It’s not that I want to post this again but I have to. @Chrisdornerfanclub and I are overdue $500 in rent from July. Our phones are on the verge of being turned off. We are about to have to pay August rent and if we do not pay the rest of July rent by the last day of July we won’t have the option of splitting our August rent in two through the app our building is using.
Our last post hardly got much traction and very little money was raised. We are close to losing our housing since we already got our property manager to forgive us ONCE for a late fee, they assured us it was the ONE AND ONLY TIME they could do such a thing for us.
Please help a domestic violence survivor, and formerly undocumented Afro-Latina writer along with a Jewish trans woman stay housed in Portland.
I have a second job interview tomorrow. Both my partner and I were laid off in late May and unemployment and food stamps have been paltry at best. Phoenix is back to work as a dishwasher and is eventually hoping to either get paid more as a grill cook or find better work elsewhere. I am following several job leads and trying to build up any career leads by moonlighting in comedy, performance, design, writing, and even pet sitting. Seriously if you need any work done I am eager to do translation work and more at oliviawrites.com. On top of everything we have a small dog that means the world to us, Karl Barx, and he needs his heart worm and flea protection medicine. We can only pay for that if we have a roof over his head and food in his belly.
Please help us if you can at all, this is so urgent for us. If you read Phoenix’s writing, if you support writers of color like me, if you thought something they said was funny or helpful to you at sometime, help keep them alive. I’m less popular on this site than they are, but I too am struggling and spent a long time breaking my back in half to once become documented in this country, to get a higher level of education, to help others follow a painful path I was forced to walk alone with minimal guidance.

no, i do not believe this level of delusion about the pandemic being “over” is sustainable. i have noticed people behaving in ways they never would have before c19, like they know deep down that things are not OK and they’re scared. international travel, huge parties, etc. i don’t know. i guess i’ve been surprised and disappointed by mass human cruelty and indifference before but i really do believe there will be a tipping point. once activists can catch their fucking breath? maybe? it took 10 years of AIDS before ACT UP took to the streets. i don’t want to wait 10 years. i’ll push as hard as i fucking can but unfortunately i’m close to bed-bound by long covid at the moment. i do not want to die. c19 activism feels like a tipping point for climate change action, anticapitalist action, and abolition action. this can be a radicalizing moment. they made the US slightly more accessible for a MINUTE and then yanked it away but we *saw* it. we saw it!!!!!!!!!! efforts to squash c19 precautions go hand-in-hand with squashing anti-police protests: they know that the summer 2020 uprisings were able to happen because enough people, for a brief moment, were freer than they had ever been in this fucking evil country. when people are given resources, they give a shit. cops were the only maskless faces in the streets of minneapolis and that is not a coincidence. the old world is fucking scared and wants you to get sick and die. c19 deaths keep climbing, your yard is burning or flooding or bogged down by smoke, cops have killed more people each year since 2020. that’s the “normal” everybody is trying to convince you it’s sooooo fun to go back to. fuck off. fuck off. there will be a crack and we will kick it open

When you see laws being advanced that punish trans existence by up to 5 years in prison, or next week when you see on the news another brutal murder of a black man at the hands of police, instead of talking about how shocked you are, figure out what you can do to get involved. The time for talk is over, the time for action is now.

Willem Arondéus (22 August 1894 – 1 July 1943) was a Dutch artist and author who joined the Dutch anti-Nazi resistance movement during World War II. He participated in the bombing of the Amsterdam public records office to hinder the Nazi German effort to identify Dutch Jews and others wanted by the Gestapo. Arondéus was caught and executed soon after his arrest. Yad Vashem recognized Arondéus as Righteous Among the Nations.
Their attack, which took place on 27 March 1943, was partially successful, and they managed to destroy 800,000 identity cards, and retrieve 600 blank cards and 50,000 guilders. The building was blown up and no one was caught on the night of the attack. However, due to an unknown betrayer, Arondéus was arrested on 1 April 1943. Arondéus refused to give up the rest of his team.
Arondéus was openly gay before the war and defiantly asserted his sexuality before his execution. His final words were:
"Tell the people that homosexuals are not by definition weak."
