Owwwww

I have had a hectic week and haven't had the time to dedicate to my pain relief habits - Now having 9/10 pain as a result 😔

At times like this, I wish I was normal, or could at least press pause for these types of days 😔

Time to start afresh again

My pain relief habits (if anyone is interested and as a reminder to myself!)

1) SLEEP:

* Aim for between seven and nine hours each night

* Be in bed before midnight on weeknights (and weekends if possible)

2) NUTRITION:

* Eat an anti-inflammatory diet as much as possible

3) PELVIC PHYSIOTHERAPY:

* Do the exercises as recommended by my physiotherapist

4) EXERCISE:

* Working towards forty minutes, four times a week

* Two sessions of restorative yoga

* Two walks

* Stretches every day

5a) MEDITATION:

* Meditate each day for at least ten minutes

* Body scan meditation at bedtime

5b) PSYCHOLOGICAL THERAPY:

* Curable app

* Reframing thoughts

* Seeing a therapist when necessary

Sigh...

The new teaching year begins tomorrow, and for the first time ever, I don't want to go back. I don't mean like "I wish my holidays were longer" or "I wish I could win the lottery" sort of ideas - I genuinely don't want to face the drama in my department. I am currently relaxed and content, with a low-level pain of a 5/10, 6/10. The stress of even thinking about interacting with two particular colleagues makes me start to clench up and causes ripples of pain throughout my body.

I love my job - Put me in front of kids in a classroom and let me teach them a thing. There is nothing better than creating those connections and seeing kids flourish.

I hate my job - The politics from admin and colleagues is draining. It is nerve-racking trying to make sure you tick every goddamn box every single day.

Honestly, I'm committed to staying in my job for the next six years, until my youngest graduates from our school - My town is so tiny that we only have one high school of around 500 students. I just hope that I can get past this funk and start enjoying my job again.

What are you grateful for today?

Welcome to my gratitude support group! All are welcome to be a part of the gratitude crew. Re-blog, write a note or send an ask as often as makes sense for you (just once, every day, twice a year, a few times a month— doesn’t matter!)

I tag some of the crew several times a week. If you’d like to be on the tag list let me know.

All posts will be tagged ‘resiliencewithin’s daily gratitude group’.

Prompt (if you want): No prompt today.

I am so grateful that I get to spend this weekend by myself, just me and my cat. I love and adore my husband and kids to distraction, but I desperately needed a break from the noise before teaching starts again next week.

For the 'talk about' asks: 8 and 39

Thanks for the return questions 😊

8: Talk about the thing you are most proud of -

It definitely has to be my two sons, Mr 11 and Mr 14. It has been the joy of my life to watch them grow from tiny bubbas into the ever-taller preteen and teen years. They are both curious about the world with a truly wicked sense of humour. Each kiddo has had to overcome a number of physical and mental health issues - Mr 11 has mild cerebral palsy, anxiety and is currently being assessed for ADHD inattentive type; Mr 14 has coeliac disease and is neurodivergent (we suspect high-functioning autism). I love each of them so very much even though they so often drive me crazy 💙💚

39: Talk about things I wish I'd known earlier -

I wish that I had known how amazingly useful psychological therapy would be for me. I grew up in the 80s and 90s, when it was very rare for people to seek counselling for their problems. I also now recognise that I was dealing with anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation - All things that absolutely could have been helped with therapy. Instead I struggled and thought that there was something wrong with me, and no-one else understood. It took until I developed severe postnatal anxiety and depression (leading to two extended involuntary hospital stays) before I first accessed psychological services. This was an absolute paradigm shift, and I have been an outspoken advocate for mental health treatment ever since.

"talk about" is a lot cuter than ask me

1: Talk about the first time you watched your favorite movie. 2: Talk about your first kiss. 3: Talk about the person you’ve had the most intense romantic feelings for. 4: Talk about the thing you regret most so far. 5: Talk about the best birthday you’ve had. 6: Talk about the worst birthday you’ve had. 7: Talk about your biggest insecurity. 8: Talk about the thing you are most proud of. 9: Talk about little things on your body that you like the most. 10: Talk about the biggest fight you’ve ever had. 11: Talk about the best dream you’ve ever had. 12: Talk about the worst dream you’ve ever had. 13: Talk about the first time you had sex/how you imagine your first time. 14: Talk about a vacation. 15: Talk about the time you were most content in life. 16: Talk about the best party you’ve ever been to. 17: Talk about someone you want to be friends with. 18: Talk about something that happened in elementary school. 19: Talk about something that happened in middle school. 20: Talk about something that happened in high school. 21: Talk about a time you had to turn someone down. 22: Talk about your worst fear. 23: Talk about a time someone turned you down. 24: Talk about something someone told you that meant a lot. 25: Talk about an ex-best friend. 26: Talk about things you do when you’re sick. 27: Talk about your favorite part of someone else’s body. 28: Talk about your fetishes. 29: Talk about what turns you on. 30: Talk about what turns you off. 31: Talk about what you think death is like. 32: Talk about a place you remember from your childhood. 33: Talk about what you do when you are sad. 34: Talk about the worst physical pain you’ve endured. 35: Talk about things you wish you could stop doing. 36: Talk about your guilty pleasures. 37: Talk about someone you thought you were in love with. 38: Talk about songs that remind you of certain people. 39: Talk about things you wish you’d known earlier. 40: Talk about the end of something in your life.

Prompt (if you want): What is something you would be grateful to get rid of or do/have less of in your life? Maybe this is the first step to making that move.

I would be grateful if I could lose my temper less. I was raised with a mum who was notoriously hot-headed and have always vowed I wouldn't be that person. I try hard not to, but some days it's so hard.

I love living in my little country town, but bushfire season is genuinely so bad for my anxiety. My cat and I are the only ones at home and there is a fire ten kilometres away - We are in the Watch Zone. I have bags packed and a plan in place, but it is so incredibly stressful.

Oh and I'm having a high pain day but can't sleep in case I miss a warning upgrade, or take the appropriate pain meds because they'll make me too dopey to drive.

I am grateful to finally have a conclusive health diagnosis. It sucks that it's a big and lifelong condition, but now I know how and what to seek treatment for!

I'm getting more into dresses and wore this beautiful new one today! I felt cute and comfortable, then my mother-in-law said archly, "It's a bit short for a mum of two teenagers isn't it?"

It finished just above my knees.

Some people are determined to be storm clouds on a sunny day 😔

A Christmas Eve like no other...

Mr 11 tripped over and banged his head into the edge of a chest of drawers. Three hours in the ER and ten stitches later, he's back home and feeling okay. My husband and I, not so much!
