Bonus:

Remember that time Serena was too gay to function?

The way her eyes roam across Bernie’s body and hands, she then looks away and takes a deep breath and slowly exhales and licks her lips, mhm, yep! You’re so far gone Serena Campbell.

Or perhaps finger porn

I feel like Bernie doesn’t give Serena enough credit; she had an opportunity to pull away after that first kiss, to tell Bernie she’s flattered but it’s not for her. But Serena kisses her back!! You can see the half second where she hesitates, after all this doesn’t line up with how her life has been at all. But then she does it! Because she wanted to.

I also love that you can see her fall into their second kiss too, and this time you can sort of see her smiling in relief.

this whole awkward hallway stepney confession comes about because serena doesn’t want to offend bernie and drive her away while she figures it out. it’s so clear serena already wants this, it’s just moving too fast.

so bernie throws her a lifeline – “i promise not to turn theatre into a sapphic angst fest” – and serena is so relieved, just look at the third gif. she hears bernie saying “it’s okay, i still want you with me, nothing else has changed.” and i swear to god, right here, this is where serena makes the choice that this is what she wants, that she can do this, because it’s bernie so it’ll be awkward but it’ll be fine.

meanwhile, bernie. all she’s seen all day has been serena confused and lowkey freaking out, withdrawing from the professional partnership that is the foundation of their entire relationship. all bernie has been after in these conversations is finding out if serena’s okay, or if she’s done serious damage. then she offers to put it aside, to go back to saving lives together, and serena looks at her like she hung the damn stars.

look at gif #4 and tell me this isn’t exactly when bernie decides to keep it “confined to theatre.” the responsible choice, to keep what they have and avoid heartache. it’s disappointing, but not very, because she never expected other than that. no angst. certainly no sappho.

and then in theatre, they’re flirting and having fun and both of them think, about their totally opposite decisions, how great this is, being comfortable with each other, and think: i made the right call.
