Probably in all the fandoms you can think of

Omg finally someone else knows about the Charmie ship, I was starting to think it was a fever dream that I dreamt up lol. People always bring up Taekook and Larry as examples of bad shipping practices but Charmies were delusional too. It’s interesting how these problematic ships have specific terminology associated with them/their industry. Larry had a ‘beard’, Taekook had an opposing ‘fanservice’ ship and Charmie had a ‘PR relationships’. Observing the ships of especially higher profile celebs/idols is so interesting to witness because it highlights the patriarch society we live in. Like you mentioned, these ships really display how women consciously/subconsciously hate on other women they perceive to be threats to their ship or fantasy. The enemy of these ships are usually women (Harry+Louis+Timothee+Armie’s girlfriends/wives) or men that they feminize (Jimin). Interesting topic.

You made an interesting observation at the end regarding Jimin. The taekook narrative is different in comparison to other big slash ships because the so called "enemy" has a different gender. For larry or charmie, the woman is the intruder so hating her it's like an automatic response. She's there to disrupt the fantasy and also expose the fantasy at the same time.

Because the result is that the shippers are more interested in actively fetishizing a gay relationship and gay men. They are fascinated with it, although at the same time they apply heteronormative definitions to it. One is the woman with any particular gender stereotypes, the other one is the man, with its own set of gender stereotypes. This is then transposed into the way they write fanfiction, how they draw the couple. They have the obsession with coming out, of praying for their eternal love. Once you see such vocabulary, it makes it all more clear. And then something happens, a woman comes into play and that's a problem. They already have the woman, the feminized version of one of the men in the ship, which is acceptable because it's a product of their imagination and a self insert at the same time.

Now, taekookers are having to deal with a bigger problem. Their biggest threat in their view is in this case a man. That disrupts the fantasy even more. So in order to make it all work, they have to change how they view that man. They need to reduce him, to strip him of his masculinity because his masculinity puts him as equal as those other two men. And him being an equal makes it a threat. Because in the case of taekook where the shippers believe that Tae and JK are in love with each other and that makes them automatically attracted to the same gender, hence gay (I'm just telling how their fantasy works), it means that there is the possibility of Jungkook (never Tae) to be attracted to Jimin. Because he is a man. That's why ships involving Tae/JK and a woman do not pose a "real" threat in the eyes of the shippers. They laugh at it because they truly believe JK and Tae are together. But by believing that, they are also aware, deep down, that Jungkook as a presumably gay man, could also be attracted to another man - Jimin.

So because this is such an unacceptable scenario, they have to femininize Jimin. He cannot be seen at the same level of a gay man as JK and Tae. Hating Jimin in that position would reveal that they can be homophobic and how they mostly fetishize a gay relationship. In turn, Jimin is portrayed as a woman. A woman that can be hated, the type that through the patriarchal conditioning, is seen as a threat to other women. For example, the femme fatale, the seductress, the slut, the whore. All words used by taekookers. Sometimes they latch onto made up rumors in which they return Jimin his masculinity if it involves some woman, or him supposedly becoming a father. But that doesn't happen often. Jimin is also seen as a man who could be gay only when once again, they find another man to ship him with. Be it Yoongi, or his friends in his private life. In both these scenarios, Jimin can be a man and attracted to other men. But the minute he is next to Jungkook, he cannot be that anymore. He is no longer potentially a man with whom Jungkook may cheat, but a home wrecker, which is usually a term used for women. Jimin's feminine qualities which show up in his behavior in a positive sense (he is more nurturing, he is in tune with his emotions, etc) are completely dismissed. He is patriarchaly feminized.

“Jimins dad is his Jimin”

I’ve seen a lot of posts wherein if a person does the bare minimum for Jimin y’all shout out, “xyz is Jimins jimin”. Nah mate, no body will ever quite do enough for him as he has and continues to do for everyone else and those are just the facts.

The ONLY, O N L Y, person who this can be said about is his father; Jimins father who in a highly conservative society like Korea, let his Male kid learn ballet and get a whole degree in Morden dancing, something even non conservative societies would frown upon. Jimins father who wanted him to be a lawyer but happily accepted his sons interests and drove him to his auditions instead. Jimins father who no matter which country Jimin is in, never fails to send his kid a bouquet on his birthday till date. Jimins father who calls Jimin after concerts and asks him if he has eaten enough and shouts out “I love you” and “fighting” before ending the call. Jimins father who in a society like Korea is open minded enough to have Jimin try make up on his dad. Jimins father who used to take Jimin for hiking on weekends after working his job all week just cause Minnie wanted to see the mountains. Jimins dad who proudly goes to Jimins old school to donate money for the Morden dance department. Jimins father who as said by Jimins neighbors is “a man of value and irrevocable kindness.”

Jimins father who raised Jimin to be a man of values. A loving, caring sweetheart who has never done anyone any wrong. A boy who at the heights of success bows ever so politely to rookie groups. A boy who literally had the shortest training period in kpop and by his sheer dedication and hard work became the standard for other idols. A boy who has never said shit about anyone or gotten in any scandals from his own doing, the ONE time the media framed him it was cause of a gifted T-shirt lmao. Papa parks Son is literally the #1 idol for a year now and has no real scandals whatsoever tainting his image; a drama free sophisticated legend who focused on his work while paying dust to everything else. A boy who gets hated on daily for no fucking reasons but has never been anything but respectful and kind. Jimin who donates a huge amount of money every year to his hometown. Jimin who literally questioned the very existence of masculinity; in his words “what the heck is men”. This is who papa Park raised and God knows he did a fabulous job. They say kids are the reflection of their parents, well damn, papa Park must be a wholeass angel then to have raised Park Jimin.

