the context here is that we were both autistic kids in the same middle school (circa 2012) who had the same reaction to emotional issues- to fucking fight people. since we got in trouble a lot for this we decided that instead of being angry at other people we would be mature and wait until after school before fighting each other. usually this involved name calling and being jackasses but often would result in wrestling/hitting if one of us was pissed enough. then we would walk home and chat about our day. it was very emotionally fulfilling and probably helped us out more then special ed ever did.

we kinda stopped doing this in highschool but remained friends, and our moms are friends also. they know we used to fight almost daily and think it’s real mature + kind of cute because at the time we were emotional WRECKS who were not afraid to lash out at others, so waiting until after school was a “huge improvement”. this meeting was just wrestling for old times sake. Also can I just say. Some people really need to get it through their dumb thick skulls that racial minorities who immigrated to mostly white countries are going to have perspectives and opinions on things that the folks in their countries of origin might not. Like the morons on my yellowface post who were like "um well Japanese people in Japan don't care, it's always the Japanese americans who say shit about it" like yeah? Obviously? Asian folks living in a country where they're the racial majority are far less likely to be subjected to the same kind of racism/propaganda/caricatures etc. that Asian people in mostly white countries are. Like I cannot for the life of me think of any valid justification for thinking "well it's the IMMIGRANTS who have a problem with it so clearly it isn't an actual issue" how about you shut up

I remember reading books about the holocaust when I was a child, and they horrified me so much that the concept of white supremacy (what I grasped of it as a third grader) really scared me. Censoring books about "difficult" topics does not protect children; it fails them. Yesterday, I was driving to the grocery store, and there was a big group of nazis on the side of the busy road. They had banners with antisemitic mantras and a megaphone (god only knows what bullshit they were spewing). They had a big dog with them to keep people away, and there were police there. Protecting them. (Which is a whole different conversation) The holocaust is not ancient history. In the grand scheme of things, it is very recent. Recent enough that nazi ideology is present even in schools today. Children are not exempt from antisemitic influence, and at a time when they're still forming their beliefs about the world, it is so so important that they learn about the "difficult" parts of history. Children who don't learn about "difficult" topics, who don't grasp the severity or harm of white supremacist ideology will easily fall down the racism pipeline. It is absolutely imperative to teach children the full story of history, without glossing over the gruesome parts that make white people look bad.

This is why “queer” is so important for questioning people who know they’re not cishet but haven’t figured out every last micro-label yet, or people whose labels are changing over time, or for someone who doesn’t feel comfortable sharing every last detail of their journey, or, or, or.

this is Cosmopolis by Don DeLillo. it’s a really weird novel about a man going to get a haircut that’s also a pretty explicit criticism of the 1%.

the main character is a multimillionaire who’s so fixated on money and materialism that he’s basically forgotten how to be a normal human being and connect with people. that conversation above is him talking to his new wife. at one point, he even says something like, “this is good. we are having a conversation. this is what people do.”

Archive.org is facing a lawsuit

tldr: the Internet Archive/WayBack Machine is super important in term of archived content, billions of stuff are on there, and with the current event happening in the world like stated above,without this tool, it will be hard to properly document what took place. It will be easy for certain people to rewrite history. Dont let them.
