Dark and Twisty

@coldheartlesssoul

Welcome to a world, where being yourself isn't good enough.

Saw a video of a video of a lady on tiktok pretending to be deaf to avoid the attentions of some "admirers" while traveling abroad. It was questionable, but it does give me the idea of Lena being fluent in ASL, and using it to ignore people she doesn't want to deal with.

So, say Lena and Sam are traveling, and some dudes start pestering them for greetings/pictures/attention. Lena slips into fluent ASL, legit explaining to them that she's deaf (she is not), and Sam trying not to laugh as she's plays along and translates.

The men eventually move on, but when Lena later goes to the bathroom, she's caught on her way out by the same guys who try to press their luck again. They're drunker this time, and ignore her signing as they leer closer and closer into her personal space.

Just as Lena is about to panic and abandon the charade in favor of telling them off, she hears a call from across the bar.

"Hey!"

The next thing she knows, Lena is wrapped up in a warm hug from a person taller than her but also female, who smells so so good.

When the woman draws away, Lena catches a glimpse of a beautiful face before her rescuer turns to her would be assailants.

"Can I help you?"

Lena nearly chokes at the sound of accented English, the slightly warped, slightly too loud words those of someone who is *actually* hard of hearing.

Then men try to explain that they're friends, but before Lena can deny it, the woman cuts in with a loud "I can't hear you", signing as she goes.

Quickly losing interest in a woman who can speak-- with her voice, loudly-- the men soon drift away, giving the woman room to turn back to Lena.

"Are you okay?"

Then, before Lena can reply...

"Sorry for the hug. Looked like you needed an out."

Lena grins. "I did, thank you. But I have a confession-- I'm not actually deaf."

The woman's smile only deepens. "Well, you sign beautifully."

Lena flushes a light pink. "I have a friend waiting outside. Can we buy you a drink?"

"My sister is already at the bar-- maybe we should buy you one."

Kara turns a little sheepish then.

"Actually... can we? It's rare that I find a stranger who can sign."

Lena nervously nibbles her lip, then makes an executive decision.

"That would be lovely."

Kara landed through the window.

“Kara? Oh god, darling.” Lena breathed out as she stood up and finally saw her wife.

Kara was clutching her side. Her whole face was riddled of little cuts and one deeper gash above her right eye. Her suit was… torn. You could barely make out the crest anymore. The left sleeve had been completely ripped off, leaving her whole arm exposed.

Kara didn’t say a thing. She just limped to Lena; both were on the verge of tears.

Finally, Kara fell into her wife’s arms, holding on for dear life.

“It’s okay darling. You’re home.” Lena rubbed what she hoped were soothing circles on the blonde’s back.

Kara buried her nose in Lena’s neck and breathed in her lavender-mint scent.

“I am now”

Many many ideas ago, I had an idea I started writing but never posted, and now I have no idea where I was planning to take it, but BASICALLY.

Before Kara's confession of her identity, but after Lex tells Lena the truth, Lena is still in the processing period where she's trying to work out how she feels about it, besides the overwhelming hurt.

When she's abducted for several days, Lena's not totally concerned. Now knowing who Kara is, Lena knows she's going to be Supergirl. It's only a matter of when.

Even so, several days being bound to a chair would wear down anyone. She's been treated relatively well, all things considered, but that doesn't mean she isn't exhausted, and generally just done by the time Supergirl shows up and frees her.

Kara, of course, is beside herself with worry, and frets over Lena. Are you harmed, did they hurt you, do you need medical attention...

"I'm fine," Lena says curtly.

But Kara doesn't let up, and Lena just snaps.

"Please, Kara, just take me home."

Supergirl finally relents, and it kills Lena when her arms open to bring her close, as though flying her home were the most natural thing in the world.

Then it clicks.

Supergirl's freezes for the faintest of heartbeats, before her eyes go wide with horror. But as she opens her mouth to speak, Lena just can't.

"Please. I'm tired. I just want to go home."

Lena can see the conflict in Kara's eyes, mingling with the same heartbreak that Lena's been struggling with for months.

Because that's the true cruelty of Lex's reveal, isn't it, Lena muses.

It's not just that he revealed Kara for a fraud-- it's that he stole Kara's chance to confess it herself.

Something that could have been so precious, so intimate, gone with a snap of his fingers.

In the end, Kara silently gathers Lena up and delivers her to the balcony of Lena's apartment. Only then, once Lena is safely out of her arms and standing on her own two feet does Kara try again to speak.

"Lena, I--"

The snick of Lena's balcony door sliding shut behind her mutes whatever Kara is about to say. Lena moves towards the bathroom, ready for a long shower.

She shuts the living room lights off behind her, and doesn't give the balcony so much as a second glance.

@ahhhsami I hope I'm not too late to submit this for your giveaway but I didn't have many supplies so... it took a minute
