A new funk chapter continues... “Replacements” feat La Roux - out now
Head Over Heels. Out June 15. Pre-order is out now.
What’s your writing process? How do you come up with all the individual parts of a song like “Sexy Socialite”? Is it all at once or does it take a long time?
Dave & P: On this album, it took a really long time. We worked on songs for six months to a year. We split up the writing process into ten different steps instead of 2-3 like we usually do. We wanted to make music that was more stimulating for us as writers. It used to be us coming up with stuff spontaneously, but this time we went over the record to try to improve it over time.
If you could perform a show with any musician, alive or not, who would you perform with??
Dave: We just did it on Fallon with DRAM, The Roots and Jesse Johnson.
If I went to one of your guys' concerts, would you let me up on stage to bust some moves with you?
Dave: Depends what you’re wearing. We’d have to have a styling meeting beforehand.
When did you guys know that you had made it and could really make a living off of making music?
Dave: Still trying to figure that one out. It’s a constant process and we still have a lot more we want to accomplish.
What are some of your favorite albums, or albums that have influenced your style?
P: ZappOne, Fleetwood Mac Rumors, Steely Dan Aja, Prince For you
hardest song to make? easiest song to make?
Dave: The hardest song to make on this album was “Must’ve Been”. We worked on it for a year but it sounds like it was put together in three days, which is what we want.
“Slumming It” was the easiest song to make, whole thing came together in two hours.
From Toro Y Moi, Ezra Koeing, and Queen Solange Knowles what do you think it is about your music that brings such uniquely talented artists in to collaborate with you?
P: They have a funky element to them that Chromeo brings out.
What is one food you would like to have for breakfast each morning?
Dave: P makes a Lebanese salad that’s tomato, feta cheese and Lebanese spices and onions, drenched in olive oil and mashed together. It’s my favorite thing in the world to have.
Hey Guys! As someone who is a fan of your music and who is a painter, who are your favourite visual artists and why? (also hola at your boy if you need any art)
Dave: Cy Twombly, Josef Albers, Ellsworth Kelly
P: Tom Wesselmann
What was y’alls most memorable night with the fans?
P: Around 2007, we played this weird college show in Burlington or somewhere in Vermont and after the show we went to the cool nerdy frat and we played beer pong with everybody.
