there is a very real tendency of teenagers with anxiety disorders self diagnosing with considerably more stigmatized and impairing mental illnesses (e.g. schizophrenia, DID, personality disorders), but the best response to that isn't to get angry with them for "appropriating" lol. instead you show them coping resources for the problems they're actually having and deemphasize diagnostic categories in general. if an 18 year old is claiming to have alzheimer's, they're probably making an innocent mistake and are in genuine distress. be kind.

Also I think this trend comes, at least in part, from how brushed aside anxiety disorders can be. If your parents and teachers dismiss you with 'oh everyone feels anxious', then inevitably you're going to start thinking that there must be something else going on with you

This is why I have this. Even if they can get the lock opened they can’t push the door open. Got it at Lowes for $20.

reblog for that last bit to save a life

If you’re like me and have a large gap under your front door (someone could take a stick and just poke the leaning stick style door jam out), I recommend the Addalock. It’s small, perfect for traveling, and this lock is CRAZY. It’s so simple but the door does not move.

You can’t see it from the other side, either. It also cost about $20, and I can’t recommend it enough. Easy to travel with, too! Great for Air BnBs!

That’s why I have these on my doors. They get drilled into the side and once its flipped over the door nothing is getting it open. Not the door being unlocked nothing, I’ve unlocked the door and pulled and pushed as hard as I could and it didn’t budge. When I go on a trip this is what I use and when I’m home I leave it on too. No one is getting in here.

Okay I know that it is necessary for many but what do you do if you need medical attention and you’re not able to open the door from the inside? Can the fire department get through these at least?

Yes. The fire department can and will break down your door if necessary, it’s one of the reasons they have axes; it’s entirely possible for door frames to melt/expand/seize or otherwise become unopenable during a house fire but the door itself can be hacked down. Or the window. In rare cases, the wall. Firefighters don’t fuck around with collateral damage when lives are at stake.

Sharing for all the safety items!!

Reminder that when you're driving and there's weather like fog, snow, or rain, turn your headlights on. It doesn't help you to see better, no, but it does help other cars to see you, preventing accidental collisions from literally just not seeing another car.

This goes for everyone but especially "neutral" colored cars like gray, silver, white, black, and even just dark colors like dark blue. Cars with those colors blend into the road whenever visibility is low. Turn your headlights on. Let other cars know where you are.

Notice the car which you can see ONLY its headlights

(Pic from a search, I did not take a pic while driving )

[ID: a photo of various cars driving in fog. One of the cars is entirely obscured by the fog, except for its active headlights. End ID]

bringing this back to remind everyone that snow is also a visibility hazard, not just a skid hazard. Please turn your lights on!

Have u guys noticed just how much the Encanto village adores Mirabel? Obviously the little kids flock to her in “The Family Madrigal” but you’ll also notice that all the adults are happy to see her, super happy to join in her song (“Grandkid Roundup!”), and there’s that bit where the band just. tosses her an accordion. Like “FUCK YEA IT’S MIRABEL LET’S MAKE SOME MUSIC!” The “not-special special” was super awkward and rude but if you think about it, it does mean that this guy in the village thought to himself that Mirabel would probably be feeling bad today and she should get something special for herself to cheer her up. “We don’t talk about Bruno” unless Mirabel asks then we’ll tell her whatever she wants to know. The last thing they all heard was that Mirabel might destroy the magic that’s been keeping us safe for years and then the Casita crumbles and mountains break and nobody even bats an eye they’re just like “well let’s go help them rebuild the house” with not a single accusation that it could be Mirabel’s fault. After she disappears everyone is looking for her, apparently all night. Poor girl thinks she’s a useless disappointment but literally everyone in town thinks she’s the shit.

oh yeah i remember this, couldn’t reveal all this at the time because it was too personally identifiable but

their story in the post is that they stole some anne rice books or whatever because the bitch librarians told them that it wasn’t appropriate for a little girl and they’re getting email about a $5000 fine 10 years later. had a feeling i could prove it was false so I messaged them about it, asked them what specific “hick-fuckville louisiana” it was, presumably they had to quickly look one up and had the bad luck of choosing the town with the library that I worked at at the time. our fines expired after 18 months and had a cap of $100, we didn’t even keep user data for cards that haven’t been used in more than 4 years

Izzy Wheels was founded by Irish sisters Ailbhe (pronounced Alva) and Izzy Keane. The pair grew up in Galway, a beautiful seaside city in the west of Ireland famous for its colourful winding streets.

The idea was inspired by Izzy, who was born with Spina Bifida and is paralyzed from her waist down. Izzy has always seen her wheelchair as a symbol of freedom but never felt it expressed her personality. Ailbhe created a range of colourful wheel covers for her sister’s chair as her final year project in The National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in 2016.

Izzy and Ailbhe have been best friends all their lives. They have always loved fashion and playing dress-up together. Even as little girls their favourite thing to do was decorating Izzy’s chair for special occasions.

Having decorated wheels has always given Izzy a huge confidence boost. The vibrant wheels open up a positive conversation about her wheelchair and act as a conversation starter.

In 2017 began collaborating with other amazing artists, designers, and brands from around the world to expand their collections and raise money for disability charities. Izzy Wheels have now collaborated with 90 famous designers from across the globe. The sisters quickly became well-known for their exuberant and playful fashion.

Every pair of Izzy Wheels is specially made to order for each person. All of the wheel covers are unique and made with love in Ireland. Every order is carefully hand-wrapped in beautiful luxury rainbow packaging that has been thoughtfully designed.

Izzy Wheels became the first disability fashion brand to collaborate with some of the world’s most famous brands.

In 2019 they teamed up with Barbie to create a range of designs for a new and inclusive wheelchair Fashionista Doll.

In 2020 they created two limited edition wheel cover collections with Japanese pop icon Hello Kitty.

Izzy Wheels has been featured in some of the world’s top global publications including Vogue, Teen Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Forbes, Oprah Magazine, It’s Nice That, TechCrunch and many more. The brand has won 15 national awards and both sisters were named on Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2018.
