“Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.”
-Mother Teresa
And only when the bright shine of her smile was burned in my brain did I know it would all be okay.
Meet my dog, Thai. I grew up in China and we always traveled to Thailand for the school holidays. It was where I learned to swim, made a bunch of friends that I still talk to, and was always a place that felt like a second home. I move around so much that I never feel like I’m truly at home base, so Thailand filled that gap. Wherever my family is, I feel like I’m home, so we named our puppy after that feeling.
This is a picture of one of my best friends from Seattle. We had a little photoshoot in my plastic-covered house while it was being renovated and the light hit her face just right, making her look like the glowing goddess that she is. I edited this to make it look like a retro movie by increasing the grain and softening her face.
These girls laugh like they’re in a soap opera, loudly and dramatically. Like a flickering laugh track in the background of a Disney show, and look like geese doing it. :)
Sometimes, one must take a minute to focus, not on the content of the picture, but on how you felt in the process. In this particular shot, I hadn’t known her for long and was intimidated by her natural beauty, but when she laughed at my jokes and my weird poses, I sank into the pillow of a pure friendship.
I told her a bad joke about a dead man and Bigfoot to make her laugh for a candid photo. I think she only laughed because I couldn’t finish telling the joke through my own laughter, but seeing a smile slowly crawl to her lips as I choked my way through the joke made me glow inside.
Engulfed in beams of sunlight, she stared at her own ethereal gaze in the mirror, only seeing imperfection.
All we think about is standing on the same plane, leaving no time to explore other fronts, and we lose ourselves in the process.