So, in conclusion, Jimins father is Jimins Jimin, for anyone else to even come close is a long ways to go. Stan Papa Park, a whole legend.💞

While I like Steven Universe and all of it's misgivings (even though I feel some parts of it could be written a bit more realistically, like Kevin and Steven's weird animosity angle), I always felt that the Movie adding Spinel was kind of a lazy and thoughtless decision just to make Pink Diamond more cruddy than she really is. I get that as part of the regime that considered castes wouldn't treat their lower halves with such kindess as they would the parts they belonged to, but it just seemed rather out of character for Pink to discard Spinel and make her stay in her garden for so damn long, if we were to assume Pink actually did shatter her Pearl accidentally. If there was more instances of Pink Diamond being that volatile in the show and not a lot of heresay (The Crystal Gems talking about Pink like she's an spoilt brat, for example), I'd probably would buy it more. As it stands, there's too little information thanks to the nature of the show, and it really just feels like after the revelation of Pink and Rose Quartz being one and the same, they forgot to give more humanizing qualities to Rose, especially sinc she's such a trigger for Steven in Future.

Spinel, to me, only exists to make Pink Diamond more cruel than she actually is, and I don't actually like Spinel because of that.

I agree with you in part. I don't think Spinel exists only to make Pink look more cruel, but I think the show started villainizing her a little too much in general, culminating in Future.

The idea is sound on paper. Present a character as a paragon of unreachable goodness, to the point that Steven feels like everyone expects him to measure up to his dead mom, and then start showing the cracks in her shining armor: she looked down on the same humans she swore to protect, she bubbled Bismuth, she shattered Pink Diamond and is the reason Homeworld hates everything to do with Earth, she was Pink Diamond and lied to all of the CGs and forced Pearl to keep her secret. We see her at her best, and slowly we go backwards to see at her worst. The idea is that we're supposed to put together the events in reverse order and appreciate her character development... but in practice, it means that Steven just starts to resent Rose and have an attitude of "yes mom sucks, must be a day ending in Y"

Future is what irked me the most. The last time Rose is plot relevant, we discover that she literally traumatized Pink Pearl through a temper tantrum. The last time we see Rose, it's her painting stuffed inside Lion's mane, out of sight and out of mind. The last time we hear her name, Steven is angrily comparing Greg to her. Everyone has moved on from her, but not in a healthy way, but in an almost... cancelled way? The narrative put too much focus on her bad actions, and seemingly forgot that Pink did a massive work on herself to do the closest thing a Gem can to grow up.

Spinel is just one of those examples. As an antagonist, she works, she's out of her mind with emotional pain, Pink and not Rose hurt her (so Steven can't just tell her the truth, like she did with Jasper and the Diamonds), and her inner conflict is abandonment issues, which how in the hell is Steven supposed to solve? He doesn't, the Diamonds do. But... yeah. Since Rose isn't around to defend herself, a recurring theme in SU, we never learn why she never came back for Spinel. Maybe because the portals were broken! But the narrative just leaves us with "Pink was a jerk and abandoned her friend because she was annoying" (or because she was meant to replace Pink Pearl in a shallow, insulting way, but still).

This is a big flaw of trying to paint the complexities of a dead character. We have to rely on hearsay, different opinions, and so does the titular character. Steven decided that Rose was a liar, and that's where the show stopped. It sucks, because Rose is my favorite character in the show and back in the day I swear that she was more hated than the Diamonds :<

What are children, but a weakness? A folly? A futility? Through them, you imagine you cheat the great darkness of its victory. You will persist forever, in some form or another. As if they will keep you from the dust. But for them you surrender what you should not. You may know what is the right thing to be done, but.. love stays the hand. Love is a downfall.

Penguin escapes killer whales by jumping onto a boat.

Antarctic penguins (and most other Antarctic animals for that matter) are very interesting because they lack a natural fear of humans since, of course, humans are not a natural occurrence on the continent. It is one of the few places on earth where it is completely normal for fully wild animals to be comfortable around you. In fact, most react as though humans are just especially large penguins as those are the only flightless biped native to the area.

As far as this gentoo penguin is concerned, it was saved by a float of large yellow penguins also hiding from orcas.

I don't think people remember the first Iron Man Movie at all.

Because everyone always focuses on the "War Profiterol Stops Selling Weapons" angle and completely forget the Pro American Military Interventionism Message in it.

Tony Stark specifically becomes Iron Man because he doesn't believe the US Military is doing ENOUGH in the Middle East. He specifically flies there to destroy some evil brown bad guys with a tank attacking civilians because he believes the American Military is not there to stop it. This is a Pro Military Occupation movie guys, it doesn't take a genius to understand it.

Hell, he specifically stops building weapons because he just discovered some evil brown people might also end up buying them, not because "bombs kill people," he knows bomb kill people he just thought only the US Military was using it to kill people.

Which is never taken into question. The US Military is not on trial in this movie, It's the evil brown people who use it on civilians instead, and they do it because they are faceless, nameless evil brown people.

The bombed village the reporter who ends up sleeping with him and is slut shamed for it mentions? Who do you think ultimately committed the war crime in universe? But why, the evil brown terrorists, the ones who got their weapons from his own company after all, there is no mention, in any part of the movie, of the US Military committing war crimes on anything with his weapons, the villains are ALWAYS evil brown people who got his weapons due to another, more self serving war profiteer, and only because of that.

Like, the ONLY thing that can be said in favour of this is that the greater scope villain is, like... Another rich white war profiteer, and even that still fucks over the supposedly "anti war" message when Tony specifically still only wanted to sell weapons to the US Military pre movie, and stops producing weapons the second he realizes evil brown people might get his shit too, and Stane wanted to sell it to Evil Brown Terrorists too.

People don't rember how boot licking this movie was and it shows.
