Black Trans Activist: Felon to Fitness Trainer

It’s been a challenging and difficult year. After my arrest in March, I was unable to find work because of my background. I was working a night job from 11pm - 8am doing stocking at a Walmart in Woodstock and driving for Uber and Lyft during the day. The day after the arrest, I lost my job at Walmart and few days later Uber and Lyft sent me an email, stating that I could not work for them due to my criminal background. The stress and lack of healthcare caused my health to deteriorate and my Multiple Sclerosis (MS) began to worsen. Without any support for the system, I had to learn how to heal my body without assistance from doctors or meds. I focused my energy on changing my eating and training my body. My personal journey to become healthier, led me to personal training. I began studying and enrolled in a course to become certified in nutrition coaching and personal training. A course that was provided for free by the incredible folks at the Center of Refuge. I completed the course at graudated at the top of my class. Now I’m the head trainer at Planet Fitness and certified personal trainer.

Black Trans Activist Must Pay $1,000 for Possession of THC (Cannabis-derived) Oil.

UPDATE ON CASE: I went in front of the judge for my sentencing and he agreed to the plea deal laid out by the D.A. I have to complete a 12 step program, twice a week before January and pass a drug evaluation test. In addition to $1,000 fine, 200 hours community service, and a complete waiver of my 4th amendment rights (cops have the ability to search my car, person, and home w/o probable cause). I am mandated to serve 7 years on probation with a 3 year good behavior incentive. As of now, I cannot vote, receive financial aid, government assistance, or own a firearm.

Currently looking for a decent 12 step program/ NA group near the West Wnd area. If anyone has any leads, comment or DM me. Also, if anyone know where I can get assistance with the $1,000 fine please contact me. 🙏🏾✨

Our comrade, activist, and friend Dean is in need your immediate support. Dean is currently facing a mandatory minimum of 1 - 10 years in prison. On March 22, Dean was stopped by two white officers for a broken tail light. Dean was instructed to exit the vehicle. The officer’s proceeded to search the car and Dean was arrested immediately. Upon arrival at the jail, Dean was placed into solitary confinement and held there until his release. Dean is being charged with felony possession of a controlled one substance (cannabis-derived-thc oil) w/intent to distribute. Dean returns to court for trial Sept 19th.

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE?

Over 17 states have legalized (or decriminalized the use and/or sell of marijuana and marijuana-derived thc oil, including our nation’s capital.

WHILE WHITE PEOPLE PROFIT FROM THE LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA, BLACK & BROWN FOLKS CONTINUE TO BE UNFAIRLY TARGETED & INCARCERATED FOR MARIJUANA-RELATED ARRESTS. ACCORDING TO A REPORT BY THE AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNITION, BLACK AND WHITE PEOPLE USE MARIJUANA AT ABOUT THE SAME RATES, BUT BLACK PEOPLE ARE BETWEEN 3-10 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE ARRESTED."

We are reaching out in urgent and earnest care and concern to the trusted and valued family, friends and community of Dean Steed. Our comrade, activist, and friend Dean is in need your immediate support.

Dean is currently facing a mandatory minimum of 1 - 10 years in prison. On March 22, Dean was stopped by two white officers for a broken tail light. Dean was instructed to exit the vehicle. Dean is currently being charged with a felony for Possession of THC Oil, and two misdemeanors (Possession of Marijuana Less 1 oz and Possession and Use of Drug Paraphernalia). Dean returns to court on May 17 and he is in desperate need of legal representation.

Dean is not only fighting for his freedom, he is fighting for his health. Dean is a Trans man, with worsening Multiple-sclerosis. If imprisoned, accessing regular testosterone and other medicine-related to his MS, could become very difficult, if not impossible.That is why we are asking for immediate financial support with the exorbitant legal fees Dean will have to pay in order to remain safe, with his family and community.
