Girl (2018)

There are many resources online about the dangers of binding for FTM guys, but far fewer that address the dangers of tucking.

This film, based on the youth of trans dancer Nora Monsecour and made in collaboration with her, features a young trans girl character tucking with tape in order to pass as a young woman. It is good to see that a film is drawing attention to MTF struggles, and the daily practice of flattening your groin, which can sometimes be very painful.

As an alternative to tape or bandages, I would recommend LeoLines underwear, available through Etsy. There are many reviews by trans women who recommend LeoLines panties and padded bras, and the underwear is so cleverly designed that many women report not even needing to tuck beneath the panties. (Also, as the designer of these products is a trans woman, all the marketing is aimed at trans women, and not crossdressers.)

Please do not flag this post. It is an educational post, intended for transgender girls who may watch this film and be encouraged to tuck unsafely. It is not explicit.

From the perspective of a trans woman whose closet friend is a trans man, I found this post to be extremely valuable information to have.

Okay,
A teaser has been released in this fine afternoon and I truly am trying not to look too deep into it but I Am Concerned.
From the wording and context, we can deduce that Hazel is saddened by The News™, aka Jason's death in The Burning Maze.
However,
This very much looks like an intentional spoiler.
Why? well.
1. The way her potent power, misery and figurative volcanic potential once her emotions are unlocked is described alludes to the fact that these will very likely be explored in this book. Basic storytelling. I plant the seed, then let it grow and flourish as the plot goes.
2. If you look a tad more carefully, a little sentence was thrown into the mix, one that definitely reads as foreshadowing. "I feared what would happen if Hazel's rmotions turned volcanically active"
Yeah.
Apollo already predicted things in past books, bad things usually.
Hazel is about to be tested roughly. 70% sure something is going to happen to this girl, or rather, to someone close to her and send her into anger and rage overdrive.
For now, all I am feeling in regards to the upcoming book is :

What if Earth is already the property of some galactic empire that hasn’t gotten around to settling us yet because they just purchased us off of another galactic empire a few decades ago?

What if the leaders of said empire tells its citizen to colonize Earth, and they start taking over our cities and land. They find it justifiable because we don’t use the elements in Earth’s core like they do so we don’t really own the planet.

We’re pushed to Mars, where only 1% of humanity lives in relative peace but a lot of hunger and a few international struggles, which the aliens feed into. They eventually settle Mars too, pushing us to the moons of Jupiter, then Saturn.

Eventually the empire becomes a bit nicer, and builds us a bunch of reservations throughout the solar system, though only a few of them are on Earth. Today we’re a minority in our own Solar System, mostly running Casinos on Mars or giving tours of the ruins of our once great cities. The aliens stopped calling us Meatbags though. Now they use the more respectable Native-Earthling term, though they’ll rarely acknowledge whatever nationality your ancestors had before they came.

The message of this gets over the head of a lot of people and it’s making me kinda sad.

minecraft steve is the most whitewashed character on the planet and no one talks about it

im not really saying this is done on purpose but theres really a huge discrepancy between these images

@ the people in the notes saying it’s lighting, here he is compared w an in-game in-daylight pic

It’s SUPER obvious when you compare Steve’s model to Alex’s

Steve is brown and them’s the facts!

Minecraft Steve and Jesus are the most whitewashed characters on the planet

Minecraft Steve is Jesus you fool

Joan of Arc

I mean you’re mostly right. But she looked like this

@lollady-tan She didn’t but thank you for the input!

Joan of arc is a very popular figure in media so her image is subject to a lot of bending. Sometimes it’s very subtle, and other times it’s very apparent. There’s no official pictures or paintings of her that survived from her time, but there are several trial transcripts that describe her, as well as first hand reports and letters from those who worked beside her that do the same.

The general consensus within these that I found on her appearance was that Joan was pretty short and stocky. Her eyes were far apart, and somewhat large, her hair was black/dark brown and close cut, and she had a fairly common looking face. Multiple people report that she had a red birthmark behind her left ear and a low but sweet voice. A surprising amount is written about her physical strength despite her small stature. I would suggest you read De Boulainvilliers’ (Chamberlain to Charles VII) letters, among others. He knew her first hand and goes into a lot of depth about her appearance and aura.

A big part of her rebranding is making her seem older, more feminine, paler, and blonder. Due to color/racism as well as light representing purity, renditions of her make her whiter (she was a poor farmer from mid/south France which means she was on the darker side of white complexions) to show holiness. People also make her more feminine due to stigma against women who “don’t look like women” and to lean into her Virgin Mary esk aura.

(Here’s two paintings I found that more accurately represent her image)

not to be like anti-neurotypical or whatever but adhd people with hyperfixtations and autistic people with special interests are like, literally the core of any fandom. all those fics and comics and askblogs that update daily with no signs of stopping? those theory and other fandom blogs that post content so often you wonder how much free time they have? listen, it’s amazing what you can get done when it’s literally the only thing you fucking think about. appreciate your local autistic/adhd content creators.

The world is a terrifying place but at least the erupting volcano of Mayon is waking the ancients to remind us of our place

Quick note: original art is by Kerby Rosanes

Link to the original post here on the artist’s IG

Another note: This is in reference to the Filipino legend from Albay called “Daragang Magayon” [literally translated into “beautiful maiden”, with “daraga” meaning “maiden” and “magayon” meaning “beautiful”]

She’s a folk heroine, whose love story can be read here

It is said that her lover, Panganoron, is the clouds that surround Mt. Mayon’s peak, while she is herself the volcano, which has always been seen as remarkably beautiful in shape

It’s said that the volcano grew where they were buried together

Which is why the shape of two lovers seen in the smoke of its most recent eruption is so culturally significant.

And really, really cool.
