Just thinking about how republicans are going after normie sex shit like "internet porn" and "dildos" now

we fucking told y'all

to be clear: the right views any sex that isn't purely procreative as deviant. it's not just kink, or queer sex they find abhorrent. And they genuinely believe that the better educated you are about sex in general, including about gender shit, the more deviant you are. they're legitimately trying to claw everyone down to hell with them.

Now? Before 2003 it was legit technically illegal in some states for even straight couples to have oral or anal sex, and there are still laws in some states restricting how many dildos you can own etc.

I don't really know what the goal is with putting a numerical limit on dildos, but with republicans the answer is usually "There isn't one. Die."

This is your periodic reminder that it is currently right now illegal in the united states to own porn that the average person in your community would be offended by. That's the legal definition of obscenity (a piece of media that 1. Exists to turn people on 2. has no other "redeeming" purpose and 3. would be offensive to most people in your jurisdiction) and you can theoretically be arrested and go to jail for owning "obscene" media or giving it to other people.

"But that's ridiculous," you say, "porn that the average taxpayer would think was ~offensive~ is absolutely fuckin' everywhere, on the internet and in real life, and nobody gets in trouble for it." And you'd be right about that. Realistically, this is a law that cannot be enforced: it is way too easy to break, way too hard to track, and way too many people are interested in breaking it.

Same with the pre-Lawrence v. Texas laws against "sodomy" that headspace-hotel is talking about. Yeah, it was illegal to give a blowjob in the privacy of your own home. But of course most people who like blowjobs never even thought twice about those laws, because it's usually pretty easy to Not tell a cop what you do in the privacy of your bedroom with your spouse.

"So if laws like this don't actually stop people from doing whatever sexual things they want to do, why are you concerned about it? You just said these laws don't hurt anybody, right?" Here's the thing. The purpose of laws like this is to create an atmosphere where you can get away with doing ""deviant"" things... if you hide it from polite society, if you keep it secret, if you know your place.

What you can't do is go out in public and say that actually gay people can have happy relationships, or that masturbating sometimes doesn't make you a depraved sex addict, or that it's okay to want to enjoy having sex and not just do it as your Duty To Your Husband.

You can get away with doing what you want in private if you never challenge the dominant cultural message that what you're doing is gross and immoral and people who do it are disgusting freaks. If you dare to speak up and point out that your ""shameful secret"" is actually normal, off you go to jail.

That's the purpose of laws like this. To make it impossible to challenge the rhetorical stranglehold of conservative christianity on society. To shift the Overton window once and for all to the right. And that's why we need to fight laws like this with all our strength, every time the right tries to push them forward, even when the specifics are stuff like "you can't own more than five dildoes" that might seem like a silly thing to go to war over. It's not about the specifics. It's about limiting everyone's speech to things a conservative preacher would say from the pulpit.

The other thing laws like this are good for is giving the police excuses

Younger Americans NEED to understand why Lawrence vs Texas went to the Supreme Court.

In 2003, police raided the private home of two gay men and charged them with sodomy. I cannot emphasize enough that THEY WERE NOT CURRENTLY HAVING SEX AT ALL when the police raided them. But the cops had “probable cause” to believe that they had, at some point, had non-procreative sex, which was illegal under Texas’s sodomy law, so they were charged with a crime.

Ultimately, the SCOTUS ruled that sodomy laws are unconstitutional because US citizens have a right to privacy: what consenting adults do in their own homes is their own business.

What you need to know is that in four states, including Texas and. Missouri, sodomy laws are still on the books. That means that if SCOTUS strikes down Lawrence vs Texas, these laws immediately go back into effect, and more states can add their own.

What would that look like?

If you’re on Tinder and your profile says you’re gay or bi, the police can subpoena your profile and use it to arrest you.

If you’re on Scruff or Grindr, the police can subpoena your location data and messages and use them to track down and arrest you and all your hookups.

If you’re in a same-sex marriage, the police can subpoena a list of same-sex marriage certificates and arrest every single couple—even if they’re widowed or divorced.

If your school has an LGBTQ club, the police can subpoena a list of members and arrest kids & college students.

They could subpoena data from FetLife and Facebook and Twitter and, yes, if they thought to do so, Tumblr. Rainbow flag in your profile? They’re drawing up charges.

And all of these people getting arrested and charged with sodomy, when convicted, will not only have their lives ruined by jail time, but will also likely be labeled sex offenders for the rest of their lives.

This is not ancient history. This was not “back in the day.” I WAS IN COLLEGE WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

And the Republicans are frothing at the fucking mouth to bring these horrors back.

