or other resources (such as mountain hares). In both events, the birds are driven towards a line of rich people standing around with guns. Most of them never hunt outside of this and barely know how to control a gun. They're often terrible shots and many of the birds end up wounded but not killed. It's not hunting, just idiots having a good day out while firing randomly at animals for fun.

Gamekeepers themselves are just hired by the wealthy estate owner who tells them what to kill to protect the birds. They are easily replaced, so either they do what they're told or lose their job, even if they're told to commit wildlife crime. Naturally a job like this tends to attract some very unsavory people.

Ultimately it all comes from the aristocracy, who invented most of these sports as a way to have fun and pass the time. Poor people hunting for food were often severely punished as game animals were reserved for nobility. It's a messed up system that still continues to this day due to it's popularity with royals and politicians.
