In a sea, a lake, a river, and whatever other body of water he could find himself in, Tommy excelled. He was good enough to teach people, experience and Wilbur said as much.

So, one of the big kingdoms name is Valerian Kingdom (the kingdom of Valeria), which I had named after the valerian herb (Valeriana officinalis) where the flower would also be part of the emblem and history of why this name was given etc... But, I saw that in Game of Thrones by George R. R Martin has apparently an empire named Valyria which I didn't know since I've never read the books nor seen the series. I'm guessing it's too close to Martin's work and I'll have to change it? Thank you for your time.

Names, words, and titles can't be copyrighted. They can fall under trademark protection, and Valyria probably does, but "Valeria" is not "Valyria." It's not the same word, and being "close" to a trademarked word isn't a problem.

Hey, anon, there is actually a book series and 2017 movie (a flop, but still) called Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. In it, Valerian is the main character.

However, since "valerian" is a real word and real people have been named that, I don't see any harm in using it however you want.
