Even Weird Al has had that™ experience with Tony Hawk

Tony Hawk IS Forrest Gump

So I looked up why and how this happened, and it turns out Weird Al hired a company called Birdhouse Skateboards to provide some “skate/punk” extras for the video. Birdhouse Skateboards is a company started by Tony Hawk, so not only did Weird Al end up putting Tony Hawk in his video without realizing it, he actually hired Tony Hawk’s company without realizing it! And then Tony Hawk just decided to go along as one of the extras himself.

BTW, he’d already won like 40 contests already, some of them international skateboarding contests. So it’s not like Weird Al cast some unknown skateboarder who ended up becoming World Famous Skateboarder, he was already well known and was running his own Skateboarding company.

Think of it this way. This wasn’t ‘Weird Al got Tony Hawk to be in his video’, this was ‘Tony Hawk found a way to be in a Weird Al Video.’

The chance that Tony Hawk has infiltrated your location or piece of media is low

BUT NEVER ZERO.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pointed out that many young people are concerned about having kids because climate change will make the planet increasingly uninhabitable.

Fuck fox news bro. Rich people playing dumb to influence poor people to be dumb

There’s hardly been such a blatant and clear example of how biased media outlets twist things… this should be in a damn text book on propaganda

Her: kids are scared about the future and wonder if they could have a family with how terrible the world is

Rich ppl: sounds like communist China :^/

I want to point out that “maybe these aren’t stable conditions to raise children in” sends rich people, nationalist/fascist people, religious fundamentalist people into the same kind of panic and demonstrates the most basic level they are allied on: baby farming.

Rich people farm babies because they need to ensure that their own children will live in the same type of deeply unequal society as they did and thus can inherit their wealth and be assured that there are enough workers to ensure that it maintains the same value. Even if they do not create ideal conditions for raising children, they demand you replace yourself with a new person to toil away for them, and to need their resources and have to buy shit to survive, anyway.

Nationalists/Fascists farm babies because they believe that controlling the family sphere is the best way to control information and to produce armies and police that enforce their legitimacy. If they are isolationists, they want to stop all migratory populations which means they are extremely vulnerable to the population aging faster than it can reproduce. In the racist context they also believe in both out-populating what they see as inferior races, but they also on the quiet don’t want their enemies to stop having kids either because that means they won’t be able to exploit future generations for free labor, or have an “other” accessible to scare their kids over.

Religious fundamentalists farm babies because they believe that population under a religion determines its strength and sphere of influence and they would rather have a noncompetitive time of it by breeding more followers rather than trying to appeal to converts, whom they distrust. You can see this in certain organized fertility movements like Quiverfull, etc. Many fundamentalists fear that as religion becomes more voluntary and personal, rather than an obligation under threat of violence, the power and influence of religion will shrink.

All three of these interests oppose accessible and free health care, family planning and reproductive rights. All of these interests have significant reasons for opposing the right to a safe, accessible, and nonjudgmental abortion, as well as the right to safe, accessible, and nonjudgmental prenatal care and post-natal child support, and in the USA, universal parental leave.

It may seem counter-intuitive that people who farm babies might want to make it hard to be a new parent but consider that setting a precedent for public assistance in one direction also sets it in the other. Instead, they prefer forms of influence like fox news up there that mostly do not have to take responsibility for the welfare of the people, but instead can just sway public opinion to vote against their own health and safety, or sway the public to uncritically accept actions pushed by far-right lobbyists.

Any interest that promotes hierarchy promotes it from the cradle to the grave.

hey uhhh but fr the concept of fallen angels existing but risen demons being an impossibility is kind of a great summary of sin in christianity

holy shit

no, no, come back here and tell me how stupid it is to talk about how the power dynamics inherent to christianity are built upon the rhetoric that failure is unavoidable and there is never enough you can do to make up for it

Autistic Burnout : A Guide

What is Autisic Burnout?

When an autistic person is in burnout, it means that they are experiencing extreme mental, physical, and/or sensory exhaustion.

This exhaustion can stem from a variety of places, especially from masking, and can lead to an even larger variety of symptoms.

  • It can last a few hours or several years
  • It can be the result of a slow build-up or it can hit suddenly
  • The effects of burnout (especially loss of skills) are more likely to be permanent if the burnout has lasted several years
  • It is more common in adolescents and adults
  • It is different than neurotypical burnout and regular depression
  • It affects every area of your life
  • It requires more time to recover

What Causes Autistic Burnout?

  • Masking
  • Too high of expectations
  • Lack of support
  • High intensity interactions (concert, party)
  • Prolonged interaction (school, work)
  • Sensory overload
  • Suppressing autistic traits
  • Operating beyond capacity
  • Not being able to recover from or cope with stress at the beginning signs
  • Change

What are the Signs of Autistic Burnout?