Every time I feel insecure in public I remember not only is there definitely someone being way cringier and more annoying than me, they’re probably getting paid for it.

This is an anti vlogger post

One of the best letters I’ve ever seen just popped up on my Facebook memories. Still makes me laugh.

As today is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, it’s a great time to revisit Dinah from Devon’s memory of this historic event. And yes, still makes me laugh.

Today is the 54th anniversary of the moon landing, but Dinah’s diary entry is still absolutely magnificent.

The completely successful normalisation of left handedness in my native culture with zero negative consequences is inspiring to me. It is a deepseated neurological feature! Which correlates with lots of important facts about a person! And was the focus of a long history of violent brain-damaging child abuse! And now is so completely unremarkable as to hardly even be interesting

Today’s youth (at least here) don’t remember it but the times when left-handed people were forced to use his right hand are not that far. My grandpa is forcibly-taught right-hander (as we call them here) and he’s 84. My dad who’s 52 would be forced right-hander if he was like 5 years older.

Like, it’s not sone überdistant future. Dexterity is doom. Sinister people gained freedom mere 50 years ago. And I’m pretty sure there are places where they’re still oppressed and forced right.

This isn’t a joke. This is 100% the truth. My grandma was beaten by teachers as a child for being lefty. She rebelled and is still a lefty today as point of pride.

my gran was left handed and got so abused for it that she still hates writing at the age of 78. She still writes with her right hand too, and complains that she could never learn to draw. Cruelty inflicted in the past is still hurting in the present.

My husband told me that he didn’t know You Need To Calm Down by Taylor Swift was about gay people. He was vibing so hard with just the music that he didn’t process the lyrics at all

Slowly figuring out what people think my music taste is based on looking at me. So far country music and screamo are out.

“but shrouded black figures are scary!” not when ur muslim. its the funniest fucking thing. this is labeled on pinterest under shit like “classic horror” “scary phone wallpaper”

but that LITERALLY just looks like a niqabi or someone in a jilbab. Like Look at this pic of me (from a self photoshoot, now w/o the dramatic lighting and dark background)

or this pic of me

or this pic of me

like its so funny i can’t be scared of shrouded figures it just looks like me.

if i saw this i would just be like “Assalam alaikum sister, dope sword you got there”

I mean I think a part of the ‘scary background’ bit is the thing where the individual in question is staring directly at the viewer from a foggy pond in a dense forest. And also the literal burning halo

sounds like a normal Friday night. if a sister wants to go on a walk in the evening who am i to stop her. if she has a burning halo that’s the will of god.

I was thinking about this just yesterday. If a sister has a burning halo that’s the will of god.

We’ve done tough soldier is actually a woman. Now it’s time for creepy shredded figure is actually just someone in a jilbab.

I love "i would kill for you" ship dynamics but what about "i would stop killing" ship dynamic??

I would lay down my sword for you. I would change my nature and go against everything i've known. I would resist the easy way out of solving my problems. I would give up the adrenaline of battle to stay by your side and make tea instead. I'm not sure I know who I am without a weapon in my hand because I've had to fight for so long but for you I'm willing to try and figure this out.

It must be hard. To put down your weapon that's protected you for so long. It's allowed you to stay alive it's kept you from getting hurt--physically and mentally. Because you've never had to worry about a real relationship if you think you'll be dead at the next battle. And you feel naked without it and it feels like you're ripping off an extension of yourself. Are you even whole without it? Are you worthy of being loved if you can't prove it by risking your life? And yet they've found someone who's asking them for something much harder than dying in battle on their behalf. They've found someone who wants them to live. And that's much more terrifying.

Every few months I get the urge to get rid of all my clothes and just restart my wardrobe but I just don’t have the money to replace anything

hot girl throwing up in a dumpster outside the club

okay so decided to reverse image search and it's apparently a memorial to unborn babies lost during or immediately after pregnancy due to genetic defects (website says trisomy 18 specifically)

so as much as I love to make a joke on here, I'm going to retract my last comment and replace it with:

fuck you, that's absolutely ghoulish behavior to co-opt someone else's grief, strip it of context, and warp it's meaning to fit your personal beliefs i hope you die in a car fire

hot take but none of you are allowed to use deer/antler imagery when working with cannibalistic themes anymore. you need to be honest with yallselves on WHY you're associating deer/antler imagery with cannibalism. just because you aren't naming the name doesn't mean that the original anti-indigenous racism isn't still inherent to what you're doing.

For those who need more explanation, a well known (but often misunderstood) figure in Algonquin and Aanishinabe culture is the wend*go.

