@cheeseburger-and-vine

Figured it was time to update this bit here. He/Him. So this started out as just the geeky stuff I was into, but now it's also full of politics (on your left), art, and just the random grab-bag that is the internet. Nearly entirely SFW.

“…the sight of Elon Musk charging towards Wikipedia with his trademark guile and delicacy was so predictable that it was almost relaxing. He saw a collective resource that people prized and he wanted to hurt it.”

Thoth knows Wikipedia’s not perfect, but I’d sooner have it handy than not have it.

Hey, you know how we spent 7.99 at Tumblr for useless blue checkmarks mainly to spite Musk? Maybe we should go donate the same amount to Wikipedia out of spite. And also because Wikipedia is far more useful than the accurately-named useless blue checks.

I mean, same spite, but actually getting something in return? Sounds like a deal to me...

hey. important post. i found this elsewhere but it needs all the visibility that it can get.

Tom Giberti is also the President of The Store Next Door which is a non-profit that works with the Lewiston School District to clothes and feed homeless kids in Lewiston so they can attend school. This is the type of person that we need 8 billion of.

At the bottom of this news article from March 2023 is a link for how you can donate to The Store Next Door.

Even if you don't have anything to give, consider reblogging this post. This is an actual, real life hero and he deserves to be known for what he did and has done to support the people in his community who need it the most.

the thing is israel basically belongs to the united states. it is funded by our government. they test weapons for us. when the us defends israel it is not defending a sibling nation where there might be room for them to break away or disagree, it is defending its own military interests. i think this is important for understanding why the states are acting this way and to make it clear this is something US citizens are directly involved in, as much as any other cruel, imperialistic war we are told to support, only to be apologized for as wrong decades later. you can apologize for the deaths once you have already benefitted from the deaths. that is how these things go but it is always essential to fight that pattern because we already know how it ends if we were to let it play out. none of this is new, for all the claims of complexity, it is the same old playbook and we must recognize it for what it is and fight it as we would any other demand for crimes against humanity in the name of "peace". learn from the past, learn from each other, learn from those who have been fighting this struggle longer than we have been alive. mass opposition to US imperialism, to settler colonialism, to """justified""" genocide is the only way.

As always, the Irish speak nothing but facts.

How many more innocent civilians have to be killed by Israel before you condemn that for it?

That is a genocide.

That this is a crime on all accounts.

And deserves to be punished to the full extent off the law.

The South African government has expressed concerns that Israel’s continued occupation of “significant portions of the West Bank” and the development of new settlements there “are glaring examples of violations of international law” as the longrunning Israel-Palestine conflict goes on.

Share. Reblog. Protest. Boycott.

A lot of people forget that boycott and sanctions helped rid South Africa of apartheid.

Boycott, Sanctions, and Armed Resistance.

Idk why but as a kid I used to get hysterically upset everytime I would imagine a gif of a rotating cow because I could never stop the cow from rotating no matter how hard I tried and I would be crying and no one knew why

This is probably an unnecessary addition, but OCD is missed in cases like these because it's deeply misunderstood by most people.

It's talked about like being obsessively neat or repeating pointless tasks is the main part of it, when really those are just potential symptoms.

The main thing behind OCD is not being about to turn off a thought. There's a thing where most people can just stop thinking about something. If it's over, it's not relevant, it doesn't matter anymore, people can turn their attention away. For OCD, that mechanism can get stuck. And some thought that was supposed to just temporarily pass through your head just stays there. An image of an object rotating. An anxiety about something bad happening. A wish that you made on a dandelion. These are all things that have at some point gotten stuck in my head, sometimes for years at a time.

The compulsions, the rituals, are the person trying to address the thought so it can go away. After all, if you're worried about the door not being locked you can check the lock. But for someone with OCD, that doesn't make the stuck thought go away. So they check it again. And again. And they made a ritual, maybe if I check it exactly five times, I'll know that it's locked and I can let this worry go.

It helps a little. It feels like you're doing something. But it doesn't solve the problem. Actual therapy for OCD involves not doing the compulsion. Instead, you ignore the thought, move around it, try not to give it space in your life. Your mind won't let the thought go normally, so instead you fill yourself with other thoughts. Other parts of your life.

It's not easy at first. Your mind fights you on it. But as you get practice, it gets easier. You learn tricks around your own mind, ways to look at the thought and go, hm. I guess I'll go distract myself now. It does get better. I promise

if you are distressed about not receiving a response from someone you'd like to be actively talking to, you have to take a moment. step back from the conversation, put yourself in their shoes. perhaps they're busy with something right now. you have to consider the possibility that maybe they hanging upside down by their ankle. everybody has their own schedule, and sometimes people spend time away from their phone or computer because they are currently suspended from a tree branch by a rope tied around their ankle that they unnoticingly stepped in because it was concealed by a pile of leafs. it's not that they don't want to respond; imagine that they can see their phone screen on the ground below but it's a good few inches out of reach and even if they bounce and flail on the branch their fingertips just can't touch it. sometimes life gets in the way

some of the top comments on a hank green reel about climate change.

this attitude is honestly terrifying and also infuriating to me. Yes, billionaires are the main polluters of this planet, far disproportionate to their number.

but the fact that to so many (us-american) leftists, "tax the rich" and "expropriate billionaires" has turned into people living in some of the richest countries on the planet convincing themselves that their consumption and living habits bear no responsibility in climate change makes me feel sick

believing in that to the point of saying CARS are not harmful for the planet? have these people lost their fucking minds? and of course, its only ever other countries which are to blame....

its exactly these takes that you encounter in anti-vegan rethoric as well. as soon as anyone demands a change of these people, they bend over backwards and use leftist internet lingo to say that asking them to change is akin to being a facist or whatever

like exactly…..the responsibility rests on the West and I need people to understand that, ESPECIALLY Americans. Especially when the global south and small island nations are disproportionately bearing the brunt of the effects of climate change. This comment isn’t accomplishing what you think it is and belies responsibility but actually is so, so ignorant and counterproductive to change. change starts small and starts with you.

Sorry, imperial core leftists, but you will actually have to give up over-consuming commodities that were created using other countries extractive labor in order to save the global environment. You can't be an ally to the global poor while also taking from them nonstop. link 1: The US and Europe are responsible for the majority of global ecological damage caused by the overuse of natural resources