  • Anxiety
  • Increased shutdowns or meltdowns
  • Depression
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Little to no motivation
  • Loss of interest
  • Loss of basic skills
  • Exhaustion
  • Increased executive dysfunction
  • Difficulties with memory, communicating or sleep
  • Easily triggered/overstimulated
  • Headaches/migraines
  • You may seem "more autistic"
  • Difficulties in making decisions
  • Low attention span

How to Prevent/Cope with Autistics Burnout

  • Accommodations (in work, school, and everyday life)
  • Say no
  • Find community (on social media or in person)
  • Take breaks (often)
  • Let autistic traits breathe
  • Get rid of expectations
  • Therapy (especially for prolonged burnout)
  • Leave, even if it seems rude
  • Engage in simple self-care
  • Learn to manage energy
  • Stim
  • Ask for help
  • Rest
  • Set boundaries
  • Put yourself first
  • Identify your triggers

Autistic burnout is largely fueled by having to navigate a world that was not made for us. And so, burnout is nearly inevitable for autistics.

Burnout is exhausting, overwhelming and scary. It is something a lot of is deal with on a daily basis without even realising what it is. It has become our normal way of existing.

Recovering from, preventing, and coping with burnout is not a quick and easy fix. It is a lifetime process of taking care of and being gentle with ourselves. Which is hard, my dudes, not gonna lie.

But we're some tough sons of bitches.

also like, idk how to tell y'all this but...

dehumanizing *anyone* is bad. it doesn't matter if they're "the oppressor" or they have societal power over you. if you get to a point where you look at *anyone* and you don't see a human being with thoughts and feelings and internal motivations, if you get to a point where you look at an individual person and see

"the oppressor" or someone that you feel 100% completely comfortable doing violence against without hesitation or consideration...

that's actually bad. Social justice is not and should never be about trying to figure out who it's okay to do violence against. Nor is it about "flipping the tables".

As an addition… Dehumanising actual human evil (“x was a monster!”) is comforting but dangerous if taken seriously. Humans are easily manipulated. Despite it all, we want to believe the best about each other. If you tell people that evil will always look monstrous, it’s like telling people that cults will always look like the cults on TV: it leaves them vulnerable to manipulation.

We are all capable of being the oppressor. It’s only a matter of how oppressing others might be packaged and sold to us as being for the right reasons. If you think “well, I wouldn’t be fooled” then you’re only proving that you slept through history class.

The world is complex. Doubt anyone who tries to tell you there are simple answers.

That last addition is painfully relevant given the re-emergence of Nazism and fascism.

People spent too long dehumanizing Nazis of WW2 (”Oh those people were clearly monsters, I’d never do that! I’d never be fooled!” or “I’d never tolerate that!”) that now they’re ignoring it when it’s right in front of them...

^^^ This is exactly one of the things I was thinking about when I wrote the OP. Nazis and fascists got made into such cartoonishly monstrous villains that people only know nazi = bad and don't seem to know anything about what the nazis actually thought and so, they're being taken in by fascist propaganda.

unfortunately I’m watching supernatural and someone on screen said ‘there are No Wolves in pennsylvania’ and I was like. what a bold incorrect statement. where did they possibly get that idea from. so I googled it…google is insisting there are no wild wolves in pa?? except I’ve Seen wolves here?? there used to be a wolf that would hang out in my backyard and roam around the neighborhood?? like Everyone knew about this wolf we assumed he lived on the golf course and would come to our yards if he got spooked by golfers (very quiet block). like we all thought he just lost his pack or whatever so people just gave him a wide space and let him chill, he didn’t try to break into any houses or attack any pets but this was definitely. a wild wolf. where. where did he come from what do you MEAN there aren’t wolves in pennsylvania I’m literally spiraling right now

still feeling so gut-punched over this

To be fair, PA also said “we did not reintroduce mountain lions, they are not there, you’re seeing really big house cats, please keep coming to the parks and camp sites and ignore that video, that was totally not a mountain lion, someone took last week”

okay I’m sorry but this came up on pinterest and I Screamed

you are the state of Pennsylvania (allegedly)

i just showed this to a friend from pennsylvania and 1. theyre losing their mind bc theyve seen mountain lions which prompted them to look it up which leads me to 2. this fucking bonkers article

[caption: “We’ve been here 45 years and I’ve probably been told by people at least 100 t imes that they’ve seen a cougar or mountain lion,” said owner Vince Hall. “I kind of doubt they saw a cougar, but I’m not God.”]

PA: I can’t believe we’ve lost all our native apex predators Citizens of PA: there’s a mountain lion right there PA: sometimes we can still hear the sound of them scaring away tourists

…PA has fucking EMUS and you want me to believe we have no wolves or mountain lions?

what the fuck do you mean we have emus

Guys, I’ve cracked it

This thing goes all the way to the top

what the fuck is happening in pennsylvania

As a regretful born and raised Pennsylvanian, we have wolves, coywolves, mountain lions, lynx, and coyotes. Not a single person in authority will admit to there being anything but coyotes and lynx. If you see a cougar, they will tell you you saw a lynx. If you see a wolf, they will tell you you saw a coyote. Ignore the massive differences in sizes. No one knows what a coywolf is but we have them. I have seen a cougar with my own two goddamned eyes. There is an entire nature park whose main attractions are the cougars and wolves (and bison but we’re not talking about them) - it’s called Penn’s Cave, it’s been there forever. Everyone I know has seen a cougar or wolf at least once in the woods.

So what I’m getting at is don’t trust the government.