No, I'm not fully typing out the name cause we don't say that name and don't want to attract its attention. Yes, all of this is taken very seriously by us Natives.

The problem is that this very serious figure isn't taken seriously at all by non-Natives and, instead of respecting our culture and the fact we don't even say its name, its perceived as this cool monster to add to movies, video games and cool edgy OCs.

And, as with all thing Native being used and abused, misunderstood, and transformed by non-Natives, we are tired of that. It's not okay, it's not respectful.

You want a people eating monster in a story? Use anything else.

As someone who's absolutely guilty of this shite on this account...yeah you have the right to spitroast me for that. Fair is fair.

I do hope we can use creepy deer aesthetics on and about other mythological/fiction monster villains tho. As someone who had a deer almost kill their dog, I just find deer creepy and unsettling regardless.

first off: You are the single person who has responded to this post admitting some variant of having done this that actually listened to what was being said, acknowledged that you did such things while you didn't know any better, expressed an intent to never do it again, and asked for clarification on whether or not "creepy deer aesthetic" is completely off-limits with that in mind. So with that said, I want you to know that you're one of the very few folks in this post I respect sincerely.

To that end: While obviously I can't speak for Native America as a monolith, it would be my opinion that no, creepy deer aesthetics as a concept are fine. Deer can be fucked up and weird. There is a fundamental lure to the idea of a large prey animal behaving as a predator or in ways anathema to our understanding of prey. That juxtaposition and irony has a lot of narrative potential and for good reason--it fucks severely! I don't want to see it go away! It fucks hard, for Christ's sake!

But it is my opinion that the use of deer aesthetics within the specific context of cannibal themes isn't able to be used anymore. The well has been poisoned too deeply. I never said once the specific being I was referring to in nearly any of my responses, but everyone knew exactly what I meant. Even trying to purposefully distance the racism from the imagery would be useless, since the racism is baked in to the assumptions by now. Reclamation may be able to happen in the future, but first we need to accept that setting it down completely is the right play for a while. You can distance racism from creepy deer stuff by purposefully and actively distancing it from Native America and cannibalism--if it becomes a recurring imagery on its own throughout multiple types of horror, rather than being innately tied by implication to the winter hunger, that's when we could maybe begin talking about whether or not to start re-examining our relationship with it.

There’s a spirit in Choctaw folklore known as the Deer Woman. She is very important to me and I’m tired of her image tied in with Those just bc people arbitrarily decided they have antlers

"no one is super offended or offput by transmascs, they aren't viewed as sexual predators" steve dain was:

  • discouraged from being a tomboy by his counselor as a child (he was told he had "penis envy" and needed to "straighten out" or he'd become a lesbian)
  • accused of "violating God's laws," and called "thing" "creature" "it" after transitioning and returning to his job as a teacher
  • his transition literally "divided the town" he lived in
  • the superintendent fired him for "immoral conduct" and "unfitness"
  • said superintendent also publicly speculated about his genitalia, suggested that he would have to use his own bathroom because "would you want your little girl in the powder room with her?" and spread rumors that he had shown young girls his genitalia & molested them (likely, imo, what he means his "he talked about transitioning to some interested students and their parents got pissed" if there's any truth at all)
  • also said "And I’m telling you, kids here just don’t understand this hanky panky of people going around chopping off their breasts" (fearmongering about top surgery from 1975!)
  • Steve won his wrongful termination suit, but the school board then accused him of misusing sick leave because he took time off to medically transition. He tried to fight this but after four years he could not afford the legal costs.
  • He was never able to return to teaching even after winning his lawsuit because no one would hire him, so he had to completely switch careers.

erasure is not a lack of hatred or violence towards transmascs. its a culture of silence around that violence. you cannot know how people see transmascs by only looking at how they treat us when they think we're cis men.

woah you're telling me that when homophobic transphobic cis people see an adult trans man they actually see him as a predatory threat to their children? you mean that there's more to anti-transmasculinity than infantilization? you mean that they don't actually see adult trans men as basically the same as a cis man? wild

The infantilization is their idea of "early intervention" and the ones they can't "correct" will be given the same violent predator label as everyone else because they're, so to speak, "too far gone".

Oh and that fucking crab day post sends shivers down my spine btw. I say this as someone who owns multiple pieces of tumblr merch — support them if you want, or don’t, I don’t care, but we are NOT turning a tech corporation into our poor little wet meow meow who deserves all our money uwu. We are NOT pressuring normal ass people into donating to resolve a company’s millions in debt as if it’s some important charitable cause.
