I cannot be the only one who finds it funny that the timeline of the Riordanverse was destroyed for a lil nas x joke

This has always been a thing in the Riordanverse, which is part of why I find it so baffling that people have been complaining about the pop culture references. Like in The Dark Prophecy, Apollo wonders whether this one guy is participating in a Pokemon Go gym battle. If you're assuming that The Lightning Thief was set in 2005, when the book released, then it would be only around 2010 in The Dark Prophecy, 6 years before Pokemon Go was released.

The Riordanverse books are set "now", whenever "now" happens to be.

Like they are forgetting the time hunger games was refered in the books

Why are they so mad????

Just realize this is a children's book if you don't vibe with that the door is there

Vegas has been gone for a week. Work trip to the states (not Las Vegas, much to Macau's disappointment, who had already prepared several puns), something something important family business. Pete has his own tasks back in Thailand, so he had to stay behind. And worries. A lot. He should be there, protecting Vegas, helping him do whatever it was he was doing (probably a lot of torturing, and Pete wasn’t there to watch!!), just...being by his side. It helps a bit that Vegas always calls and texts, even though the time difference is bothersome. But messages from boyfriend >>> sleep, and so Pete immediately jolts awake when his phone vibrates at 2am. It's a text message, and Pete reads it almost greedily. A photo soon follows.

"Hey babe. Look, they’ve got warning signs here for you <3"

When we do find each other again, no one will be able to tear us apart. We’ll be joined so tightly. Every atom of me and every atom of you. When they use our atoms to make new lives, they’ll have to take two. One for you… and one for me. We’ll be in the flowers and in the sunbeams. We’ll be joined so tight.

— Lyra Silvertongue, to Will Perry

People joke about Phillip Pullman's answer to every HDM lore question being a shrug but it'd be weirder if he had thought about some of it. Can you imagine how uncomfortable it would be if you asked him how baby dæmons were made and he talked for a hour about it

That ol’ chart of mine makes the rounds online periodically and it drives me crazy because it’s frankly not very good. So, I finally got around to remaking it.

I doubt this will get anywhere near as popular, but I wanted to make it.

Good reference for animation, comics, and for visualizing phonetics!

“AI art isn’t real art” boring, pedantic, relies on defining the undefinable and an ever changing goalpost of what Real Art is.

“AI art is fueled by massive art theft” correct, concrete demonstration of the harm it’s doing to actual human beings and not just the nebulous concept of Art Itself.

There’s a protest going on against AI art over on artstation, so I feel like now is the time for me to make a statement on this issue!

I wholeheartedly support the ongoing protest against AI art. Why? Because my artwork is included in the datasets used to train these image generators without my consent. I get zero compensation for the use of my art, even though these image generators cost money to use, and are a commercial product.

Musicians are not being treated the same way. Stability has a music generator that only uses royalty free music in their dataset. Their words: “Because diffusion models are prone to memorization and overfitting, releasing a model trained on copyrighted data could potentially result in legal issues.” Why is the work of visual artists being treated differently?

Many have compared image generators to human artists seeking out inspiration. Those two are not the same. My art is literally being fed into these generators through the datasets, and spat back out of a program that has no inherent sense of what is respectful to artists. As long as my art is literally integrated into the system used to create the images, it is commercial use of my art without my consent.

Until there is an ethically sourced database that compensates artists for the use of their images, I am against AI art. I also think platforms should do everything they can to prevent scraping of their content for these databases.

Artists, speak out against this predatory practice! Our art should not be exploited without our consent, and we deserve to be compensated when our art is exploited for commercial use.

I wanted to give screenshot redraws a try since they look so cool when other people make them and I also figured they would be good practice on colour and lighting. Hilariously, I went straight for extreme photo realism that somehow got progressively more intense for each drawing I made. So yeah. Success?

And yes, I assure you — they’re drawings.
